DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

This is a high level quest that may require a person to be level 46 to get the "reward drop". It starts by talking to to Master Kless in Cotswold. He gives you a note to take to Lt. Kuebler in Castle Sauvage.

Lt. Kuebler is agitated but sends you to kill Boggarts to learn something from them. The directions are that the SW of Caer Erasleigh but I was able to find and kill one between Caer Berkstead and Caer Sursbrooke. Boggarts were orange and red to my lvl 46 friar but I was able to solo an orange one with a bit of work. When you have killed enough of them, only took one for me, you will get runed metal bars in you inventory.

As per Lt. Kuebler's instructions, you take the runed metal bars to Sage Lissa in the tower southeast of Ludlow. She gives you some information then sends you back to Lt. Kuebler at Castle Sauvage.

Lt. Kuebler gives you new orders to wipe out an Ellyll village in the Pennine Mountains, but you need to see a scout first. Albion Scout can be found on 19k,4k (19053, 4206) Pennine Mts.

The scout gives you instructions to destroy the Ellyll village just over the next hill(loc=53393,55535). This is a small village with 1-2 guards and maybe 4 villagers. If you are putting together a small party to help you out with this part, be sure to let them know that this isn't the main Ellyll camp that contains Ellyll Champions. That would take a much tougher party to accomplish.

Once you have wiped out the village, go back to the scout and he will tell you where Saffron the named cockatrice lives. The instructions are for a valley southeast of Caer Sursbrooke that has lots of cockatrices and Twylith Teg Rangers. Be careful of the rangers because they can have a high agro range. The approximate locations coordinates of Saffron is in the small clum of trees at 40K 39K she is very small. Upon killing Saffron, you will get a one time drop that is dependant on class. From my experience, friars will get the Frozen Leather Helm while Clerics get the Frozen Stone Helm (chain helm with +4 smite). A Paladin also got the Frozen Stone Helm so I'm not sure if any other classes will get the one time drop.

Return to Lt. Kuebler after killing Saffron and he will congratulate you and give you experience. If I remember correctly, the exp reward is about 186 million.

A different version:
First, I got the quest by talking to Lt. Kuebler, so it appears you can start it different ways.

I had to kill a cliff crawler to get the runed metal bars. I also got some exp here, I think it was the 168M.These spiders are East of Berkstead, on the way to Boldiam. They were yellow and orange to me, so they were a bit easier to solo than the boggarts.

The next 2 steps were the same.I killed 3 ellyl villagers, not the whole camp. They were yellow to me, and the 3 came as a group. I was in a group of 5 of us at the time.

And, then we got Saffron.

Saffron gave me a Frozen Quilted Cap and then Lt. Kuebler gave me 168,629,657 exp.

Lvl 48 Smiting Cleric. I handed in the rune Metal Bars I got approx. 225 mill. for EXP. Went to Ellyll camp & had to kill about 5-6 elves & then on bottom it said taht "Camp Was Wiped Out". Then went to kill SAFFRON, (She is in the small clum of trees at 40K 39K she is very small) very low orange to me at Lvl 48 Very easy kill. Eventually went back to Lt. Kuebler & got 244,758,976 EXP pts

lvl 50 received 293,601,280 experience.

champion experience gained 154.

  Frozen Stone Helm
  Frozen Leather Helm
  Frozen Boned Helm
  Frozen Quilted Cap
  Frosted Plate Helm
  Icebound Quilted Cap

Does Saffron pop at a certain time?
# Jul 04 2003 at 7:47 AM Rating: Default
I know the location he's in because I've ran across him with another character. But this time I could not find him and I ran all over there. I was wondering if he popped at a certain time.

Uh huh so what patch you on? OH really, I bet if you click that one reward up there it says WAS Saffron OTD. Like a lot of the OTD, they are making them quests.

And cleric is spelled with a C.

This was such a great story I couldn't believe it just ended. I thought there would be another 10 steps. I'm like "It's over!??!"

This is a quest with immense potential and a possily one of the best story lines, but fizzles out and goes off on a tangent for a helm. Not sure where the helm fits into teh part about war...

Very dissappointing conclusion.
Random MOBs
# May 11 2002 at 1:56 PM Rating: Default
It appears that the first monster you kill may be a random MOB in Pennine Mountains. A cleric I know just did this quest and had to kill a Cliff Crawler for his first MOB.
