A friend of mine introduced me to this game a couple of weeks back. I did not think much about it until I tried it out for the first time yesterday evening. It was really fun! Very fast paced with lots of secrets, traps and massive amounts of enemies.

The classes differ greatly in playstyle and (my only gripe so far) viability.

Have started a solo adventure as a Priest and so far it's a blast.

Looks like a MMORPG Shmup.

It has some RP elements but not that many. You get the occasional permanent powerup as a drop from minibosses (for example +5% damage or +10 MaxHP) and you can buy skills or improvements for skills/stats from vendors but that's it.

You can play with up to 4 people but it should be doable if playing alone. I'm about 60% through the first (and longest) campaign. Although I just encountered a new enemy I'm not sure I can deal with with the class I have chosen. Will give it another try tomorrow.

I never played Realm of the Mad God enough to get the hang of it but that should be rather similar. Except Hammerwatch does not allow hundreds of players in the same game of course.
