I made a fire and earth Wiz and I haven't played for 2 months and was wondering if there was any important updates that I should know about before I play again.

Am i missing something, i`ve a lvl 11 earth wiz and haven`t seen the DoT spells in my calefaction spell line. Is there some special requirement for these?

Earth wizzie - summary
# Aug 07 2002 at 7:59 AM Rating: Default
I have a 100% earth wizzie lvl 37 atm

Earth has it's place - no better , no worse than fire or ice

My regular group is one earth wiz , one fire wiz , one cabbie - with just these 3 ( lvl 37 , lvl 44 , lvl 45 ) we can pull the entire pygmy tangler spawn , kill em , rinse and repeat. Gets me about .2 bubs per pull , and we can do 2-3 pulls a minute in full swing.

**AOE root - good replacement if you need CC
**AOE snare - good for running in an overpull
**Dot - can take amn orange to 50% with one casting
**Bolt - earth bolt does good dmg , but less than fire spec bolt
**Fire bolt and Fire line dd - inconsistent dmg due to lack of spec , still worth using in emergencys
** GT aoe : fantastic in rvr
** Dmg buff : NOTE you may overwrite a higher lvl fire/ice wizzies dmg add with urs - BUT the higher lvl is still better ( overwrites due to Earth spec being better than them )
** Dmg shield : give it to tanks / pets - adds serious dmg and reduces downtime.

Overall : easy to solo yellows at current lvl , good for groups , awesome in RVR

Fire wiz - awesome dmg , best in the realm
Ice - best aoe root and gets a pbaoe that is uber
Earth - good support , medium dmg , best used in defense

My 2p worth :)

I just want to say I hope most wizzies that did not pick earth will respec to earth cause we need to have more of us with our new spells they rock big time in RVR and lvling ( I love being the new CC man on the block) I get into groups so easy now. It's kinda nice being only one of the few earth wizzies. I feel special :) but I really think earth is the best now. Plz don't argue about this it's just my opinion. But our realm does need more of us earth wizzies.
# Aug 01 2002 at 9:36 PM Rating: Default
omfg noobs.. stop talking about the friggin earth buffs... the Dmg Add and AF is baseline.. which means you get them no matter where the hell you stick your points!.. and the dmg shield which is earth spec is crap, i dont even use it.
Earth spec. has.... 1. AE+snare 2. DoT 3. Dmg shield 4. GTAE 5. Bolt

Fact is, earth wizards are necessary now for Albion to compete with other realms because of ground target aoe. You don't need line of sight to cast it. It rules in keep defense keep taking. No longer do you have to stand in the open to nuke your enemy and the best they can do is try to send assassins after you, which is a suicide mission cause you can ae from the courtyard. Earth is the way to go now, you can outdamage fire wizards with dot in rvr and you can do crowd control with ae root.
# Jul 06 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Default
I just barely made an earth wiz..and i have seen people fire 2 bolts right after each other..i am not sure how to do that with the bolt timers..or do you get that ability at a certain lvl...i have no idea so if someone could help out.i would be very appreciative!!!
# Jul 11 2002 at 6:12 PM Rating: Default
You can use one bolt from the Path of Fire line and a bolt from one of your other lines like Calefaction line thus giving you 2 bolts to fire. After you use those 2 your have to wait for the timer to allow you to cast them both again.
grouping with an Earth spec
# Jun 20 2002 at 2:43 AM Rating: Default
So how is grouping with an earth spec' wiz compared to ice or fire?

Most of the battle ive seen in dungeons the wiz' uses his DD on the primary target.

But the earth line dont have a single target DD.

The earth damage shield (aka root breaker) is a joke (mostly used by low level suicidal earth wiz)

So an earth wiz' end up buffer the melee'ers with Earthen power, (and the patethic damage shield) and then dd'ing the primary with his non specked fire dd's?
RE: grouping with an Earth spec
# Jun 21 2002 at 3:42 AM Rating: Default
First, the damage shield is actually really nice on melee for later levels...I wouldnt suggest using the damage shield on yourself or healers at any level because its designed to hold aggro, so use it on a tank, it r0x0rs.
Secondly, you sound mad at earth wizzys... are you jealous of the aoe snare, aoe root, or the new dot? Maybe your mad because the earth bolt hits harder than the fire bolt. Oh well

i got a lvl40 earth spec wizzy and franky he rocks! :) (no pun intended) and soon as the new spell lines come out hes gonna be even better
if nothing else his dmg buff is very uber, at lvl 35 i was overriding a lvl50 wizards dmg buff's :)
and when it comes to power leveling lowbies a earth wiz is great

I have a lvl 37 Earth Spec Wizard and I love it! The new spells rule and before the Anti-Kite coding came out I was soloing reds. I even got lucky one time and killed the Named Moore Boogey in Cornwall. He was Purple at the time. Now at 37 I CAN solo oranges again because of the new DOT they have given us. Double cast bolt spells and root. Cast at it till it hits around 50% health then root again. Cast the DOT and then double cast bolts again. As the Mob is running away it will get killed by the DOT. The new (run away regen) crap that mobs have will not save the mob LOL. I get recieved into groups all the time and get no grief from anyone. The only thing I hear is NEED WEAPONS AND DMG SHIELD PLEASE hehe. Earth wizards are a support role wizard and I think it is a brilliant approach. BTW the new AE Root ROCKS!!!

I'm a Fire Wiz, Fire isn't resisted as much in RVR as Earth/Ice and using the Ice AE in RVR is (unless you're planning well) stupid. Earth is a pointless spec line really unless you want some nice buffs, Even I know that bolts will be blocked and Fire's DDs are basically the way to role them. in RVR fire is good for picking off enmies, Ice is nice to insane run into the middle and die AE'ing, and earth is nice for buffing and being blocked... that's all.
RE: fire
# Jun 21 2002 at 3:46 AM Rating: Default
Fire isnt resisted as much as other specs? right... you sound like you know what your talking about...look earth is about snaring and dotting get a great taunt damage add shield that everyone downs on because they dont know how to use it. Ice rocks because its snare and the aoe rox stealthers.
If your curious about which spec to go think about it dont listen to these people who are jus angry about their fire spec

People don't forget that you can chain cast bolts. For example I cast my earth spec bolt, and then fire bolt right after. This way you don't have to wait the 12 or 22 secs to recast. I believe this also works in the same spec line so you could cast lvl 18 fire bolt and then lvl 14 with no recast wait.
penalty for spec b4 5th?
# Apr 14 2002 at 12:43 PM Rating: Default
Newbie question -

Is there a penalty for specing before 5th level? When I turned 5th, my earth was 2 but I didn't have lava bolt (which is spec lvl 2). I received it only after I bumped it to 3.

Thanks for any help -
RE: penalty for spec b4 5th?
# Oct 19 2002 at 6:28 PM Rating: Default
No-you just don't get advanced spec lines before you reach lvl 5. At level 5, you will have none of them, but if you put an additional point into it, you will regain all of those spells you didn't get. This is because at lvl 5 you could have decided to be an Earth Theurgist and not an Earth Wizard.

I was curious if anyone knew a little something I've wondered about Baseline spells, and how your spec points relate to them.
For instance: Im 100% earth and of course have the melee enhancment spell (just like all wizards)
Here's the question though. Does the spec'ing in Earth make that baseline spell More effective than say an Ice wizard.
-and conversely would that Ice wizard's baseline snare spell hae a longer timer than that of the Earth spec'd wizard.
If this makes any sense:)

My first impression is no. The base spells for all are the same no matter the spec line you've chosen. Oh well. Just a thought...and if they Are all the same. IMO that's a shame. One would think that 1) yes all wizards share the same base line...but 2) Fire base spells, while cost more mana than their spec line and hit for less, would do more damage than the same spell cast by an Earth wizard.
Something of a half spec'd line of sorts. Could be something of interest I guess for Mythic to look into...
..Im babbling...anyhew. Was just a thought...and curious hehe :P
RE: Forgive the ignorance...
# Jul 28 2002 at 4:36 PM Rating: Default
Hello, I have an answer to that spec affect baseline question. Well when you spec in lets say Ice and cast an ice baseline spell, you will have a higher lower damage. So lets say I cast an Ice bolt (no such thing but whatever) which has a chance of hitting for a damage amount between 43-60dmg. Now if I where to cast lets say the fire bolt, i would have a damage range of 14-65. So no matter what you spec, you can hit just as hard with a basline fire bolt even tho your specced in ice, you just have a lower chance of doing max damage.

I hope you understand what i mean

Good Luck!!! e-mail me if you have a question at

They way your spec points relate to your baseline spells is simple. Basically if you have a higher spec in the baseline it will cost you less power to cast it.
How hard?
# Apr 02 2002 at 12:07 AM Rating: Default
So how hard do the aoe earth spells actually hit? I'm getting into my 40s with my cleric, and I have a 10 wizard right now who is full in fire, but since they have added stuff to earth, im not sure I want to keep going fire. If the earth aoe spells hit like the fire aoe, then i'll delete him and remake one in earth.. Any first-hand opinions?
# Mar 25 2002 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
I've never seen so much misinformation in a forum, since Earth Spec Wiz is my primary I'd like to clear up some of this rubish I'm hearing.

Calefaction has 3 spell lines now:

Bolts: The lava bolt is always more than your baseline fire. It is not as wonderous as some people say, the level 33 Max damage is 615. I see that on low con blues, but anything higher and it has quickly diminishing returns. In keep defense it is a boone. Popping into the crenelations to fire this sometimes-single-shot killer is quite effective. Even when it doesnt kill, whatever you hit with it goes running. On oranges, I deal about 300 with the afore mentioned bolt, the comparative level fire bolt yields about 200 damage.

Area Affects: These are targetable AOEs, not point blank, the level 28 one I hits a wide area, also great fun from a keep wall. I can eliminate areas of archers and casters before they can run,
It takes several castings, but this is an easily chain casted spell. I've killed as many as 8 people with it at the same time. TIP: always target the highest level when using this, cause the chain casting stops when your target is dead, time spent retargeting can allow archers to fire.

Damage shields: What can I say that is positive about these? Everquest damage shields these are not. They are terrible, I think they should outperform weapon buffs, but they deal a paltry 20-something points at level 33. Its not enough damage to change the tide of a battle, but nevertheless, it is mana efficient, as long as you strageically use it on what is being hit.

Lastly, there seems to be confusion about what our bladeturn is. Bladeturn (Shield of incineration) is available in the fire line (not the spec line). Therefore all wizards get it reguardless of spec at level 19.

I also dont think any wizard can solo reds. I simply think thats a lie. Theurgists can, but saying "I can solo reds as long as I dont get any resists" is total spin. You WILL be resisted, plenty, therefore you cant kill reds.

mishandled earth spells?
# Mar 19 2002 at 10:17 AM Rating: Default
Apparently, at level 19 spec in fire, you get a bladeturn (aura of incineration) this is a mistake by mythic. Earth theurgists get bladeturn so why dont the earth wizards get the bladeturn? Are they purposely trying to gimp the Earth wizzy? I mean it doesnt take a lot to realize that the earth wizzy needs such a spell, while the fire spec has been doing fine
RE: mishandled earth spells?

I have a level 34 Wizard fully specced in fire with left over points divided between earth and ice. At my level, I entered the battlegrounds with about 950 RP's (realm points), in about 5 days I hit rank 2. Basically what I'm saying here is that no one class is better than the other. It's just how you learn how to play your character. Btw, I can solo red cons to me baring any resists and yes I use a debuff.

Actually...Lava Bolts and Pyro Bolts are on the same timer. You will indeed get three bolts...but you'll only be able to cast the Fire Spec Bolt and either the Lava or Pyro Bolt.

Earth spec is weak? haha shows how much you know abuot earth spec wizzy, The AoE that wizzys get now aren't point blank, also the AoE that they get have a snare like effect that decreases speed on the MOB/Person its used on.... The bolts damage that a earth spec wizzy is awesome, u can take a MOB that cons blue down to 1/4 or 1/2 easily first hit and u can just use base-line fire DD's to kill it off, 2 bracers of magic will be good enough to bring up the min damage for fire spec line... RvR wise bolts are pure ownage i seen a lvl45 earth spec wizzy take out 10 yellows easily with his ae and took out high trolls with bolt and root, also a earth spec wizzy can cast 1 earth bolt then cast a fire bolt right after in a row if u wanted to, im currently lvl35 wizzy and hunting oranges i barely need to root soemtimes, Earth atw
RE: crazy
# Feb 27 2002 at 4:58 PM Rating: Default
Then you havent been rvr lately cause all fights are now in open or MG fights and always they rush each other and you cant cast bolt on guy in melee its always blocked....So your earth wizzy blows...Fire is best now as it has always been. Next is ice. Then earth.
(PS:the damage on your aoe is so low it shouldnt be called a dd spell. Level 20's can outdamage it.)
RE: crazy
# Mar 14 2002 at 3:04 AM Rating: Default
nah earth is the diamond in the rough...the new aoe is the icing on the cake, it owns, period. Right now im only lvl 13, I solo oranges by kiting them with my dual bolts which r0x0r. I solo blues with one hit maybe 2, and can take several (3-4) greens np with my aoe, as far as the damage being bad, that isnt true at all, i can take a yellow by snaring it over and over with that aoe, it hits plenty hard. I mean seriously, i can understand a wizard who doesnt pick earth, but an experienced wizard, with a spec in earth is in my opinion the best, sorry guys, the new patch just opened up this specialization and until you try it,dont count out us earth wizzys!
# Feb 08 2002 at 4:08 PM Rating: Default
First of all, the AOE that was just put in yesterday is not even close to the power of a pyro aoe. Secondly if your casting an AOE in RVR that is point blank, most likely the fragile wizard casting will not live to recast. The ranged fire AOE is second to none.

Another reason why Ice/Fire isbetter than Earth would be that most buffs are BASELINE!LOL. Oh ya, your DDs are very inconsistant if ya haven't noticed :)

After lvl 40 wizards start to get extra training points, this means that we can't spec in just one line even if we wanted to.
So this means we have to have a secondary path as you can't put mor spec points in one path than your lvl.

So why not choose earth?
Path of earth/calefaction has some insane buffs, great for groups in RvR and for power lvling other chars.
The bolt spells rival the path of fire and have less delay time to cast. (After casting a firebolt you have to wait 22 seconds to do it again, with earth you only wait 12 seconds).
Siege spells are on the list to go into the path of earth
Remember the earthquake spell they had on the test server? It'll be redone and implemented as an uber AE no doubt.

At the moment I have a level 40 Wizard, specced fully in ice. ICE has the most damaging spell in the game in the form of an AE. It practically kills anything around you. Most of the ice spells have an integrated snare which is essential in RvR.

And to top it all off, I'm going into earth for the better bolt line.

When you think about it, path of fire is useless =)

Do not go Earth, just a warning, Mythic really hasn't thought it through with Earth mages, it's like speccing 1 line like a Runemaster or Eldritch, MINUS the DD and the AoE under the same spec. For Extra's Runemasters get 2 debuffs, and a run buff. Eldritch get a Damage shield, and Wizards get a Damage shield and Weapon Buff.

work together

earth buffs increase your AF and gives you added damage.

The Calefaction buff does a small amount of damage to you attacker every time he hits, Plus it breaks mez and root spells

what I really like about earthen buffs is that they are friends buff with no conseration. so you can buff as many people as you want.
