DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest. Talk to your trainer, in Tir na Nog. When you speak with your trainer she asks if you know about the dead oak by the tree northwest of Tir Na mBeo. If you accept the quest she tells you to go there and talk to the mad sprite. She tells you to find information on what a Mad Sprite is saying about the Veil. The Mad Sprite is just south of TNN's east gate to 14k,9k (also seen at loc=13k,9k). When you talk to him he says something bad will happen to the Veil. You go through a dialog with him then he says 'lets go for a swim' and goes into the pond. I lost him at this point but found him again by the tree. Talking to him again he says a few things then attacks you. He then gives you a letter to give to Fagan who is in Mag Mell (who is found in the largest building in the town). Fagan reads the letter and makes reference to the same person involved in the stalker quests and says hopefully this information in the letter will never happen, and gives you a small amount of silver and about a bubble of exp (at level 7). Blathnaid says, "I have not trained you long, but already you are my favored student. You are also one of my best. Are you familiar with the [dead oak among the trees] that circle the pond deep in the forest behind Tir na mBeo?" Blathnaid says, "It has been the center of songs for years. It is dead, but still grows. Lately, a creature known as Mad Sprite has appeared around the tree. He circles it non-stop from mid-night to mid-day reciting [nonsensical phrases]." Blathnaid says, "The elders of our class, and the others that follow our Path believe the Map Sprite is an oracle of sorts. An insane one, perhaps, but his message must be discovered. I completed this quest yesterday, and the description is all wrong here, I found the spirte at the pond, circling a tree and talked to him.... didn't have to do anything like killing him, maybe he reacts differently depending on your class. As a nightshade, all I did was hail him, repeat a few of the [words] with a ? at the end, and he gave me the letter, no hassle, no killing. I can't remember the exact text but he ends with something about the veil is coming.

Strange, I got to the mad sprite, it rambled on and on, gave me the letter, and left me alone on the first try. I had expected to fight him but I guess he got tired of everyone else killing him today...

OK, talked to the mad sprite, he did the swim with me thing, I tried talking to him again, nada, he also told me to talk to someone, I talked to them, my quest log still says the same thing "Talk to Mad Sprite".. I have tried talking to the Sprite, nada, he wont talk to me. I have tried killing him, nada. I have talked to the sprite on the other side of the lake Sabha, nada.I have talked to ***** in Mag Mell, he talks about the veil, but, nothing else. Anyone know what I shoudl do now? My girl is a Champion. Not sure how to proceed now.

I just did this quest as a LVL 11 Bard. Recieved a Gem Encrusted Braclet, Bard usable only. Quick +2 Char +1

Champion level 7 quest. Did it at level 9. Mid-day. Chatted with the lil bugger twice and went swimming to no avail. Kilt him for fun (and spite) on the third visit. Still no letter. 4th time was a charm. A little chit chat with the Mad Sprite and I was on my way. Spawn time was about 4 minutes between tea parties. Got the nifty bracer from the mayor of Mag Mel.

I got the quest from the Champion trainer in Tir na nOg after hitting lvl 7. I found the Mad Sprite after 12:00 o'clock noon at the big tree with no leaves at the pond (there is another tree with no leaves at the pond but that one is much thinner, go to the wide tree).
The Mad Sprite talked about the veil falling and gave me a message to ***** saying he would understand. After returning the note to ***** in Mag Mel he turned pale and told he hoped I would never needed to know what the message foretold. He also gave me an Etched Bracer.

I found th little pond and even found a dead tree (no leaves) and waited and waited and the Mad Sprite never popped up. I though it was there from midnight until noon. When does it appear?

got quest at lvl7, went to spot spoke to mad sprite, he spoke the jiberish and said to run away and commensed to kill me. upon return, i spoke to him again and got nothing. I had to kill him to get the letter to take back to ******

he wanders around the tree with no branches and the north end of the pond. That is the easist way to find him once you are at the pond.

Actually the mad sprite will react differently.
I got a nightshade to 11 twice (first time I reset)
First time I did the quest, I just talked to him. He didn't go swiming or anything, just gave me the letter.
Second time I did the quest he attacked and killed me. He was blue so of course since I'm a nightshade and didn't have surprise I couldn't beat him. I should have ran, heh.

the guys name that i finished the quest with was ****** who is in Mag Mell.
What does Quickness DO? Does anyone know?

also, after "going for a swim" with the Mad Sprite, I also had to look for him... and talk to him twice more...
After the third time, he gave up the letter without a fight (which was good, because he was grey to me by the time I had found the pond, so I'm not sure if killing him would have yielded the letter)

It appears that this quest is given to all in the path of essence. That is - Nightshade, Bard, Champion, and Enchanter.
Some think the epics quests are alligned along the paths - as this quest appears to be - So I wonder if it is the start of the epic quest?

This pond is the same one as the "Fish for Sabha" quest. It's due NW of Tir na mBeo, and is surrounded by huge, dark trees. It's hard to miss. The sprite spawns after midnight, on the NW side of the pond. After you finish talking to him, he despawns. I dont know if you have to wait till the next day at midnight for him to respond, but I doubt thats the case.

I just finished the mad sprite quest and received a silvery coin and a shadowy gem. Any ideas on what these are for?

A silver coin is just that, it sells for 100 copper.
A shadowy gem (same reward my 7th Nightshade got, I think) is a jewelry slot item that gives stats.
If you right-click an item and then use shift-i, you can find out powers of any items. This will not work if you have remapped your keyboard to RPG form. If you have, you'll have to use /keyboard to find out where the identify function is mapped to.

Where is this "pond" and I dont see "the pond" located on the map, is Tir Na mBeo the same is Tir Na Nog?

Tir na mBeo is a seperate city from Tir na nOg. It's further south, and not on the basic map, as it's not a starting city. (But still a very nice one all in all)
