What's a fast way to solo level quickly, at higher levels?Follow

I'm now 76, and have burned out on the whole "Golden Path" overland zone thing, doing the quests that are found in various places. There's just too much running around to do, that I spend less than a third of the time actually doing things that get me XP. And grinding overland zone mobs is too slow (mainly due to lack of mob density).

What's the fastest method to level for a decently equipped, mostly master and expert spell, inquisitor? When fighting in the overland zones, regular mobs are a joke, they die so fast, and double-up arrow yellow mobs are not a problem.

I assume instances and grinding are the way to go, but being fairly new to the game as it is now, I don't really know where to go. Don't have AoD yet, so no mercs, but that can be gotten if it's worth it. But with the ease I have mowing through mobs, I would guess sticking to heroic instances 3-5 levels below me, with no merc, is the way to go. Again, I just don't know where to go.

So, I'm open to suggestions. Where should I go?

Thanks,

Tat

IMO questing is still the fastest way to gain XP. EQ2's never been set up for the classic XP grind.

I'd suggest checking out Karnor's Castle, Chardok, and Sebilis. If you've never done Unrest before, grab a friend and give that a run-through, it's a great zone that everyone should experience at least once. http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Heroic_Progression_%28EQ2%29

I tried out the Palace of the Awakened the other night, and made about 40% of a level in under 2 hours, which is way quicker than Kunark questing has been going lately, with all the time wasted running around.

PotA turned out to be perfect, since I was 76, and nothing was grey yet. Also, I was doing the quests in there. I was able to go through the whole zone (first time, so got lost a few times), and was able to take out the boss. Very fun.

Tried Karnor's last night, and died almost immediately. Definitely not ready for that one yet. Nothing in PotA gave me any trouble at all. I found a few zones between the two on the timelines listed here and on the wiki, so I'll try some of those out.

Karnors is definitely a challenge. I like to think fondly of Kunark dungeons as "those places where you get hit like a freight train." Smiley: lol

Well, "Kunark dungeons" and "trains" ARE right next to each other in the EQ dictionary :)

If you really want to XP fast try to get enough people to be able to do heroic stuff it will be amazing faster or you could try Chronomagic Missions.

I am kind of in the same situation. I am currently 82 with my Berserker and pretty much burnt out on trying to do the basic solo quests. Feels like a lot of running around for the amount of exp gained. I find I have more fun soloing dungeons. I have always been a loot hog and I get really excited at seeing all those legendary and master chests drop. I can usually molo white/yellow ^^^ mobs or solo green/blue. Then again there are so many "OH CRAP" cooldowns for berserkers to quickly drop everything around you I normally survive most encounters.

I will admit WOW spoiled me on questing though. I really got used to having my hand held on everything. I don't have a problem with a quest taking some effort if its going to reward an above average quality item. But I don't go for spending all day on a quest just to get a handful of coin and exp that is equal to just solo killing a few mobs. I can't stand when I get a quest to kill 5 A_Burly_Badguy and all I can find are A_Regular_Badguy.

I've always quested my way through the levels. There are a couple of problem leves though, high sixties and mid eighties mostly. And the last two levels were a real pain, not a single quest anymore at that time.

Kunark had a lot of quests that required a heck of a lot of running for not much, but nothing can beat Ykesha imo on that front.

Instances are a good way to get xp and a lot of axp, but the best ones are definitely not going to be run without a group, or you have to grey them out and mentor down at the chronomancers. (imo anyway, I'm also just a monk, survivability is high, but taking mobs out isn't that great) Karnor is a very good one, but very hard.

I just did all of 85-89 in Stonebrunt, GD, and EW, basically doing ALL of those three zones. Just dinged 90 last night. I found them to be pretty easy, with lots of quests to carry you through. The biggest thing to make it easier, though, is a flying mount. Just point to where you need to go, and get there uninterrupted!

"And the last two levels were a real pain, not a single quest anymore at that time."

So I have all of Withered Lands, Cobalt Scar, and the two CoE overland zones to do. That won't be enough quests to get to 95, really? (only have about 24 AAs left to do, so that won't take up too much XP).

It'll help. Not all those zones were around when I went for 95, although there aren't all that many quests in Cobalt Scar. Some good questlines though, several named for some quick Axp.

Have you done all the older instances mentored down? Definitely good for axp, easy loot (only good for money, but that's always good).

A few instances, here and there. I noticed in the more recent expansions (SF, etc) that many have mechanics that make soloing/moloing very annoying. So I've been skipping them lately.

True, some require at least two people in the group, but not that many. It's the reason why I never did Unrest for instance. Have you done Halls of Fate? An old one, but easy to run through and a fair amount of named. Some of the loot is still worth a lot of pp. Most of the stonebrunt zone instances are quite easy too, even if they are a nineties zone.

I'm just sticking to the overland zones and quests. If they run out before I hit 95, I'll look into the instances then.

Halls of Fate doesn't ring any bells, don't think I ran across it. I did try one Erudin instance, but there was a mechanic I couldn't figure out how to get around (don't remember what it was, now). Same thing with Moors, first instance I tried needed a min of two people. Guess I just have bad luck picking the instances:)

HoF is in the Bonemire, center island.

The Moors does have instances that are not doable solo. Most are though.

How far are you with the quests?

Not very far, haven't played much this week.

I dinged 90 on Monday, and haven't done anything but Withered Lands since then. Have done maybe 10-15 quests in there, and have made about 25% towards level 91.

All "rest" XP (I forget what EQ2 calls it:) edit:vitality), 10% for "Gold Rush" buff, and about 1 hour with a 25% XP pot from tradeskill apprentice. No vet XP bonus, as this is my highest level char :)
