is this a piercing only crit list or can i backstab w/ a sword too

I've paid close attention to keeping this skill trained nearly every time I lvl...yet it fails more then id like. Don't get me wrong...when it works I enjoy the damage and follow up styles that come after it, but man..ive gotten the "You must perform Backstab to make this style work" message way too many times...after I started with the Backstab skill <while in stealth mode of course>. High lag...not perfectly positioned to back..and mobs who stand still only for a millisecond make this a tough skill to depend on alot..at least for me...I use it as much as possible..but have grown used to it not going well. Not a big deal when I'm adequately grouped..but soloing can be a bit tricky when this sucker fails.

Yes, you have to be stealth to use this skill and you back to attack from behind.

Anyone know if you have to be in Stealth mode to actually use this? Seems that way
