Haunted appletrees are located in Avalon Isle (SI) just across the border from Isle of Glass at loc #55561, 50795.
Part of the "quick quests" given by the officers in Camelot. Quest: Harrowing the Haunted Appletree (Level 24). Step #1 - Locate and destroy a haunted appletree in the lands surrounding Avalon City.
Upon killing the Haunted Appletree you immediately complete the quest. You do not have to return to the Quest-giving NPC.
Although I got this quest at level 24, I completed it at level 25 and received:
216,865 XP.

are these guys easily solo'ed by a 20 sight necro?
while these trees do agro if you stand around, they aren't as bad as the apple snatchers or the seed guy. another words, if your hunting the trees, you've got plenty of time to land a position based attack to start a dmg chain or what not.
also, on a minor note, either the trees or the seedguy(cant rememeber which it was i got them from) likes to drop a lotta class specific caster staves, about lvl 20

The above picture is evidentally using a placekeeper model of an old world tree (from Beta most likely).
The Haunted Appletree of release is a much more interesting looking tree-man. I will try to get a screenshot of one next time I am in the area.
