Is there any one place that has a good round-up of "viable" builds? Specifically those of the spellcaster persuasion?

According to any and all player on their official forums, there are two kinds of mage groups. People who are Daggerspell, and people who wished they went with Daggerspell...

I went with a Melee and a Tank for my characters, so i cant really comment on it in detail. But as far as i understand, as long as you get the first hit in as a Daggerspell, you win basicly. Unless you got unlucky and are up against someone with a very VERY specific class build that can break your crowd control abilities. But in such a build they wouldnt be able to fight back, just escape for the most part.

This http://arche-base.com/ website has a lot of class builds available. Most of which are, unsurprisingly, Daggerspell...

Example 1 off the top off the page, Daggerspell "godmode" build apparently

You can also build your own and see what combos it has to offer.

That said, despite having something like 83 diffirent combos you need to remember, they say Demonologist is a very good PvE class to take up too. And if played properly, rarely defeated. Not sure how viable it is against other players however.

I dont know, just pick what you think seems fun, roll with it, and if it doesnt work out or has some flaws, you can always change it around again.
That said though, i think the only things they say are viable mage builds out of the 120 possibilities are Daggerspell, Demonologist and in lesser extends Spellslinger.

Do people just make up the names for the classes or does the system assign a name based on your combos?

Each class has it's own name, based on the three skillsets you choose. Although some of the names on ArcheBase are made up.

Here's a list of the classes, the skillsets of those classes, and their names. http://archeage.gamepedia.com/Classes

Now how many of them classes are "just like [???]" ? Smiley: lol

honestly I love all the variety, that seems pretty neat but the line ups to get in the server, the pay-to-win and the lack of pve only or even pvp light servers is meh.

The crowds seem to be dispersing pretty quickly. I didn't play for a couple days but last night there was no waiting que when I logged into the server.

Actually that is because they reworked the AFK kick timer to 5 minutes and tightened up the rules. People are saying the queues are reasonable now.

With that improvement I think I will most likely check this out this weekend.

My bad I read info that it was 5 mins on another forum sounds like it's actually 25 in game and 5 at character select. Or something like that.

The WC?

Archeage was my weekend game. It's been a decent game. Nothing to complain about. Lots of options for travel, progression. Decent stories/quests.

The world is boring though. The towns/cities are nothing but quest giving, crafting spots. There's no differentiation between cities/towns. No pubs, no shops, no brothels, temples, jails or townhalls to enter - at least that I've yet found.

I got ganked once though. That was exciting. I was doing a quest where I had to paddle out in my recently acquired row boat to inspect an old wreck. After I found the wreck, I was paddling and diving around to see what else I might find underwater. I got into my boat after one such dive. I had sort of noticed this big, player-made boat in the area, but didn't pay much attention to it until a grappling hook grabbed my boat and started hauling me out to sea. I jumped out of my boat, but i guess I was too far from shore and immediately got the message I was 'drowning' though I wasn't actually underwater. Then i died, but when I spawned I hadn't lost any xp.

Smiley: glare

It is something that has stuck with me from FFXI. Sometimes I catch, other times (as we see) I do not.

You lose EXP from death? Can you down-level?

Sorry. Water-closet is good. Just as explanatory as 'bathroom'.

Yes, if you die from an NPC and don't get rezzed. You can buy the xp back with labor points in the form of a 'blessing'. (I have no idea how you get labor points - they just accrue at the bottom of my UI).

Not sure if you can delevel or not.

Labor points regen over time. For free players only when logged in. Discussed earlier in the thread when talking P2W or not.

Apparently you can also buy items to restore them from the game rmt shop. (Only what I read during my game research.)

Eek. I thought it was a harsh punishment in FFXI to lose hard earned EXP. It is why I've never had an issue with WoW or Repair cost in other games. Making money can sometimes be easier then getting EXP Smiley: lol

Geesh, in EQ not only did you lose xp, you lost your corpse with all your stuff too unless or until you could find it and retrieve it.

I never found one poor ranger body.

Last night I learned the penalty of multiple deaths. I was in a dungeon with a couple others trying to kill a boss. We died a lot.

Each time you die, your respawn timer gets longer. The last death I had to wait 25 seconds before I could respawn. Not a big deal unless you're in the middle of a boss- battle. I don't know if a rez from a player can by-pass that timer. I bet it can.

Actually, they messed up on the EU servers and the AFK kick timer was truly set to 5 minutes for a while. It was beyond rediculous. You got up to answer the phone, the door, get a drink or visit the bathroom for a second and you'd be back in the queue waiting to get in. Only happened to me once before i quickly put together an AutoHotKey script that hit the spacebar every 4 minutes >.>;

Yes, you lose EXP from Death. Yes, you can apparently level down though it hasnt happened to me yet. But at the lovely cost of a few hours worth of build up Labor Points (grrrrrrrr) you can have up to 90% of the EXP you lost restored to you at the Statue of Nui.

Since no one answered this yet, Yes. You can play a Shadowplay / Vitalism / Scorcery character in Plate Armor with Sword and Shield if you so wanted to have Stealth, magic, healing, tanky stuff.

But since your stats will be dependant on your gear and mostly your weapon, you wont be proficient at everything at the same time.
Only clubs have healing power on them, only staves and scepters have magic power on them, wearing plate you wont get any magey stats like INT or Spirit as well as 0 Magic Defense. Swords are fun, but have 0 healing power and magic power on them. You can -choose- everything, but you wont be great at everything unless you make some sacrifices and gear towards something specific.
