And nothing about Superman and Batman's physique seems off to you? You're familiar with how the whole cartoon physique thing works, right? I'm not saying Gal Gadot looks bad - she's smoking - but when you look at the exaggerated physique of Cavill and Affleck, she seems too... ordinary.

I saw the 7p IMAX 3D showing tonight. It was very good. Better than Avengers? Nah. But its MUCH more different & way more funny.

Peter Quill/Starlord is fantastic & Chris Pratt could almost carry this on his own. Gamora isn't quite the badass she is in the comics, nor is Drax for that matter, but Zoey Seldana does a good job and brings more emotion to the character of Gamora than she usually shows in the comics. Drax is hilarious. As a comic fan, I kinda think he shouldn't be, but this is a James Gunn movie and he fits in perfectly with the MCU version of the GoG. Groot's great & Rocket is pretty much perfect. Seriously, I can't imagine a big screen version of Rocket Raccoon being any better than this version - he's smart, funny, emotional, & all around amazing. Michael Rooker as Yondu, in a mostly supportive role, is nothing like his comic counterpart - but its exactly how you'd imagine Michael Rooker playing Yondu would be & is badass.

The Nova Corp are kind of under utilized & while they look great, they are also not much like their comic counterparts either. John C Reilly & Glenn Close are great of course, but not in it enough to make the movie better than it is without them in it.

If anything suffers, its the villains. With all the time spent getting to know the main characters, there's no time to make the villains the least bit sympathetic. Ronan's an evil **** & he's Nebula's best chance of sticking it to Thanos which is pretty much her entire motivation. Thanos is in it for 5 minutes. Sure, its mentioned that he's pretty much the evilist guy in the Cosmos, but he really hasn't shown it in the MCU. Yet.

There are a few cameos, but this is probably the first MCU flick that someone wouldn't need to watch previous flicks to hop into. Its been said that GoG runs concurrently with the rest of Marvel Phase 2, but it doesn't really seem to tie into anything specific nor is there anything in it that seems to be leading into Avengers 2. The after credits scene pretty much has the least likely character in all of Marvel's cosmic line showing up & its funny.

GoG was the most fun Marvel Movie to date, & even if it isn't the best, it was very, very good. B+

Just got back from seeing it myself. I went in expecting a mesh between Avengers and Star Wars, and what I was presented with was Space Dandy and Empire Strikes Back. I pretty much agree with everything Vegeta said, but here's my additions and subtractions.

First off, I'm actually gonna say I enjoyed it more than Avengers. I felt all the main characters meshed much better here than Tony, Steve, and the rest. One could argue that it's because they're all big hero types so meshing would be difficult for them, but the egos in the Guardians are just as high if not higher. But the Avengers had the Hulk, who blew the that movie the hell up. GotG didn't quite have that.

The movie is highly referential. It pretty much screams "I'M AN 80s KID!" at you often and loud. It's funny and being an 80s kid it didn't take away anything for me, but it's pretty blatant. Not only that, but things and scenes at the beginning of the movie get brought back up at the end.

Chris Pratt was great, and he is Star Lord in the same way Robert Downey, Jr is Tony Stark. He nailed the character and I'll never be able to read the books without his voice from now on. But, I enjoyed Bradley Cooper's performance more. I felt Rocket really stole the movie, but Groot stole the ending.

Villains were mediocre, but the Nova Corp really suffered for me. I mean, for what they are they were great and this is entirely a "Comic Geek" nag on my behalf. Since it was mentioned, Thanos I feel was in the movie just enough to whet your appetite. I think more of him would have brought the movie down. I want him to be the ultimate bad guy once the Infinity Gems and Gauntlet are all brought together.

You might get whiplash from all the jokes. Fair warning, they come at you fast and hard. Blink and you miss a few.

But really, it's all Rocket and Groot here. They're all good, but to scale their quality I'd put them on top, followed by Quill, then Batista and end on Gamora. Not that she's bad, just the others were just that good.

Finally, the after credits scene. First, I think people are finally learning that there are after credit scenes. Only five people left during the credits before it started. Kind of impressed on that. As far as the scene itself, it was okay. It's more for the ultra-geeks in the audience, but laugh worthy. More so if you get it, of course.

Definitely worth a opening weekend watch.

I don't think you can pass off Gwen as a Greek Goddess. You can barely pass her off as feta cheese. Sheesh, there's white and then there's Paranormal Activity.

And yes, you should reschedule.

I'm disappointed because my local theater doesn't have any showings of this until 4:15pm. Usually they have a showing that starts around 12:30 to 1pm or so, the Theater opens at noon. I usually go to the first showing of the day because it's so early in the afternoon that it's rarely got that many people. And it gives me the rest of the afternoon to enjoy doing other things.

Not sure why they are treating this one so different.

Went and saw Guardians of the Galexy today since it was my day of. No spoilers, but I will say this. It was one of the more enjoyable Marvel movies I have seen recently, and I really liked it. I would go see it again.

The after credit scene is somewhat lame though.

I would liken it to the Shwarma scene in Avengers, just done by James Gunn.

Any of you, who maybe doesn't read the comics or know much about this Marvel title, seen it?

I'd like to go, but a broken ankle is getting in the way of things. I'd have to get my father to take me, and he is so freaking picky when it comes to movies. I don't want to listen to him ***** and ruin the "after" movie time, aka: the ride home.
He did like the last X-men movie, that kind of shocked me.

I knew very little about this particular comic, and you really don't need to know anything about the marvel universe to follow and enjoy the movie. About the only thing that was really a tie back to it all was (and this isn't realyl a spoiler but i'm gping to spoiler it anyways The whole Thanos thing and where he fits in the grand scheme of things. What it does have is lots of space ships, an interesting cast of pretty much unknown characters so they were able to have fun with it out of the gate. There was alot more comedy than you get with a typical Marvel movie, but it worked and it flowed well. The spaceships were cool, there were things that exploded, and the character development worked really well overall.

Its way more approachable without fore knowledge than X-Men: DOFP & more entertaining. If he liked Indiana Jones or Star Wars back in the day, he'll like GoG.

I just got back from watching it. I knew almost nothing of these characters going in, and enjoyed it. I think it makes it more enjoyable not knowing some of the "secrets" about the characters ahead of time.

Seemed very different than the previous Marvel Universe movies, I could see that throwing people off. A group of younger watchers in the audience were not too happy about the movie afterward, walking out they commented that it was OK, but were hoping that it wouldn't continue this way.

Post-credit scene was just a big "WTF?" moment, still not entirely sure how it fit or why it was what it was, I'll look it up sometime soon. The pre-credit scene was cute though.

I did find out why my theater didn't have a showing closer to noon. Apparently they were showing both the 3D and 2D versions in the same auditorium. So the 1pm showing was 3D, and then 2D at 4pm, 3D at 7pm, 2D at 10pm. Not sure why they did that. I ended up going to the 4pm showing and kind of regretted it. WAY too many little kids, including two brothers around 4-5 years old that sat right next to me, and their parents two rows behind... Those two little kids were annoying as hell. They kept talking directly to Rocket and Groot throughout the show. And then the mother, half way through the movie, came down a couple rows to ask her kids if they needed to use the restroom, very loudly, and they were ignoring her, so she kept asking over and over and over. Almost like the Stewie "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mum, Mum, Mum!" scene. Smiley: mad I usually go to the showing closer to Noon, it costs more, about 2 dollars per ticket more, but it rarely has any kids, and usually is pretty empty.

Clearly someone missed the 80s. That was Howard the Duck. If you missed the comics he was in, that could be forgiven, but pretty much everyone from the 80s has seen the god awful movie.

Anyway, as to GoG, it was good, not great, but good. The beginning felt rushed as they tried to introduce all of the characters and get some back story on them. Then the villain was just plain uninteresting, with no real personality beyond the typical angry vengeful all powerful guy schtick. It was a solid action movie with some good one liners and a couple of emotional moments, "We are Groot" for instance. It was a good way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. I'm hoping for more from the eventual sequel though.

So, what you're saying is, that in a movie full of humorous 80s references, a humorous 80s reference was out of place?

That particular one felt completely out of place.

Edit:
Not sure exactly how the movie was "full" of references though. Beyond the music selection, and a couple quick name drops from Earth, and one movie in particular, were there many outside of the Marvel Universe?

First off, my local theater got new chairs. They were of the lazyboy variety, complete with a foot rest, full reclining ability and two wide armrests (no more elbow wrestling with the person sitting next to you for the armrest). They each had two giant beverage or popcorn holders and a little movable table/tray thingy. They were quite comfy. Too bad the theater was freezing.

The movie was a lot of fun. Good jokes, good characters, good acting. There could have been a bit more evilness, and a lot more super-powerness. I hope/assume that will be coming. Rocket was an excellent character and Groot as well, but I really liked Drax. For once a wrestler with passing acting ability to go along with the muscle. Gamora's bit of back-story helped out her character. She, too didn't over-act the part, but seemed to ease into her warrior role. Yondu was a great character. I want his magic arrow. It was a nice change of pace to see Glenn Close play a 'good' character.

The wide-angle views of Xandar were gorgeous, but Knowhere was a really cool place. I felt a little like I was back on Tatooine. The little lizard-creature races were cool.

I didn't think the 80's stuff was over-done. The music was clearly a theme. I knew right off that the gift from Mom had a second mix-tape in it.

I'm hoping that the trailer-easter egg is a teaser for the next movie with The Collector having a more prominent role.

I really want to see Drex and Groot fully unleashed. i don't feel like I got that.

I left the theater wanting more.

Batista is a big baby, it's great. Rumor has it that he broke down and cried when he found out he got the role as Drax. That's pretty awesome if it turns out to be true. What is true is that the dude collects vintage lunch boxes and thermoses. I think he'd be awesome to hang out with.

I heard that rumor as well that he broke down and cried after getting the news about the part. However I didn't know that he collected lunch boxes. Either way, if it is to be believed quite a few pro wrestlers are actually just big geeks/nerds at heart.

Anyway, I saw Guardians this weekend. It indeed was a good movie and coming from the perspective of someone who LOVES Cosmic Marvell but didn't read GotG much it was still fun to watch. Yes it did scream "I'm an 80's guy!" but that didn't take away from the experience.

The main cast was great (including the voice acting for Rocket and Groot) and a villian being evill for evill's sake was all that was required. They had entirely too much story to tell to flesh out Ronin and more importantly Nebula WILL return. I never liked Karen Gillian but she played her part rather well. The finer points of it have already been said, I won't rehash those. Definitely a must see!

I know its an extreme long shot but I hope they introduce Death. I still think the idea of Thanos destroying the Universe for the sake of a woman that won't give him the booty is still hilarious to this day.

P.S. I think the after credit roll scenes of the last few movies has been a private in-joke these days, kinda like "Let's see how many people will actually sit through the credits hoping for a preview of the next movie."

Spoiler within spoiler within spoiler. For the few people that still haven't seen it. For one, Gunn changed the name of Quill's ship from "Ship" to Milano, after Alyssa Milano. Another is when the little ships start kamikazing the city. Space Invaders. Lloyd Kaufman is one of the prisoners in the Kyln.

If you are referring to Cosmo, he was already in the movie, right near the beginning with the Collector. He was inside one of his cages.
