Yup, the xBow is trainable for the Armsman. As for being a waste of points, I am thinking not at all (having played various archers).

1) Crossbow is a trainable style just as Polearm, Slash, Shield, etc. Therefore, spec'ing in xBow will increase maximum _average_ damage.

2) Also mentioned above, Armsman should be giddy with spec points. Taking into account potential item and RvR rewards, an Armsman could spec to (by 50, and not including auto-training, if any)

39 Slash, 42 Shield, 32 Parry, 40 XBow...

Potentially = 50, 50, 43+, 50+

*Again, this is not counting auto-training. Also, another reminder: the added skill pts (from items and/or RvR rank rewards) give bonuses to hit/dam, not Styles.

Think I might be rolling an Armsman as (another) alt, to see how a pure Tank plays. : )

Its just great for pulling, and u can kick out the scout in ur group if u got bolts and a bow, since if u buy any long range bolts u can pull far enough, thats why scouts having hard time finding a group in this game, putting points hmm i donno, im lvl 41 and im currently using this orange con bow and does around 60 to 90 to a red, around 120 to 150 to a yellow without putting any points.. so its really up to u guys.. u know a crossbow takes forever to shoot, reload, etc.. u wanna range, int casters.. i dont think that can do much since a caster can fire faster then u, scout and shoot longer and faster then u during RvR, so i dont think crossbow is much of a help in RvR
Definately Useful

At level 18 I have a 9 skill in Crossbow and think it is well worth it. I can regularly hit for 40+ damage (flight broadheads) and often get 3 shots off before melee. This additional 120+ damage helps. Your skill is important... just like melee skills, the higher your skill, the more often you will hit and for more consistantly high damage. Its not like as an armsman we are short of training points :)
Equipping your Crossbow
# Dec 08 2001 at 1:04 AM Rating: Default
Although this may be a dumb question, I have found it not so easy to equip my crossbow and map a hotkey button in the hotkey bar, because when I go to switch my crossbow out with my weapon, it unmaps my hotkey. Is there another way of doing this or is this just how it is? Thanks for your reply in advance.

Only uses I know for it are pulling and interrupting casters in PvP..

Other than that lets your scouts / casters do the real long-range dmg..

If your an Armsman your a melee machine.. That's your purpose.. :)

The crossbow was added to the armsman to complete the 'missile-equipped albion' theme. Like, all the classes in albion have missile weapons in some way or another, which is supposed to be their 'style' in PVP.

Plus, hell, By they time you're level 15 you can spare 6 points to put your xbow at 3, and it's a decent puller for a class that has no pull ability at all.
Who can make crossbow bolts and Crossbows?
# Nov 29 2001 at 12:29 PM Rating: Default
I know that flecthers can make Bows & Arrows (cutting down on thier cost from purchasing from an NPC). However I don't know of anyone who can make crossbows and bolts to cut down on our cost. Does anyone know of which/any skill type that can make these things?

Players cannot create bolts at this time. I have a Scout with a 450+ fletching skill and can make most arrows, but still no bolts.

bah, just use the crossbow for pulling, points are better spent in parry or weapon spec.

Crossbows a re decent

the crossbow does actually do some decent damage. with basically no skill in it i was doing around 30 at 19th. which really isnt that bad. i can get 2 hits with the crossbow before the mob gets hand to hand. these were flight bolts.

I am thinking that i might be able to set my inventory up with one flight followed by a short range bolt. that might give a few extra damage points.

Also keep in mind that the damage buffs from paladins and such will add to this so it's very likley that a crossbow hit would do 50 damage to the mob. not bad. doesnt come close to a scout. scouts are wicked.

so any thing special to it?
# Nov 11 2001 at 2:15 AM Rating: Default
so... dont they think we can handel some sort of advanced action from, well, point and shoot?

Yeah, being a scout, I'm wondering if Armsman get any kind of styles for this. As a scout I only get crit shot 1-6(I think), though they are gonna add volley and quick shot later. Be kinda nice if yall do get some skills, though they should of course not even come close to scout ability, though they should still be useful to ya. Here's a good question though: Why would any armsman actually spec in his crossbow? Does it do enough damage to actually put points in or does it seem to be a stupid waste to points. Just seems like yall got much more important things to worry about.

Honestly, I don't think it would be unbalancing if the crossbow skill did have similar styles to what Scouts receive. The crossbow is incredibly slow to load, so it isn't like they're going to get three shots fired before something is upon them.
it is a skill
# Nov 09 2001 at 7:39 PM Rating: Default
it is by all means a skill, only thing is that we first get it at 15, other then that its just an ordinary skill

Can we get critical hit if we keep investing skill points on it? Need to know cuz i feel as though i am wasting these points. Currently @ 17 skill with a 30LVL armsman.

Have you noticed ANY benefit to the points you've spent? Are you getting more range, do you hit more often, does the crossbow fire faster, etc?
yes
# Nov 07 2001 at 4:56 PM Rating: Default
Think so, I am able to train in crossbow since lvl 15
?
# Nov 06 2001 at 6:53 PM Rating: Default
I didn't think this skill was trainable, but I just saw an item that gives plus one to crossbow skill. Was I wrong?
