I'm sorry all them obsticles will be such an inconvenience for you, but I'd be PROUD to take my son to have the same trials and grievances that I had growing up in Vanadiel. We could go explore together, and I would help keep his parties alive. We could do missions and whatnot together because it's NOT all about racing to 90 and getting the best gear.
So you would force him to take 9-10 months maybe more to be able to get to the point in the game he can come and join you on adventures. You do know that most jobs pre +75, are still useless in ~75 content right. That is a quick way to have him get bored of the game in hurry. Parties do not exist anymore. No matter how much you want to pretend they do. The best advice is to get him to level 30 let him come leech a Cleave Party, get him to 50, burn his limit quests, get him to 90.
Then go back and do adventuring with him.
Leaving him to struggle through 1-75, not getting into ANY content on the way is not how I would go about it. You can keep dreaming that people actually still do stuff outside of abyssea, but one day you will wake up. It is not about rushing to 90 and getting gear. It is about rushing to 90 so you can actually participate WITH OTHER PEOPLE in a game that is built around associating with OTHER PEOPLE.
Once he gets to 90 they can both go back and experience missed content, like mission lines, and events together. But if you want to have his son disliking the game in a month by all means keep suggesting this silly idea that his son should have to grind most likely solo 1-75 so he can "experience" what we all did when FFXI was one giant slow *** time sink. Furthermore, you want Tech to protect his sons parties, why not just go all out and level him as quickly as possible, since that is essentially what PLing is about. A few Cleave burns and he will be able to experience the real game, not the grind.
Tech don't listen to this nutcase. Get your son up as quick as possible to a useful level (75+) so he can adventure with you. Unless I misunderstood when you said playing together. All he will miss is 75+ levels of boring grinding that will likely cause him to lose interest in the game. Especially in the current state of minimal exp groups, lack of interest in anything from 2003-2009.
