SIster is back in town. Taxes have arrived. Payday is Friday. Countdown begins.

BTW, is there any reason not to get Windows 7 64bit? I ask because I'm installing a new comp at work and it came with 32bit, which made me wonder if it only did so because it's not a gaming rig in any way. Mostly just a general curiosity.

Don't go with 32 Bit, 32 bit can only read 4? gigs of ram (System + GPU combined). In todays market there is almost no reason to get 32 bit. Im honestly surprised they still make it.

That's what I figured. Was just curious. Also, the fact that this new work comp came with Office 2010 suggests that its OS is probably a bit dated anyway. Smiley: laugh

Workstations can probably get away with 32 bit to save a few dollars. Home/Gaming you would be severely limiting yourself. I would suggest checking the prices of everything atm deals/sales may have changed. I havent seen anything eye popping for a few days but I havent been looking.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances Im going to be moving cross country more then likely this weekend/next week and can't guarantee internet til I start school in the Fall, thats saying I can finance Non resident Schooling (5k difference). I mean the School is way better then the one I was originally planning in attending, but 3ish k tuition going to 8.5k really cuts into living expenses if I go full time like I was planning.

Looking at going to Bellevue Community College which is in Washington State, which is practically next to Redmond, WA where MS Campus and Valve are. So much more demand, but meh, Driving 2000 miles is going to suck.

That is one hell of a long drive. I'll double check prices before I order on Friday, but if anyone sees any deals on these parts or similar ones before then during your random browsing, let me know.

In case I can't do so once it's up and running(since you might not have net for a bit), I want to thank you in advance. Thanks again for all the help so far.

I'm putting together a quick spreadsheet to see where I'm at, and when looking up the current price on the A406-0560 case from the image up there, I can't seem to find it on Tiger. Is the A406-0561 comparable?

Also, any reason to shy away from this as my Optical Drive?

Edit: Currently at around $419, with the assumption that I somehow cannot get the Windows 7 student discount, but also not factoring in the cost of the optical drive and the shipping on that graphics card. Worst case scenario, looks like I'll be going about $70 over budget, which is more or less within acceptable parameters, since I can borrow from savings and pay it back during 3 Paycheck May.

Wow that Blu-ray drive is cheap. LG is Ok. No bad from me on it.

Might want to see if there is a different color faceplate one otherwise its going to look a bit weird. Black on White Case.

Might want to consider this case http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1636710&CatId=1842
29.99 On Sale 4 fans included, Lifetime Warranty with Registration. Tool less clips are nice and Its black.

Edit: Note That it is a Mid-Tower not a Micro-Tower. So if you took care of the case you could probably use it later when you upgrade to a bigger Motherboard. The White one you linked Is a Micro case so its much smaller. Im Still looking at the site cause I got bored with my game Ill see if anything else stands out as cheaper then I listed you.

Awesome. Will be nice to have a Blu-Ray for those days I really want to watch anime but the roommates are using their PS3s.

Apex Micro Tower Case + OEM 550W Power supply 49.99 (99.99 -40 instant -10 Rebate)

Commenters saying that it has a lifetime Warranty on the no name PSU. Its 50W less than the Corsair, and a non name brand, but 600 W is a tad on the high side for what youll be running in it. Might want to consider this.

The RAM I told you to get is off discount. Patriot Viper Extreme is 54.99.

Otherwise I saw the faster version Of the Corsair XMS3 for 52.99

Kind of up to you both Brands are good.

I Like Patriot, Supposedly all ram is Hand tested before being shipped. I currently have Patriot Extreme 3 Black Mamba in my current system. No issues.

HDD: Seagate Barracuda Drive 7200 RPM, 16Mb cache is 59.99 for 500 gig
Basic Drive, I prefer Seagates to WD Blues (Blacks are comparable) but I usually go for whichever is cheapest. But Unlike kao I never have anything super important so I dont care if my HDD fails. all my important stuff gets put on a 32 Gig USB flash drive or one of my 3 externals Ive amassed.

That AM3+ Biostar Mobo is sold out atm. You could go with The AM3 variant Here
Or make kao happy with an Asus That are on sale: Here

Edit:Sorry I keep editing and posting. Im just looking around for any things I see decent and double checking the prices I gave you a while ago.

Crap. Somehow my spreadsheet was missing the Mobo. Smiley: facepalm

With the changes though, still within price range if only barely. Edit: Actually, that's better than what I had entered. So back right around price range
Edit2: Shipping's going to run about $15 for 2-6 day ground and $35 for second day air. If I get the student copy of Windows 7(which assumes I can find a 64 bit copy of 7 at the student price), then I'll go ahead and do the faster option, but if not, I can wait a few more days. Now to hope that the discounts remain when I do the actual order on Friday.

I'm not a fan of signing up for trials and cancelling them. I always worry about hidden fees.

That said, parts are ordered. Should arrive around next Friday.

Okay, so not having built a PC in somewhere around a decade, anything I should know about since the parts should be coming in by about Friday? Last time I was going to do this(unexpected expenses came up and I had to cancel on it then), I was told that things are a lot easier than they were back then. Still the case?

Careful when putting the processor in to not bend any pins, make sure the Arrow on the corner of the chip and the board match. Make sure to get a good seat when you put the Heatsink on the CPU Chip, if possible grab a bottle of Arctic silver from a local computer shop , use that instead of the stuff that comes on the heatsink.
Otherwise just make sure everything is seated snuggly, I guess.

That part sounds about the same as I remember from back in the day, aside from the Arctic Silver.

If you do use arctic silver clean the pre applied stuff off with a little rubbing alcohol and a clean non fuzzy rag

I shall keep that in mind. Any major benefit to it over the stuff it comes with if I'm not going to be overclocking?

Not hugely. Overall better Heat dispersion, but you should be fine with stock paste if you have to.

part of that depends on your application skill too. if you get air bubbles in the artic silver, it will technically be worse than the stock stuff.

Ah, well I dumped Dex at character creation so I could buy up my Int and Cha, so that's probably not a good idea for me, then.
