spears are mainly for groups see you take in a lot of DM thats what healers are for,if you wanna solo i would recomand faster spears like short spears and just spears and use large ones for grouping and dont get piised at them and drop em if they suck at first (heard that someone had a problem for a couple of first lvls) I personaly chosse spears cause they ROCK aganst midgard in RvR (i dislike midgard a lot) also tip have your celtic spear skill at the same or higher your lvl for max damage(DM) and they do thrust damage a uniqe damage for spears and for all of you out there get to lvl 15 fast cause when you do YOU WILL ROCK rwhen i was lvl 8-15 get someone from guild a high lvler healer to buff me all the way,i could solo oranges and lvl up very quickly so have happy hunting ROCK ON HIBERIAN WARRIORS peace and happy killing midgadians

Correct, they finally owned up and admited that LW's do not use any other skill, so you don't have to train in blade/blunt to use LW's. The same holds true with CS, even though it's piercing damage you don't have to train in pierce.
Do they use another skill?

Hi, I have put all my points into the Spear, but I do not seem to be doing anywhere near the damage that others are doing, for extra damage is pierce skill required as well?

No you don't, put all points into cs and parry. I am a lvl41 Hero and hit harder then anybody my lvl other then casters.
Quick question

Does spear take pierce skill as well as Celtic Spear?
Entrap AND Tracking spear
# Nov 17 2001 at 10:58 PM Rating: Default
both Entrap and TrackingSpear work after a successful Evade... VERY USELESS!!!

Don't ever think you will pull either of these off...Especially in a group environment

Never evade? Evade to my knowledge has a Qui and Dex check on it... or Qui at least. I have a few characters in all the realms on various servers but one thing seems to be universal to me is quicker and more agile characters evade more. So if your saying moves that start with an evade are usless, I might check a few things. 1- How good is your dex and quickness? 2- In groups are you getting the aggro, evade only works if the thing is on you and if its not (and your not main tank) don't complain :)

Ok well that's my 2cp, Good Hunting to you All

If Celtic Spear is two handed why is the combat move Entrap use after blocking target? If you have no sheild out how are you suppose to block?

most likely this is a typo there was one or two skills that my hunter recieved for spears that said to use after blocking, and seeing as A)spears are two handed and 2)hunters don't use shields.. i questioned the same thing, someone else pointed out it was a typo in the game files and it worked after parrying (maybe it was after evading not 100%) so i tried it out in game and sure enuff it worked that way, and later i believe they fixed what it said in the skill description in game too (don't play my hunter anymore tho, till they put in tracking)
clarification

celtic spears are 2handed and based SOLEY on your celtic spear skill...large weapons are based off slsahing/blunt (depending on the large weapon), which makes spears very useful, on the downside, their damage is 50/50 str/dex, which means if you have a low dex, your damage will suffer =(
currently at lvl 21...the spear i used, a barbed spear, is incredibly slow...but with special attacks the dmg output is insane!! can usually do over 150 with hunter's lance, and forest spear, my taunt goes around 80...this is on blues/yellows..but even on oranges/reds its still pretty scary..:)

Some post once had these things as stand alone items. This meaning they weren't reliant on piercing or large weapons. I believe this was addressed on a camelotvault.com forum extensively. Allthough, I'm not sure if there was anything definative. My guess would be to wait and read up before putting points into piercing and large weapons. It's one of those things we don't want to regret latter. Of course the are 2H weapons and DEX and STR will apply like in all spears.
Large Weapons?
# Oct 28 2001 at 6:47 AM Rating: Default
Do these count as large weapons? Thrust weapons? What? Other than putting points into Celtic Spears and Parry - what should I look at, Piercing or Large Weapons?
1H of 2H?
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:28 AM Rating: Default

Spears are 2h

1H or 2H?
# Oct 16 2001 at 10:14 PM Rating: Default
OK, this is a question I've seen argued on other boards that I would like a definitive answer to before I hit level 5 and choose my fate regarding weapons.

ARE CELTIC SPEARS 1-HANDED OR 2-HANDED WEAPONS!?

Thank you very much in advance.

2-Handed, Pericing. same dam penaltys as any other percing weapon. But on the plus side they have the second highest base dam in the game.
(according to DAoC strategy guide)
Yeah!

I hear these things looked very bad-***. WoW, whoever told me was right. I saw a Hero walk by me with one and I almost passed out. It looks like it could slay a dragon, if it tripped over it.
