Ok...this says to use after parry enemy. I may be missing something, but I have yet to see myself parry anything....evade alot ya, but parry, no.....so does that make this crit worthless?

Was thinking of starting a NS and I noticed this too....but it gets better....if you can't pull off a Leaper you can't use Ripper!!!! NS's must have been the last on the list for game development but even then you would think they could at LEAST make the NS attack chains workable. Maybe the info above is incorrect....if so please post.

I don't know about the rest of you, but i found that putting a lot of points into envenom is a really good idea for us shades. I still have back stab, ect and 1 special in dual, but my poisons do the most damage. One does 10 damage at least 4 times a battle (I am lvl 7.) Plus if you dual weild, you can use 2 different poisons, like lethal and weakening. With the combined effect, I can solo yellows. I had a lvl 10 shade that specilized in weapons and was so dissapointed with her I had to start over. I could not even solo blue and was group dependant. My advice to new shades, envenpm 1st, weeapons second.

Shades kick ***. You just have to play one past level 10 to find it out. Don't tell me something sucks until you actually play one.
Infiltrator class

So far i am completely unimpressed with this class. Compared to other classes they are so weak it is embarrasing to play them. Next class.

Haha you are a fool, once I hit lvl 21 i can solo better then any one I know. I out damage armsman that are 2 levels higher then me in the same group. I agree infiltrators struggle early on, but an Infiltrator's life is a hard one. So my friend you are just to weak to be one of us! I am glad you moved on to a different class, cause you must be strong to be one of us. I tell you what, when I crit on Peforate and do over 400 pts of damage to a yellow and kill him in one blow. And the whole group just turns around and looks at me and says WOW! your right that is quiet emdarrasing!

# Oct 28 2001 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
I see in all the DaoC boards and sites that the CS is not soo good as it may be....
This skills is necessary in infiltration's role but looks like Mithyc doesnt hear it at all...
I suppose we must wait until next patch to see our best skill improved.

Backstab damage
# Oct 24 2001 at 10:07 AM Rating: Default
Hi,

I am a lvl 13 Nightshade and with a Quartz curved dagger(7 dmg) I can backstab-2 a BLUE monster for 61(max). I was wondering what numbers other people were seeing. I believe my crit strike skill is 13. I am somewhat disappointed with this, as I know a lvl 11 Champion that can hit every turn with their style for 50ish dmg. Howeverm, we have to go to all the trouble of hiding and walking behind and can pretty much only do it once per battle.. Not to mention I miss around 50% of the time against anything orange and above. I just thought it would be a bit more powerful.

I also heard that we can just use a more damaging weapon, such as a ******* sword (11 dmg) to achieve a higher backstab, anyone able to confirm this with numbers (before I go spend money on a $$$ weapon)?

Well, listen up.... Understand that we are not Rangers, champs or heros we are Nightshades. We specialize in sneak attacks our damage will never equal others but in Backstabs. Everything plays different with different stats. Plus not all is finished with the NS class, soz be patient. If you enjoy it play it if ya dont then change it.Trust me later on we will be bad to the bone

RE: Backstab damage

Well, I am only a level 7 and I have initially put more points into str then most others (I'd think), so my numbers may not exactly reflect this situation. However, I do get about 20-40% more damage with a blades weapon, both in backstabbing and otherwise. Keep in mind, though, that the higher you level, the more likely are piercing weapons to overtake the bladed ones, since piercing damage is based on DEX which increases more often than STR. As far as your particular situation, it shouldn't cost too much to find out, just buy a regular broadsword (11 dmg.) and try your backstab and see. 61 max does sound low for a lev 13. I predict you will get slightly better results, but if not you can sell it back and the whole test will only cost you half the price of a broadsword, which isn't all that high. Alternatively, if you can find someone who trusts you enough to let you borrow their blade for a test that may work too. You can offer to give them something of yours as collateral. Finally, if you haven't put any points in Celtic Dual, you can try putting a few there (not too much) and getting a good second hand weapon. I find that my left hand stiletto does significant amounts of damage during a backstab, and it's chances of hitting are actually pretty high (my dual wield skill is 3 which is a bit less than half my level).

hope this helps some.

another question do we get parry?
# Oct 24 2001 at 4:56 AM Rating: Default
if not how are we to ever use the leaper attack as its needs a parry as an opening?
ok can we have SOME measure of equality ???
# Oct 24 2001 at 4:49 AM Rating: Default
just want to point out that pincer which is our lvl 12 spec skill is a medium damage bonus attack,, so is the blade skill glowing blade which is blades 10th lvl spec.. both need to hit from the side

the difference? glowing blade does an average of +25 to its victims while our pincer does an average of +5!?????? common!!!!! this is an utterly useless attack for us at lvl 12 spec!
RE: ok can we have SOME measure of equality ???
# Oct 25 2001 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
Pincer isn't lvl 12... it's lvl 8. It's also low fatigue cost and at level 11 I'm hitting for 15ish on oranges and reds. Pincer is a good attack, and I use it in almost every group battle.
Do you need Weapons, up for BS?
# Oct 24 2001 at 1:01 AM Rating: Default
Do you need to be good in the weapon your using to get a backstab on someone? it would sem like a waste, haveing to raise the weapon skill, and the critical hit skill.
The wait...
# Oct 20 2001 at 11:08 PM Rating: Default
It's a risk/reward sort of paradox.

You know how many people, back when EQ was coming out, wanted casters to have a disadvantage in the early game, simply so they could get the kick butt spells later on?

This is that, but on a smaller scale. In order to truly to appreciable damage, you have to strategize, which may involve NOT using a style until it has complements that overshadow your previous "line".
Backstab 2 negates backstab attacks?
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:46 PM Rating: Default
I have recently goteen backstab two and was VERY happy with it untill i realized i can no longer use eviscerate or Puncture kidney with is as it needs backstab first (which backstab 2 appparently does not count as).

This is terrible! This basically means i have gained nothing at 10th as i still do more using the original backstab with the othr attack combo, PLUS i get the bleed from the puncture.

Is this meant to be this way? and if so why?
RE: Backstab 2 negates backstab attacks?

You'll find you'll actually be doing close, if not higher with BS2. Moreover, right after you BS2 you can then go into a wasp's sting for bleed damage, then hornet's sting if you have it, it appears that you cannot, but do it, the mob has turned around graphically, but the mob is still considered to be stunned and facing away from you technically. Or, you can whirl around the side and go for a pincer if you have your strafe timing down.
