ok listen up chillins, if you play pvp, there is only one way to go, and thats air, in the backstabbing and madness of it all, i just ae mez, pop a few pets on em, that stuns the crap outa em, and my group finishes em off, or i nuke em to death, AIR IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO IN PVP, now in rvr (or regular play) do whatever you wanna do, but all in all, it just comes down to what you wanna play, heck with my 50 war i wear epic armor even though it sucks, just cuase it looks neat. just do what ya like, but if ya wanna be powerful in pvp, go air

Whoever posted "How to play a theur" on Sun May 5th - you rock my world. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just went to bg1 last night and died over and over, NOW (thanks to your ideas) i know how to play a theurgist in rvr. Going to 26th with earth then wind the rest of levels sounds great! Now feel confident in my theurgist again. Cool.

Well I wish Everyone quit disin on air pets if you send alot in there it could be stun after stun after stun and thats awesome in RvR and PvE because if you slapped them on a healer in a BG he would be next to dead and when figthing mobs they hardly even attack my pets cuz there stun is going off most of the time
how come...?
# Jun 10 2002 at 9:09 PM Rating: Default
how come after a while of casting nothing but pets the monster/s comes after u?
RE: how come...?
# Jun 15 2002 at 7:49 PM Rating: Default
Because the first pet that hits the monster causes the most aggro to be transferred on you.

The often used tactic is to buff your 2nd or 3rd pet with an attack speed buff so that there is a better chance for more aggro on the 2nd/3rd pet instead of the mob coming at you.

According to the spell list and specialization I was suppose to get a higher lvl pet at skill point 7. Well I am at skill point 7 and I did not get a higher lvl pet(Call lesser earth elemental). I did recieve the one for Vapormancy but I did not get it for Abrasion. Does anyone know why>
ice vs air

I'm a 39 theurgist and have 26 in ice so far cuz i went to 26 in earth and got pbt, im wondering if i should dump all the ice and go air when they come out with the respec 4 specializations... or dump the 11 that i put in air early on...

Bottom line is what're the advantages of ice and what're the advantages of air?

How to play a theurg
# May 05 2002 at 1:20 PM Rating: Default
To try and answer as many questions as i can, i have a 42 theurg, specd nearly even in all fields. Depending on your playing style, earth is definitely the best way to start for solo or groups. Earth pets last the longest (30 seconds) and do the most melee damage, as well as take hits better then the other pets. The bladeturn in the earth line is awesome for groups, especially once you reach 26 earth spec for the pulsing 10 second bladeturn. Training in ice gets you better AE roots and snare nukes, plus snare nuking pets. Wind gets you a short AE mez and the more powerful DD spells, but i recommend not using the pets, they only last 20 seconds, and do crap damage and are weak. Its a lot of power to use just for a quick stun that they resist half the time. For me, i found the easiest way to level was to full spec in earth up to 26 for the pbt(pulsing bladeturn), and you'll be as valuable to any group as a minstrel's power song. I trained in ice for the AE roots, and to throw a couple ice pets with the earth pets for soloing, though i think it was a mistake. In rvr, nearly every battle is decided by the mezzes and stuns, so training in wind afterwards would definitely give you a better advantage in rvr situations with the AE mez. If you're not big on rvr, and prefer soloing even at the higher levels, going 32 earth and 25 ice would be the best way to go, getting the best pets in each field. going any higher then 32 earth or 25 ice will NOT make your pet stronger, because you already have the best pet you can get, and its strength is simply based on your level after that. If you're a big fan of rvr, i would recommend 26 earth for pbt for your group, and all wind after that for the DDs and AE mezzes, pets are virtualy useless at the higher levels in rvr. Ice pets are ok at distracting people, but the AE mezzes and nukes is what kills em. Hope this helps :)
Pow and Earth vs Ice
# Apr 23 2002 at 6:12 AM Rating: Default
Hi, I find that if your intelligence is very high (my thuergist have 176 intel)the pow regenerate very slow. Is that true? is there anything or items that boost pow regenration

I'm deep in RvR, I was wondering wish line should I go. Currently, I'm 32 earth and 18 ice. Both pets are blue to me. I konw that if I put points for 8secs or even 6secs PBT, thats lesser chance to get killed by "snipers". But I will be sitting most of the time regenerating mana. But my ice will sucks. need some experience view on what should i do to created a thuer on RvR up to now?

By the way, is there any gd item out there that give gd dark resistance? got killed by that ^*(^(^ runemaster too many times :(

thanks for any suggestion
RE: Pow and Earth vs Ice
# May 15 2002 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default
its not that your power is regenerating at a slower rate, it is regenerating just as fast as it would if your int was lower, the problem is you have more to regenerate. With a large increase in intelligence, you also get a large increase in the amount of power you have. Power does not regenerate on a percentage level, it regenerates on a set number based system. Meaning you take longer because there is more to regenerate, not because the regeneration rate has decreased.

Do the thurg pets eat XP? I heard so many different things. hope you can clear it up for me.
RE: Striking
# Apr 03 2002 at 3:38 AM Rating: Default
Yes they do, up to 25 % .. If the Pet does the whole job on its own, it gets 25 % of the EXP... The less it does, the less EXP it gets.. But who cares, if u can kill an orange or even red Mob ?.. *g*

RE: Striking
# Aug 30 2002 at 12:45 PM Rating: Default
That is not totally correct. Lets take for example if 4 Theurgs cast their pets only and the pets do all the damage, and if each pet takes 25% of the xp do doing all of the damage to kill the mob, then that would mean 4 pets or more depending on the mob, form 4 separate sources would mean 100% of the xp to the pets. Which is not true, because that has been tested out. We had 4 earth theurgs take out a mob and compared the results to just one killing the mob. What came out was that no matter how many pets are involved they can only take up to 25%. So if you have a group of all petters sending pets, the pets totally can only take up to 25% of the xp if they do all of the damage. However every DD spell, friction spell, buff, debuff, BT that is cast cuts into the percentage that the pets take.

Does a level 50 theurgest (all spec points in earth) cast a stronger earth beast than a level 40 theurg (all spec points in earth)
RE: earth pets
# Mar 15 2002 at 4:26 AM Rating: Default
nope as u can see, u already got the best earthpet with 32points in the earthtree, so if u go full earth u get it at lvl 32
RE: earth pets

That is wrong, your pets do get stronger with more skill.
RE: earth pets
# Mar 16 2002 at 5:07 AM Rating: Default
sorry to disagree here.. but pets strengh come from the pwer you have.. they cost 12% of your power.. the more power you have the stronger your pet. Each pet does have a top end limit *cap* which is when you get the next pet.

RE: earth pets
# Mar 31 2002 at 5:59 AM Rating: Default
Regardless of my level, it takes exactly 4 earth eles to take down a yellow conn, assuming I cast nothing else.

It has been that way every since I first got earthies - nomatter the level.

Obviously, they must get stronger, or else I would have to cast more eles as I progressed upward :)
RE: earth pets
# Apr 19 2002 at 1:01 PM Rating: Default
assuming you have the strongest pet you can get it will be 7/8 of your level. If not then it will cap out at the lvl when you would have got the next pet.
Pet Differences
# Jan 13 2002 at 5:43 AM Rating: Default
What exactly is the difference between the different types of pets (ice, earth, and air). And also what is the difference between the different variants of the summoning spells(the higher level as opposed to lower level ones.)
RE: Pet Differences
# Jan 18 2002 at 1:17 PM Rating: Decent
From the guides I have read it goes as follows:
Earth pets are strongest in melee. 30seconds and hit hardest. No effect known.
Ice pets are next strongest. 25seconds and cast the same freeze/slow spell that wizards get, but will melee if the enemy gets close enough.
Air pets are the weakest. 20seconds, but each time they hit they have a random chance to stun (which is the red flame effect). This can be helpful when running away.

More imporantly, the air spec theurg can nuke a LOT harder than the ice or earth. The ice theurg will be able to root the unit when the pets go down, and the earth spec theurg will absorb a hit and hit hard when it breaks thru the pets. The trick is, most of the time, with any of these strategies, you can take down yellows comfortably, oranges with difficulties, and reds until you reach level 15 or so. I've heard that combinations of these strategies can keep you taking down reds solo to even higher levels. It's more about what direction you want the character to go, and what's most fun to you. Personally, I like being in a group with tanks so I get some experience, so I went earth. I buff the tanks, handle the adds with a pet each, the healers get a break from healing all the time because of the bladeturns, and I get lots of experience. It works for me.
RE: Pet Differences
# Mar 13 2002 at 11:58 AM Rating: Default
I know I am still a newbie but I have chosen the path of ice, but still use a variety of pets. I have been soloing boulderlings since lvl8 using this strategy, i am almost lvl10 now.

Yellows- Send in an earth pet to melee, then 2 ice pets who stand back and nuke. I move to the side of the mob (back of course) after 20 seconds, I cast 2 more ice pets (if needed). The secret to ice pets is they r deadly when they nuke, not melee. From here I either finish off w/ a nuke or slow mob when he aggros and let pets finish.

Reds- same except I send 2 earths an ice then an air....move...wait...nuke...slow and then enough ice pets to finish him.
RE: Pet Differences
# May 15 2002 at 9:36 AM Rating: Default
That is a good strategy.... for lvl 10, once you get to higher, more INTELLIGENT mobs, casting 4-5 pets gets you IMMEDIATE aggro, not to mention people between lvls 15-35 will more than likely NOT have more than one type of strong pet.

Its hard to split up your points between more than one spec and still keep your strength, once you get higher its fine, but until then you should stick to specing in one area till it is as high as you want it. It is better to be GOOD in one area, rather than mediocre in a couple.

I recommend earth first till 32 or 35, best pets, and BT for groups (you can hold off with ice DD's for a while), then follow up with air till 45 to finish with the best nukes and aoe mez.

there'a a bug in the game that prevents you from getting abraison and refrigiration spells until you have 5 skills points in those paths. once you put the 5th point in, you get the three spells that you've been missing.

Air pets don't kill, YOU do. I have 19 vapor, 5 earth (for absorb hit), 5 ice (for aoe root). My pets couldn't kill an even con unless I used all my mana on'em.

You'll notice your pets hit stuff and you see flash of red. That's called stun. Get out your Blasting Gust spell.

Find a yellow con. Cast 3 pets on it from a good ways off. Use your Blasting Gust and nuke it down. You'll notice when it charges you, your pets will stun it, stop it giving you even more time to nuke it.

If you don't like this method, or don't like using nukes, stop now, or restart (prob better) and go earth. Imo, Vapormancy theurgs are the best soloers for mana efficiency, it's also riskier and requires a lot more committment to the spec (get far behind and you're better off in a different spec). The mez isn't that good, the nuke isn't good unless you keep the spec nearly maxed (standard issue ice nuke is close. At 45 air you get 210 nuke, at 50 all theurgs get 180).

I'd say if you don't like vapor, go earth and ice. Earth 35/ice 41 will get you 8 second pulsing absorb hit, the best ice and earth pets, a decent DD/snare, super aoe root (lasting like a minute and yes that's good). You'll have to start over to hit those perfectly, no room for vapor.

If you are going vapor, I suggest 45 vapor/26 earth/10 ice. That means you have to stick to vapor and can't get too far behind until 40 when you get extra points otherwise your standard ice nuke will do as much dmg. I'd spare 5 points in earth early for absorb hit, the rest should go into vapor.

If you don't want to start over, it hardly matters. I know a ton of Ice theurgs who use a stunning pet, a couple ice pets, a stunning pet, a couple ice pets. It seems to work well for'em, personally, I like nuking 3 yellow/blues down in a row to half power, rest up. Don't even use pets, that's just me.
RE: zeuss

Why were you a theurgist if you dont use pets? Why not sorc or wizzy? IM lvl 21 and can solo orange-red cons pretty easily.

Hmmm I find this curious. Every time your pets stun the stun gets 1/2 effective from the previous time for deminishing returns. it seems like it wouldn't be very efficient when things go bad. My specs are all spread out and I do just fine. I can kill a blue with one Earth and one ice pet or a yellow with 2 of each and no extra nukes. If I get one thats lucky or tough I quickcast an air to finish them so the stun has full effect for the endgame. This way you can run back a touch without worrying about being over run. Yes air has the best nukes but ice lets you cast extra nuke casters so it isnt a fair comparison. This looks intriguing though in that maybe I could try no tank attacking by sending an air first and then 2 ice (snare nukers)then some of my own snare nukes. I will have to check to see if it is any more efficient than 4 pets for a yellow but I doubt it.

To further clarify, Abrasion is tied directly to the Path of Earth line.

When you gain levels, you gain more Path of Earth spells. To make your Path of Earth spells stronger, you place specialization points into Path of Earth. When your Path of Earth specialization hits a certain number, you gain the next Abrasion spell.

Does that clear up any problems?
earth pet spell
# Dec 06 2001 at 11:21 PM Rating: Default
yes, earth pets do use a spell. they cast the slow attack speed spell that's in the earth line.

and, he's right. the attack speed debuff is a part of the abrasion spec line, and should be listed here.

as you why that dude couldn't find abrasion in his trainer's list, that's because "abrasion" is just the fancy name for the theur's earth spec spells. if you put spec points in earth, what that will give you is the abrasion spells.
Spell List
# Nov 24 2001 at 9:31 AM Rating: Default
this spell list is not complete or is just done very wrong. if you want a more accurate and complete spell list go to the Caster's Realm.

Whomever maintains this webpage you need to get your facts straight. Skin of Dust may be a speciliaztion skill level of 2 but at what level would I most likely attain that? You need to put the class level next to the spec level so we get a better understanding of when we can expect to get these spells. And yes there is a Theurgist BASE spell list because I have gotten spells added to my list when I level BEFORE I spend my points.
RE: Spell List
# Nov 28 2001 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
Lighten up. You can't put the class level next to the spec level. These are abrasion (earth specialization) spells not Path of Earth (base) spells. You get them (or not get them), depending on whether or not you choose to put points in them.

Do pets get better as you level or does it depend on the skill? I was thinking of having 32 earth 32 to air, but would this be a waste of my time? Will the lvl 32 earth/air pet con grey when I reach 40+?

In response to your question, I believe pets 7/8 of your level. So, for example, if you don't get the highest pets, your weaker level pets should still be green.

Weapon buff your pets
# Nov 05 2001 at 9:21 PM Rating: Default
This improves their ability to hold aggro incredibly. Takes a little bit of fancy mousework in the middle of the fight, but I start fights pretty close (earthen power has a short range) and summon pets and weapon buff em on the way in. Reds became no problem to solo doing this. Only downside is the damage is accredited to the pet, so it does take more xp.
RE: Weapon buff your pets
# Nov 07 2001 at 11:51 PM Rating: Default
Why weapon buff a pet? It's not worth it at all. In the time that you're casting the buff, you could be summoning more pets (with different abilities at that).
RE: Weapon buff your pets
# Nov 21 2001 at 12:39 AM Rating: Default
Because, they hold aggro that way a lot better, granted you could summon more pets, but if you have 2 pets hitting, each has a seperate amount of aggro, if you have one pet hitting twice as hard it gets more aggro. I am sure every theurgist is familiar with the chain summoning pet scenerio where you send in a line of pets and as soon as the first pet dies, the mob makes a b-line directly for you, with all your other pets chasing behind it. If you weapon buff the pets, the first dies, and the monster shifts his focus to the second pet.
Plus, the weapon buffs in my experience are about 1/2 the power cost of pets, so it is more power efficient.
Earth Pet is The Best First Pet.
# Oct 30 2001 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
If I had a chance to redo My character I would Save My points .. Become a Theurgst at level 5 Then I would spend my remaining point on whatever I choose... But at level 5 you will die more often without the earth pet .. It seems to hold the taunt beter. Cast about 3 pets then Blast it till it gets to you and you should be able to kill it with one hit of your staff if it is not dead already. So unless you want the level 50 air spell.. or Ice .. then get the earth pet first then do what you want.
