Use Common Sense in Barrows, Please
# Jun 28 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
It never ceases to amaze me how a group of relative neophytes can come to Barrows and expect to live long and prosper. I spent about 2 hours last night as an "observer" keeping a group of high level 20's..low 30's alive. They made all the classic mistakes from more than one puller to mana drain by their healer. I actually got drained of mana a couple of times keeping them alive!! As a Cleric I am bound by the Church to help and assist all who come my way but implore those who do to please use a bit of common sense and responsible judgement. Maxiuus, Level 50 Cleric

Start a char and work on it to make it your own you lazy SoaB!

I can never stand these people that dont want to work for the respect and honour of being a great character and leader.

You want to rvr? why?
You have to play a character from scratch to fully understand the variety and options your opponents have available and to truely know your strengths and weaknesses.

Suck it up and get your own character to defend our realm!

Templar
# Mar 15 2002 at 5:54 PM Rating: Default
For those interested in a quick but pretty death, try casting an aoe spell in range of a Templar. We had a full group ranging between 35 and 42 and were wandering about the barrows looking for a campsite. Decided to take out a vig or two while we decided where to go. We were midway through killing him when another added...one of our more ignorant clerics chucked out an aoe mez. The templar happened to be in range. He and his 2 buddies had our whole party lying facefirst on the floor within 10 seconds. The light show was very impressive though.

Barrows Notes
# Jan 29 2002 at 10:21 AM Rating: Good

It's not NEARLY as bad as it used to be in Barrows any longer. The item rush is pretty much over. The 30 to 40 crowd is still fairly thick but then again, it's one of the better places to go if you're in need of equipment drops -and- quality exp. A level a night in here is -normal- post-30.

Some notes to the tanks and melee fighter classes:

Unless you're a healer or a caster, 30 is the minimum you can fight effectively in here. I'm a tank - so I speak from experience. Stop coming in at 25-28 thinking you can get a group, because it flat-out isn't going to happen and if it does, it's because the people you're grouping with are morons.

Don't even THINK of trying to be main tank for your group if you're wearing green or grey armor. (Vindicator). You will not be main tank for long, you'll be a cleric's powersink. Buy yourself some decent Adamantium to flesh out your set and -then- you can fight well in here. I still see 33+ armsmen in here wearing Vindicator and they get torn to pieces. The lowest mob in Barrows hits for over 100+ every time and if your AF isn't making them miss you will drain your clerics of power on every pull.

Leave your n00bness at the door please. In Barrows the mobs hit TOO DAMN HARD to tolerate idiots.

1. There is ONE PULLER in a group. The instant someone else decides to pull or "just go looking" is when the group wipes out. (Why is it the idiots always go and pull just as the main puller pulls? Gah!?)

2. USE /ASSIST ! Crowd controllers like minstrels, sorcerers, and smite clerics are there to stop the adds, NOT YOU. "/assist PullersName" is the ONLY way you choose your target in Barrows. To break mez is to die.

3. No cleric, no pull. Cleric AFK, no pull. Period. End of discussion. You pull when the cleric is AFK your *** will be disbanded so fast your head will spin.

4. Speaking of pulling when the cleric is AFK - stop being impatient. Check your group screen and look at the power levels of your casters - if they're all at half or better you can probably pull. If they're below half DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

Hopefully some up-n-coming players will read the above and take it to heart. I don't bank on it though. Too many idiots out there prefer to lose more exp than they earn... *sigh*

I aggree whole heartedly with everything you just said.
The fact that people that obviously dont understand these concepts, im at a loss to know who you even got to a high enough level to even consider entering the place.
By now everyone should have made the mistakes and learnt from them.
If you havent....KEEP THE HELL AWAY FROM MY HUNTING AREA! I dont want to -or my companions to- suffer from your stupidity!

Nothing personal =)
RE: Barrows Notes
# Apr 09 2002 at 11:51 AM Rating: Default
How about this. I was tank. Cleric got hit a few times before I can taunt him off. I was at 10%, he was at 30%. One mob left hitting on me. Guess who he healed with his last breath of power? =(

Then 2 mobs jumping on me for about 80 a hit. I was again at 10%. Guess which heal spell he cast on me =(

I played a dwarven healer to 42 before my friends decided to move to albion lancelot so I havn't level my healer on nimue since then. But after 42.3 levels, I know I can be an effective healer/mezzer. There's no excuse for not healing in Albion. You can BUFF just as well, if not better. You heal just as well. You smite....... STOP SMITING IN GROUP AND HEAL YOUR TANKS (pardon the caps) You wanna nuke? one word... "wizard"

From my experience
1. Heal with the big normal line heal. Everytime a tank is at or less than 3/4 throw him a heal. Whether I'm a tank or a healer, I'd like to see the pattern -- tank drops to 3/4, tank up to full, tank drops to 3/4, tank up to full.

2.Minor heal? I may have used that 10 times during my leveling career. it's only good as "topping off" but you don't need to do that unless the mob hits so hard that 30 extra hp will help safe a thank. If the mob hit that hard, maybe you shouldn't be there in the first place.

3.You better damn learn to keep track and use those instant heals. sure you can be out of mana and use instant as extra boost. But a truly great cleric will safe lives in a more "unexpected" beat down by the mob on the tank. people make mistakes, a good cleric can correct that mistake.

4.This applies not to just barrows and was mentioned already and not related to clerics(usually). One puller! Groups with more than one puller will eventually get wipe out when the "second" puller pulls at the same time as the real puller.

barrows is not even close to over camped
# Dec 29 2001 at 1:56 PM Rating: Default
Barrows is great for 30-40 or so. It is far from the only place to camp and in fact there are rarely and 40+ in there anymore -- most are now in Pennines or Lyonesse.

It used to be that armor drops were regular here, but they have since dwindled to a trickle.

I have been in the Barrows 6 out of the last 7 nights and not only have i got my cleirc from lvl 30 to 37 (a little more than 1 lvl per night) i have a vault full of items, not to forgot the full Dissoultion armor i am wearing (not worn). Items are plentiful in the Barrows, you just have to be grouped with the right people and camp the right areas of the Barrows...

Level 40+

If you really think that the Barrows is the only place to level at the high end, I strongly suggest you do a [/who level 40 50] and see where people are. At least on my server, most of the 40+ characters are in the Penninnes.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 14 2001 at 10:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would like to see Dragons also. They are my favorite fantasy creature. I would like to see them in any capacity. Expensive, fast flying steeds would be cool.

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 11 2001 at 9:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) PLEASE someone who is level 40 or higher in this game post! I've been playing for a week, and I like it..but...by GOD! If this becomes EverFuq'd, the second coming, I'm going to be sorely sorely dissappointed.

As the first replier said there is 2 other over 40 spot... both have nice loot and on my opinion Penninin is the less pop area i haven't seen more than 50 peeps in barrows... you can find stuff with 72,72 and 92 af half if its cloth armor... there are lots of camp available... but the pop ones are vigs wights and celts all 40s and over... i never seen the 3 camp taken... Never... barb room is for lower levels... entrance is for solo... echoes is a bit higher than barb... there's also fallen warrior u need a all around group tho and exp is great... thats it... there s also Darkness Falls the new dungeon where u can hunt... thats it... ive played EQ till 35 and was bored to death...

You'll see u should like Daoc better... and for the dragons there is one by realm and you don't wanna mess with them... u really don't ;p Albs (us) where the first to kill ours. Woot Woot Albion. (tho my server wasn't the one who killed it but we keep seing pics about peep getting owned by the Dragon until somebody send the pic of the slain dragon of Albion can't recall server tho)

I have a couple 40+ chars in albion and I can tell you now that Barrows in not overly camped by us, at least on the server I play. Lyonese is a much more popular spot, with the fairly often raid on dartmoor. Pennine mtns are there too, but not as popular as lyon. Barrows are mainly there for those who want to get a small group and go hope for item drops. Some will do barrows for xp, but it is no where near the majority. I have never played EQ, so I cannot compare the two. However, DAoC is not a POS as you seem to fear.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 27 2001 at 5:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Please keep in mind, as well, that DAoC is still brand new. I'm glad they released it when they did and didn't wait for everything to get itemized and such. Some of the non-itemized dungeons, like Tepok's Mine, are great level grounds. Very rarely crowded and full of great xp. I'm sure you'll see a very different landscape with new items and dungeons within a year or so and I'm sure the expansion packs will bring many more interesting places to explore and hunt.
RE: for the love of..
# Dec 13 2001 at 8:09 AM Rating: Default
Well, either you want it like EQ or you dont.. first you complain that you dont want the game to be like EQ, and then you complain there are no dragons to kill.. think about what you are asking for...

Anyway, by no means is Barrows the only level 40+ place in the game.. sure its become more popular since it was itemised, but did everyone stop dead at 40 before? No. Lyonesse and Frontier both cater to the 40+ crowd.

Zadkiel.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 13 2001 at 5:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wanting to kill dragons does not mean he wants it to be like EQ. Are dragons a EQ only monster?...think about what you are saying...

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 27 2001 at 1:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) im in a guild, it is def not an all powerful one. in fact i am the highest lvl in it at 35 atm with the next closest at 32. no one else has hit 30. with attitudes like that maybe the game will be tough for you. yes you need groups, this is not a solo game. why woudl you play an online game to solo???

# Dec 03 2001 at 11:01 AM Rating: Decent
Not sure about the other servers, but on Gawaine, this place is becoming just about the only place to be, even though it isn't itemized. The XP here (especially at the Celtic/Wight camp) is unparalelled, so its really hard to get out and do anything else. Once this place is itemized, it will be a madhouse; I've seen 80 in there at times, so I can only imagine how bad it will be after itemization.
