Quest release with Patch 1.60

Yrling, the armor merchant in Aegirhamn, will ask you to collect some items for him: A Chilly Skelett Bone (from Chilly Skeletts in the area immediately surrounding the town of Bjarken in Gripklosa Mountains), Skalklan Blood (which he claims are from Skalklan Shellsplitters, but mine dropped from a Skalklan Shellcrafter - there are several Skalklan camps with both mobs in the area straight out from Aegirhamn in Munin Sound), and Morvalt Landflyke Hair (from Morvalt Landflykes, also in the area around Bjarken).

Yrling wants you to take the note he gave you, and the 3 items, to Cadbg in Hagall. Cadbg will take the note and the first item, the Chilly Skelett bone, but then asks for the Morvalt Hair, not the Skalklan blood - he will not take the hair. If you give him the blood, he will step you to 'return the potion to Yrling in Aegirhamn' and will not accept the hair, as well as not giving you the potion. At this point I had to wait for a CSR to create the item, a 'Translucent Potion' - hopefully it will be fixed in one of these server downages.

Once you return to Yrling with the potion, he does a little dance, then turns around and notices his swords are missing. He thinks Styer, also in Aegirhamn, stole them, and asks you to speak with him. Styer is innocent, and when you return to Yrling with that information, a Shale Golem Emissary will spawn and you will have to speak with it. Getting the full text from the Shale Golem might be difficult, as it seems in this first spawn, an NPC in town attacks it with a spell, then all the other NPCs gang up on it and kill it.

However, it does tell you what you need to do next: Find Ghirni, a morvalt renegade, 'off the road, toward the water where the shale golems spawn.' This information isn't technically correct, the 'shale golems' are actually 'coral things' although they do have the same graphic as shale golems. Ghirni is in the morvalt camp right next to them. Loc 46k, 37k. You can get there by running straight out of Aegirhamn until you hit the water, then following the coast to your left (avoiding the aggro mobs, of course).

When you kill Ghirni, he will drop a head and a Pristine Obsidian Sword. Return to Aegirhamn, the Shale Golem Emissary will be respawned. Give him the head, and you will get a Ring of Shale. Give Yrling the sword, and he will offer you a choice of weapons. I chose Greatsword, but received a 1handed Bastard Sword.

Quest items may be class specific. I received 520k xp and 2 gold from the Emissary, and 1,040k and 2 more gold from Yrling.

Overall, it will be a great quest once the bugs are worked out.

I did this quest at lv 29 on my runnie went to the camp loc 28k 24k and all I could find were shell crafters well on my warrior he killed a crafter and got the item but on my runnie she didnt, so I kept killing crafters till about 20 or so min. a splitter spawned killed him was told to go to bjarken to kill a landflake so while I waited I got some xp and killed a few water cats for kill task. pretty easy and now since we have the porter guy makes time go by fast
[live life to your fullest and things will go your way ]
stupid busywork quest

I must disaggree with submitter and say that this is one of the most worthless, aggravating quests I have encountered in DAOC. Got the quest at 25, finished it at 27 and got less xp than one decent kill. The Obsian Axe is laughable for 2 hours of running to and fro. By the way, did anyone mention this quest has 16 freakin steps?

1. Chilly skellet bone - I ran E from Bjarken for ~20-30 secs and found them roaming around easily. They are right next to the morvalts you have to kill for step #3. /loc 21, 51.

2. Skalklan Shellsplitter Blood - got ticket to knarr and jumped north of the town near the camps that are shown on the map in Munin. Ran to the camp to the east, /loc 28, 24. There was one splitter surrounded by tons of crafters, so you'll have to pick him out.

3. Morvalt Landflyke Hair - Same area as #1...east of Bjarken maybe 20 secs. /loc 21, 51.

13. Ghirni - /loc 46, 37 in Munin Sound, just as the submitter said except the info in the journal is now correct.

This quest perfectly embodies the major downfall of a large part of DAOC quests... the runaround. There is absolutely no reason why I could not have gotten the hair and bone while I was in Bjarken. I actually went back to the quest giver 3 times during this quest, only to have new, implausible steps added. If it had been bugged as it was above I would have seriously pondered giving Mythic the finger and buying EQ2 or something.

I understand that without long steps quests would be far too easy. Make the items harder to find, like scrolls, or at least have us go to different areas. Or better yet, come up with quests that are more than 'go here, go there, oh gosh go back here'. I mean, what's challenging or fun about riding a horse from one side of SI to the next and then back again, and then back AGAIN, then BACK AGAIN? It would have been much better had I been killing or something other than riding a horse 85% of the time.

I do more quests than anyone else I have known and am my guilds go-to guy for help with them. I love alot of the quests, but the ones that send you back and forth to the same exact spots drive me nuts, insult my intelligence and take me out of the game experience by being so stupid.

Mythic, put more imagination into these, please.

I believe he is saying head straight out the Munin Sound side towards Knarr village but stay straight till you hit the water. The rest of the info he has posted. Unfortunately I never got the note so I am stuck with the three items with my ticket number/appeal, still waiting for a resolution.

Completed this quest today solo as a 26/27 Skald. The bugs appear to have been fixed as I completed all the steps with no problems whatsoever.

For my reward, I chose a Two Handed Hammer and recieved an Obsidian Great Spiked Hammer.

9.6 dps
5.1 spd
100/100/100/15
Hammer: 2
Constitution: 4
Body: 8%

I've submitted a SS of the hammer and its delve.

Also on the topic of rewards, I was offered my choice of sword, hammer, axe, great sword, two handed hammer or spear. A H2H weapon was not offered.

Bugs with this quest
# Oct 03 2003 at 1:52 AM Rating: Decent
I am in the middle of this quest and on my second appeal so far. I never recieved a note in the beginning which was needed for step 4 (pretty sure it was step 4). That was a 5 hour appeal. Now I'm stuck on step 8. I handed in the potion but it is not registering. He still keeps asking for it.

/appeal #2.

FYI:
(7/4/2003)
The Cadbg guy now asks for Bone, Blood, Hair, in that order. I didn't dare try to give him the wrong item to try if the step was working, but at least the order is changed. so... maybe?
Shellplitters not there
# Jun 09 2003 at 1:37 AM Rating: Default
Yrling tells you to get three items. One is Skalklan Shellplitter blood. Unfortunately, shellspletters are not in the camps, or even in Munin sound. I believe Mythic killed them. Instead, I had to kill to kill a shellcrafter. Becareful though... otherwise the whole camp will come running to it's aid. My first time I had 2 come up to the aid of the one I pulled.
How about a direction?
# May 19 2003 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
Do any of you know how to use loc? I have no idea where Mularn Sound or whatver is and there is no zone with that name outside Aegirhamn. Wasted a LOT of time running around looking for these supposed camps that are right outside Aegerhamn... that covers a hella lot of ground and all the camps I've seen nearby have nothing but grays in them. Seems like none of the SI quests have any detail at all on this site. If you can't or won't use loc then at least give instructions such as east or west of Aegerhemn, not "strait out from". There's 360 degrees of "strait out from" - and why don't the quest instructions in the journal conatain information like that anyway? All the old quests do. These new quests seem to be more about sending people on bum runs than entertainment and you guys aren't improving the situation any.

OMG you gotta be kidding me. Are you for real? First, if you dont know where Munin Sound is a /loc wont help you because it is zone specific. Second, you are chewing people out for trying to help you, when these people went out and did the quest on thier own. Then they volunteered this info for people like you who just want everything handed to them - wow! Oy, sorry all for being negative but I cant tolerate lazy, ungrateful people.

I think you need some sunshine! ppsst it's Munin Sound and it is the zone next to Aegirhamn, there's only two ways out of Aegirhamn, you obviously went the wrong way if you didn't find Munin Sound.

...is what I received for my warrior from Yrling (along with the ring from the emissary). Double Bladed Obsidian Axe: DPS 9.5, speed 4.2, axe 2, con 4, body 8%, black in color. The choices were axe, sword, hammer, great sword, great hammer. I had no problems with getting the potion from Cadbg.
