Well so far my RM is lvl 11 with all points in RC so far (9) i hve 21 pts to use but BT is so far away and i want to solo and at least kill yellows and a few oranges(which i do with RC @ full spec) but still be usefull to a group with my dd's. Oh what ever shall i do?

For all you people starting up a Runemaster here it is. You have two main options that is no doubt the best way for a runemaster to spec, they are both great ways to level and has a great end RvR.

1.)Runecarving:47 Suppresion:26 Darkness:5. Runecarving at 47 will give you the final bolt and the only thing above 47 runecarving is the 3rd energy debuff at 48...although would be usefull for your bolt the first PBT(Pulsing Bladeturn),10 seconds,is well worth that lost. The 5 in Darkness is just left overs and it gives you a mini DMG buff...why not? For this path I suggest you full spec suppresion until level 40 and respec Suppresion to 26 putting any other points into 47.

2.) Suppresion:50 Runecarving:19 Darkness:7. This is simple and effective route. Suppresion 50 giving you the 6 sec. PBT and the level 50 DD Snare, you might not think suppresion is good for RvR but the level 50 DD+Snare is well worth it. Remaining points into 19 RC for GTAoE(Ground Target Area of Effect) good for uncovering stealthers and only that with 19 points in RC. Remainders into Darkness because no good cause for 20 RC and ya can help out any level 1 with your small DMG add.

Although I made it look like I overlooked Darkness, it does contain the BEST DD for runemasters, Runecarving supplies a great AE DD which is used much more often in RvR and will prove more effective then you can think.

for rvr which is better, rc or dark, overall that is.
id like to know where i should put my points at. i like rc , but i dont see the point of darkness. also for soloing which is best. soloing is very important to me. at lvl 20 i cant solo a friggin green, i have 15rc, i forgo tthe rest though , but that will br remedied, i just cant seem to do enough damage, i get about 5-6 spells off before its on me and i only do a 1/4 damage. i think my problem is that im wearing lvl 42 and lvl36 items, im fixing that right now though

Theres 3 ways to build a good runie, the 1st is 50 suppression, u get 6 sec pbt but not so good dmg, u get the baseline bolt on RC tho.

50 darkness is pretty nice, much dmg and 2.0 sec cast time.

26 supp / 47 rc gives u the best bolt and the best ae spell. And 26 supp gives u 10 sec fend.

the 2 last alternatives is imo the best way to go if u gonna rvr much.

I have read alot befor I made my choice as a suppresion runie, I am lev 22 now on gawain and I have to tell you I am a bad **** in a diferent way. I may not dish out the mega damage, but let me tell you what I have found.
1. It isnt that hard to solo, yes I cant take on orges, a few I have but with the snare x 3 then root and run and snare till dead I do damn well.
2. In a way I feel I can negate damage, so I am a non aggro healer, also gives the healer chance to not use as much power while healing a tank figting a grape. I have impressed and saved alot of healers by useing my BT(runie fend).
3.My damage on stuff is not too powerfull so I can chain cast and not draw aggro.
4.I did take dark to 5 for the damage buff, though I kinda let down by it cause I can't buff thanes that have theres already casted. But warriors and zerkers, and skalds like it.
5.Now for the fun part RVR. I didn't know my full potential till plating in BG.
I can cast my AE snare spell to give the group that running start if it looks like a bad situation.
6.Huggins affliction or watever you know wat I talking about, If a person is locked on a fellow middie, I cast and they have to retarget them.
(sounds like no big deal, but I got a hunter to and when I start charging with my spear I dont think to look down at my box to see if I still targeted I take it for granted. Well they do too.
7.The best spell I like so far as an offensive is the 2300 range blind spell. And it last 2 min. I can cast from a good safty and ruin an archers day or mages. Tho they do like to send assasins at me shortly after so have your trusty SB close by. I casted it on a albie healer and he had to get closer to rez his people on hill by there PK and since he had to get closer a good stealthed hunter taught him a lesson.
8.One more important thing to mention is with the blind and doing a relic raid, having a high suppression runie can basicly take the archers on top out of the picture making it easier for the ram to do its job. Though I havnt tried this yeat it is what inspired my to go with a high suppression runie. Still got a bolt from RC base that ain't to shabby either.

All 3 runies have great potential have fun with it, and beware I know there is one enemy class that gets blind too, lets hope they keep thinking its not worth putting on the spell bar.

My thought on taking a mage class spec to 50(MAX)
if ya want to do it It can have its advantages to, there are thing out there higher than lev 50 and the plus skills will let you do max damage and less resist. Take a WoW for instance.

Help out your lobies too we all were one once and now that you getting that good loot from DF share the wealth with those grey starters in Alta, Mularn, and Vasude, quiker we get them up levs the more we can dominate RVR. I know a few GP when I was lev 2 got me to 6 alot quiker.

Why do people keep calling it RC. in game the spec line is called Destruction. Just wondering. I plan to spec to 10 in supp to get the friend BT, then pump up detruction, then on to the 47/26 ratio. Just my 2cp worth. At lower levels there isnt a huge difference between level based and spec based bolts, and the blade turn and DD snares have saved my **** numerous times :)

Ok, I know I probably should have done more research first and specced supp first. But its too late and I don't feel much like starting over. I'm 100% specced RC at level 15. I want the final spec of the ever popular 47/26

My problem is that I'm not sure what is a good level to start putting some points into supp. Right now, I'm afraid of taking anything from RC because I spend all my time soloing doing kill tasks. I plan to solo all the way to 20 because I can zoom through levels 1 an hour from kill tasks. I'm afraid spending points on anything but RC will gimp my ability to easily kill yellows and some oranges.

So from anyone thats done something simliar, can you give me some good advice on when to start speccing Supp? Like is 20 a good level or 30?

I am also specced full RC, but I'm level 5. Doesn't mean I don't know anything, but I haved talked to several people. In my opinion speccing in surpression before you get your extra points is somewhat useless because you may at lower levels hurt your solo ability. Do not spread your points early as it will gimp you until higher levels. Unless you stop speccing full RC and go straight to sur. you wont matter in groups until way later, and IMO runemasters are better nukes then for pulsing fend because it doesn't come until higher levels, so your better off full RC and spec sur. at higher levels. Also most people spec 47 adn 26, and pulsing BT isn't worth speccing full surpession because when your groups take higher monsters, most will just break stright though the BT, so unless your in a small group its a little useless unless your high 40s in RvR, then it makes a difference, but I wouldn't spec Sur. until you get to 40.5 and up then just spec RC to 47 and put extra points into sur.

Just an fyi the supp nukes are just as hard as the rc nukes. The highes supp nuke actually outdelve the rc nuke. If u want to solo a lot sure rc bolts do more dmg, but sayin that a rc runey adds more to a group because he out nukes is silly. RC bolts are very hard to use in groups because they are almost always blocked by fellow attackers. So you will find yourself having ot use your dd's instead. These are roughly similar to the supp dds. So basically a suppression runey brings just as much dmg and ghetto healin thru mad bubble dmg prevention.

Plus in rvr with armor absorb and shield blocking bolts are also highly situational in usage. The bolts really only exceed at killing other casters and the occasional rogue. RC line really needs some love(debuffs are a joke).

In absolute agreeance with the statement about debuffs. totally f-in useless. thanks again for screwin midgard mythic. heat debuff....NO ONE IN MIDGARD HAS HEAT BASED SPELLS! all our stuff is energy. and the fact that it only last 30 secs...boooooooo. matter wouldnt be too bad for the shaman ae dot, if only the debuff was ae. thanks for the waste of pixels mythic.

and about the bolts....for some reason, scouts, which are one of the 2 classes we *should* excel at, take less damage from bolts. not sure why, havent seen any notes on it, but the same bolt that does 400 to a caster or melee w/o shield will only do 280 or so to a scout.

LOL - where the hell did you learn how to write? Your sentences are like 1000 words each but I think I got your point and I TOTALLY disagree.

The way to go is 50/50 in RC and Suppression if you want to XP in parties. The runic fend is excellent. It's true that higher level mobs every now and then penetrates the fend but it's far from often.

It all depends on your abilities to find parties and your style of playing the game. I prefer XP in parties for 2 reasons: 1) it is MUCH faster and 2) it is much safer.

My runie is level 36 now with 26 pts in suppression and 24 points in RC. My nukes does excellent damage which is sometimes 130+ in purple mobs and on top of that I have the pulsing fend.

I have no idea why ppl want to solo that bad. I can only see one reason and that is because you have trouble finding parties.

This is how I distribute my points:

1) RC to lvl 6
2) Supp to lvl 5
3) RC to lvl 10
4) Supp to lvl 10
5) RC to lvl 17
6) Supp to lvl 26
7) RC to 47

Well... I have no idea whether this is the ultimate way but it has worked out great so far.

I have been playing a runemaster on Kay for a while (35) and have speced rc to 34, supp 2, dark 6, i plan to get darkness up as my alt...

But anyway the reason i was posting this was to mention that even runic ward stops the med-high mobs in the epic zone, but the second hit will kill u outright :( J

ust thought i'd mention this as i will be alting darkness with a dash of supp for the ward.

Dwarves have higher Con, Kobolds have higher Dex. Want more HP or a higher vital stat? I would put most of your points in to Runecarving. I believe that Runemasters are the only ones with Bladeturn in Mid so some points should be put in to Suppression up to spec level 26 to get the 10 second recasting blade turn.

Put 5 pts into Dex and the rest in to Piety for starting stats.

I'd like to know how many of us use this spell and what you're opinion is. I have 12 in dark and use the Ravenbolt on mobs as they are incoming. This generally doesnt pull aggro (from a skald shout at least). Then I let loose with my DD. It -seems- to me that I can hit purples more often after the ravenbolt has landed. I'm assuming that ravenbolt is still a general resistance debuff. I know it used to add 10% to the dmg my DDs did, then it decreaed it, now it does not affect dmg at all. I group with another runey who says he cant see a difference after i cast it, but he's a couple lvls higher than me in RC and maybe gets resisted less anyway. Anyone have thoughts on this?

How Confusion Works in RVR

The only real benefit to confusion in rvr is that it clears the casted on target's target. Meaning a Hero comes running at you with you targeted. Cast confusion on him and he will have to select you again cause he just lost you as his target. Works best when in big groups. With the chaos going all around and people selecting someone to go attack rarely will they notice right off the bat that they are just standing next to the guy the originally targeted getting beat down cause they no longer have a target. Hope this helped.

I completely forgot about one lil thing about suppression.

for all of those who went rc you might wanna consider switching to suppression to 26

reason being the shield stacks. =p
say you got 2 runies in group (rare) but say ya do (i have a runie hunting partner who is also at 26 suppresion) you cast your shield first the second runie casts his shield 5 seconds later. bing bam boom suddenly you got a 5 second refresh shield instead of 10. You can see where this going.... if you had 2 runies at lvl 45 suppression (6 second shield) that's a 3 second refresh shield. first of all 2 runies with 45 suppression = prolly not gonna happen very often if at all. but if ya did have a runie partner with that well let's just say all the people in your group would kiss the ground you walk on. cuz um healers would cast ...once or maybe twice. (some mobs have a double attack)
now this is for all suppression runie. at high 30's and low 40's if you have trouble getting a group go to the bridge in spindhalla. Sit at the tunnel entrance to undead trolls(leads to kalf) confuse a mob to your far right multiple times if necessary if it fails when it lands pound on your strongest dd while he engages other mobs and just do more damage to him than them. Don't worry about agro cuz they are neutral. The adds wont' come for you they will just help you kill him. in this way it is pretty much a cake walk to lvl a few times to your mid 40's. you dont' even need to duo. You can if you want (healer recommended for stuns and purity) I wouldn't do this too much though cuz it gets real boring (easy) this is just for suppression runies who have high suppression and high lvl confusion otherwise if it's jsut you and the mob he will come straight for you haha. There is an alternaive. If you have a partner. have him sit at the entrance leading to the other ekypts. confuse a mob and make him run in between you and him and just pound on your dd. Pretty easy to duo this way with low to mid lvl confusion. (dangerous also at times since who he attacks is random) This is reallly a tactc one should use with high lvl confusion. I'm hoping they make confusion work in rvr if it doesn't already.

You are a fool.. that said, let me explain why. EVERY Runemaster with any sense in his head already gets Suppression up to lvl 26.. they simply leave Runecarving at 47. You also mentioned getting Suppression as high as lvl 45... I doubt many Runemasters in their right minds would consider doing such a thing. The damage output would be pathetic as compared to someone specced in RC, thus making you no more useful than a Warden or Theurgist but also making you weaker as a soloer... If you truly want to have the Bladeturns above everything else, the Runemaster is not for you. Get a Theurg.

Okay well first off i've read all these posts and it's interesting. Here's a few things you may not know.

a. there is a staff in vanern swamp which gives plus 6 to runecvaring but not your typical 6 points , 6 REAL points of rc you get skills with it. they are off reincarnated orms if you want to go get one. was previously unequipable but they fixed it i believe. This btw is the only item i konw of that gives 6 real spec points (opens up skills).
b. Knowing this, you dont have to take rc to 50 you only have to take it to 44. but you don't have to take my word on it. =p
c. I currently have 2 runies. one is an rc runie lvl 41 the other is a suppression runie lvl 21. If you want to know the best way to lvl an rc runie the best way imo is to take his suppression to 26 first. Reason being that when you get into spind at 30 it is extremely hard to get a group as a runie (as usual) the chant shield just makes you alot more desirable =).
d. For the guy who wanted to know more about other paths. I will tell ya what i've found out.

One day my lil kobie runie was at the bridge in spindhalla ( this is where neutral mobs, scavengers, are) he was just messing around one day and decided to try his lil old hands at soloing an orange mob (suicidal no?) so he sat there thinking for a while how can he a puny lil kobie take out this big oogly mean bug. He opened up his lil ol spell book and decided to try a spell he rarely ever used if at all...Confusion (hugin's line in suppression) so he chose the furthest mob away and tagged him. Lo and Behold to his great surprise this mob started runnin across the bridge athim....butnot before....he hit every single mob on the way over to him and staggering around in between. The lil kobie sat on his ledge (the one to undead trolls) and laughed his lil feet off as the scavenger was beaten to death by his own fellow bugs. Lesson learned....Confusion kicks much buttocks in soloing. High lvl confusion makes other mobs your friends =). Hence this is why I have made a second runie. Now i've heard a nasty nasty rumor that confusion doesn't work in rvr i have not confirmed this yet....but so far some friends of mine have told me the hibbies can't use charm either. I'm hoping they'll fix this for rvr and i really hoep it's not true. Either way.

Now i don't have a Darkness runie. But i'm thinkin of making one. Cuz i would have to agree with one of the other posts about it. Damage wise they would pretty much own a rc runie. Rc runies are good for show though =p. face it darkness looks like a lil girl in graphics compared to the manly steel of rc =p. but we all have our preferences.

when ya do go to spindhalla and you are wondering about gear. here are a few things to look for.
1. Runic Ember (plus 35 lvls to dark,supp,rc)
2. Twisted Darksteel Bracer (plus 2 dark supp and i think some piety like 3 )
3. Retainer's ceremonial Ring (plus 2 dark supp and i can't remeber what the last stat was )
4. Obviously the armor there =p. too many kinds to list for various lvls.

the staff and bracer aren't all that rare the ring and certain armor pieces.....i would rate as pretty freaggin rare. Took me a fair amoutn of time to get 2 rings. soloing the bridge and kickin yleg's butt. (that's who drops it) your other choice is to move on and go to vanern swamp and kill the hagbui camp. they drop what yleg drops i believe. (or vice versa depends how ya think about it. =p)

Hmm i have a lvl 40 runemaster, i can confirm that those confusion spells do NOT work in RvR, no spells that make people lose control of their character can be cast in a hostile manner on another player in daoc....because losing control of your character is no fun :p

Level 24 spec in Runes of Destruction gives you the kick-*** flamin' spear spell.

I have played a runemaster to level 30 and have not once met another who spec'd in anything other than maxxed (47-50 whatever) runecarving and 26 suppression (for the regenerating fend). Thats what I'm doing as well but I'd like to know anyone else's opinion who is not going this route.

I know some dark DD's have lower casting times but by how much? I've read the spell descriptions on these boards and only foudn 2.8 secs yet in the game I've heard someone say they had a 2 second DD. Any confirmation about this? If it's true then spec'ing in darkness would not be such a bad idea...chain casting a 2 second DD (twice the casting rate of bolts) would be devastating.

I have decided to go to 50 in suppression actually. I enjoy solo kiting oranges, its a way of life for me now, so I'm not going to change. Unfortunatly when guarding a fort last night and the only one who seemed to be able to do any damage to the enemy I wished I had more in runecarving for harder AE nukes. I am still going to press on with suppression and hope the confusion spells will work almost as well, but in a more devious manner.

Yes there is what i like to call a spammable dd in darkness whose casting time is 2.8 seconds. The reason i dont use the darkness spec is simply because of RvR. The odins aoe spells just cant be replaced for that purpose...

While we're on the topic though....i dont think a runemaster who takes supression all the way to 50 would be exactly terrible either...a snaring dd and a fend every 6 seconds? Doesnt sound bad to me at all, for RvR or normal hunting.

Ok, I think I'm posting it here first. I'm disappointed with darkness, does not suck in RvR. As a matter of fact, it's quite powerful. Let's look at stats. 37 bolt does 232 at a very long range...that has it's purpose. It also has a long delay. the Darkness level 37 does 174...well, it's not as much, but you can cast more than a half dozen of them before your bolt regens. gotta get closer. This, however, is not always bad. A lot of people are advocating a runemaster sticking "in the pack". Being right up there with the fighters. At that range, the darkness DD works just fine.

I say this because I had some experience with it today. I _hammered_ a highlander for more than 700 total with mere level 33 shadow blasts. I could not approach this with bolts or AoE. It was very fast, and he was pissed because he pulled an archer off to shoot my *** ;)
