The other day I got a FB friend's request from a name I hadn't seen since high school.

Scratch that, a name I hadn't seen IN high school.

It was a guy I'd gone to elementary school with - he was in first grade with me. I think we'd parted ways by middle school. I have no idea how or why he tracked me down on Facebook, other than perhaps mutual friends from our hometown. After a bit of head scratching, I said yes, sure, why not. He seems sane enough.

He's now set the record for "person I have re-established communication with that I also knew in real life for the longest time." He beat out a record held by my friend BB, whom I had met in 4th grade all county orchestra and later went to high school with. (She still is a way better violin player than I ever was. She could have gone pro but she went off and joined the Army instead, presumably because it paid better.)

Have you ever bumped into someone online that you knew before there was an Internet?

I made a topic a few years back (roughly) about a similar thing.

When I was in elementary school I lived next door to a family, and was friends with the young girl there. Then the Naval base that our parents were stationed at was closed, and we all moved away. This was probably 3rd grade, around 1993 or so. Then sometime in 2011 I got a FB friend request from her. She's a lot different these days than she was then. Beyond the Anorexia to Overweight, she's gone very religious. I think she's married to a Filipino man, (not 100% on his ethnicity, but his family owns some sort of restaurant/bar with Kapamilya in the name, and they all appear to fit the culture.)

And the husband's side of the family is HUGE on all that natural healing mumbo jumbo. She's constantly posting on Facebook about how sick she gets all the time (odd, none of that stuff actually stops her from getting sick) and her in-laws post in odd broken English about some natural healing "medicine" she should be taking that will make it all better.

I did try to find another of our friends after that. Another girl from our group of friends, to see what she was up to. Never found anything definitively her. All my friends from early elementary school were girls, all the kids my age in the neighborhood were girls, and they all had younger brothers about the age of my younger brother, so it just worked out that way. I played with barbies...

I've FB stalked some old friends from the past. I've only sent a message to one (with there never being a reply).
I get curious, and wonder how the people I knew grew up.
(2 were real close friends when I was a kid, but we kind of feel out after I moved back in 4th grade ('94). Growing up does that I guess. The other is a girl, who I had a major crush on when we were kids. It was because of her I knew I liked woman Smiley: lol)

I've never accidentally bumped into someone from my pre-internet days but I've had high school or elementary school classmates contact me via Facebook. Usual "How ya doing? Yeah, me too. Well, let's keep in touch!" stuff.

I keep getting emails from people from my past telling me how they have new web pages and how I must check it out. I seem to have known more people in high school than I thought.

I've gotten some FB friend requests from people I knew in High School, but I haven't accepted any. Most of them seem to have gotten stuck in the echo chamber and their FB pages make me nauseous. Besides, I like having only two friends, my sister and my daughter. I had a third but I ninja unfriended her one day when she was away on vacation. My FB page looks like it was frozen in time back in 2011.

That sounds like my facebook page. 2011 sounds like about the last time I updated it. Smiley: lol

There's a bunch of old people from the past on there. I started facebook right around a class reunion, so there's a bunch of people from the school days on there who never communicated much with me or vice versa. I was always too lazy to remove them.

I was a little bummed when I found the hot girl from high school on Facebook. Not so much by her (still attractive) but just that she only had like... two posts total. One comment in 2010, and one picture from 2011.

How am I supposed to relive my high school ************ dreams with just a single picture of her? Smiley: oyvey

Was her account set to private? The 2 post may not have been set, that is why you can see. Might have to send friend request...

No. It was just empty. A few people from high school had commented about it on the one post including her sister.
