to use engage you must select a target and press engage, if the target has been under attack by you or another you will get hit 2-3 times before engage starts to work. Also you cant engage a mob unless its attacking you and no one else is attacking it.
engage is good for blocking spells and arrows, though when blocking spells you rarely block the spell 100% you almost always take damage.
just remember when using engage you are out of the fight and you use a wee bit of endurance.

btw sorry for the typoes i surely made :)

I have used this successfully numerous times at the parth farm, it is awesoem.
I would engage one parth, while the other 7 party members would quickly kill the other two parths, leaving me and mine alone unitl the other two were finished. This is the way it should be used.

From what I've read on this skill, it is used to engage one target from getting involved in the battle, at the expense of tying you up as well. You cannot have hit the target or attack anything else while engaging something. I have used it successfully even during a mob attack when other mob members were hit before I used engage. The whole time I engaged the monster it just stared blankly into my eyes like a puppy dog (however it was a lower level creature 8^P).

The way I understand this skill, it is as an opener or a way to get across that large field to an archer without being made into a pin cushion. If the mob has been hit even once, it will not work. It must be used before attacking the mob.

Well, I'm sure when and how to use it :( Who should I be targeting when I activate it? I tried it tonight when I was fighting a creature (so it was my target) And the info window kept saying something like '<mob name> has been under attack, it cannot be engage now!' what does this mean.

Any idea?

I was playing with this skill this morning, and it seemed as though mob casters would charge when i brought up Engange. Thus, I was able to pull casters without having to run to them. I'm not sure if this is the way it's supposed to work. (For that matter, I haven't done extensive testing, either, but the little that I did use it, nothing cast at me.)
Interesting point, though, trying to use Engage on one while attacking another...I might have to check that out. ;)

Blocking arrows would be usefull. i suppose it doesnt block spells. I couldnt attack while using this skill. I couldnt use it on a mob that had been hit.

i am having trouble seening a use for this. if you could engage one while hitting another that would be sweet.
Who can benefit?

I've used this when I was getting attacked once while soloing and it effectively blocked all incoming attacks, however can I only use it to block attacks coming at me or does it block the creatures attacks period? (seeing as you target the creature)

Since the description lists it as a melee "crowd" control tool, I'd suggest it blocks 95% of ALL attacks, not just from those you've targetted. Haven't tried it yet, though.
Arrow blocking..

This also affects blocking incoming arrows if you're facing the shooter and using the skill in combat mode...
