The One Thing

News from Sanya on the Herald:
Thought I'd better let everyone know - no patch notes today. While I have your eyeballs, though, I wanted to let you know that I am going to be putting together another The One Thing list. What's that? Read on: If you run a message board or some other forum, please start a thread entitled "The One Thing." Your readers are then invited to post, once, the "one thing" they'd most like to see in the game. No arguing, no debating, each person's heart's desire is just as valid as anybody else's. Send me the link, and I'll compile a great honking list for the dev team. Thanks in advance, guys!

maybe a bit late, maybe not

i'd like to see strict, relentless pursuit of in game hack users - becoming more popular, i assume, because little is being done to stop it

fellow named Ciap, Hib MLF - well known, even by his own realm mates - which is, by all tellings on the VN, why he has no guild

I'd really like to see an option for turning off friendly character names, but leaving realm-enemy names visible. As it is, you can either have a screen littered with friendly names plus "red" names, or you have to click on every moving object in RvR to make sure it's not a realm enemy.

All you would need is another option button, like "Friendly Players", or maybe change the "Players" option to only include friendly (i.e. your realm) players in the first place. I know this option wouldn't mean much on the PvP and Co-op servers, but it would sure help clean up the screen for everybody else.
Keep Defense
# May 08 2003 at 7:54 PM Rating: Default
My vote is for better keep defenses. The way keeps are set up now is pretty silly. Some of them make it too difficult to target people directly up against the walls, and one of them you can't target anyone unless they happen to be directly in the 'arrow slit' area. This makes it quite hard to defend and leads to people waiting in the lord rooms for the gates to fall. Keeps are meant to make a small group of defenders able to take out and defend an area being attacked by a large number of people. Adding spots that anyone can climb up on the walls from the inside will help (I know one realm's keep already has this).

The One Thing I'd love to see would be a North African realm. In Albion you've got Saracens, so where did they come from? A Moorish realm would capture the mythic desert feeling that occurs in many fantasy novels.

What kind of races to have? Berbers, Tuareg, Carthaginians, Moors, and perhaps some more fanastic races such as Ifrit (strong, fire-resistant humanoids).

Eye candy: Moorish architecture, palm trees, desert rocks, twinkling fountains, green oases, Roman ruins (think Volubilis, in Morocco).

Monsters: Desert giants, Djinn, snakes, lizards, dinosaurs, living fires, sand demons, crazed nomads.

Classes: Scimitar-wielding swordsmen, stealthy cutthroats, pirates, mysterious conjurers, mirage makers, desert prophets.

And you can dress up like a Sultan in your onion-head hat!

The one thing I would like to see, albeit probably stupid sounding, is experience points for grey mobs. They don't need to keep dropping loot, but still getting experience for them would be kind of nice.

I don't think it would be such a bad idea really, since later on in levels, green mobs don't really move the experience bar at all. Also, I played a cleric for the longest time, and would try to help out when I could, whether it be for a res or whatever. It can be annoying for the lower level person to get aggroed by something green while it's long since been grey to the higher level helper. Killing the grey would then still merit experience for the low level, while really just giving a touch of experience for the high level.

Sorry for the rant, hahah, just think it wouldn't really hurt to still get something for those annoying greys that love to aggro ><

I agree entirely. It annoys me when I kill stuff that's blue or green with about 8 gray adds and because they're under me I don't get any group bonuses. Just because they're beneath me doesn't mean they can't put in a dent... and it'd also relieve some of the frustration of having to waste valuable weapon and armor condition killing grays to get high-level things to spawn.

The one thing i'd like to see in DaoC is plain and simple.

REALM BALANCE

Thanks

I would like to see Random acts of Gods... sudden rains swell a river and wash everyone down. Random Lightening strikes. a Hail storm or two.

I love the big shroom that comes wrecking havoc on Domnan Grove! more of that! i thought the dragon was going to fly and come randomly attack towns? that would be great!

I guess to sum up, i want more spontanaity and surprise from time to time. of course... even THIS can be overdone

I'm all for a new realm addition too. It might be tough to catch them up in RvR, but I think it would be cool. In Albs you fight the ressurected soldiers or a destroyed Rome, how about a realm based around Roman or Greek Mythology.

I just wanna play a class called "Centurian." :P

But adding Japanese mythology would be kinda cool. It's not European legend like the rest of the stuff, but it would be badass to run around in samurai armor, now wouldn't it?
What i want to see

a new realm based on ancient japan. Classes like ninja, samuria and geisha, and races like shadows, dragonkin, and demons. I think that would be very cool.

The One thing that I would like in DAoC is to go beyond the Veil. i want to see the Underhill. I would also like to travel to the Underworld. The home of Arawn. Another fun thing to do would be to go on a Viking raid into the European Continent. Perhaps in the next Commercially distributed expansion pack?

I really want to see a playable giant wombat class, but seeing as I am obsessed with wombats for some unknown reason, this might not be the most rational answer out of all the others posted. Oh well.

I would love to see port/gate spells for casters, along with self bind spells. These spell effects could also be put into jems by alchemist/scer's for the non caster types. This would make getting around the realms and doing raids much faster. All of the downtime used to ride horses is a little ridiculous.

the one thing i would like to see is group orientated objects. So someone completes a quest and wins an object, which doesn't increase stats to the individual but when they are in a group the bonuses are applied to everyone.

The One thing that I would like to see are quests with a new reward-type. The rewards that I am thinking of are the training points that we get for leveling. Instead of getting 1x, 1.5x, 2x, or 2.2x our level like with leveling, we would get 1 or 2 points for completing a quest. The quests could be difficult for its level or group oriented with a finite level range. For example: a level 10-11 quest that requires at least 4 group-members to kill 15 mobs that are red to them. The problem that this would address is that some characters have left over training points when they hit 50. My druid will have 8 points left over after training at 50. All my skill levels are too high to use the points. Why not complete a half-dozen or so quests through-out the leveling proccess and be able to train one more level into Nurture or Regrowth. I hate the idea that those 8 points will never be used.

The one thing i would like to see is alternatives too dungeons, so still keep the dungeons, but add different places, like Evil churches where there are lower lvls or huanted houses where there are several lvls. Then quests could be made to retrieve objects or kill the big baddie for xp.

I would like keep guards would eb different from realm to realm so that, for example, hiberneria could upgrade keeps to get casters defending it aswell. Mid could get additional guards and albion could get maybe some higher af on the guards. Or you could make some options so you could either get casters, more tank guards, more archers. that sort of thing
New class
# May 02 2003 at 3:57 AM Rating: Default
The one cool thing I would like to see in DAoC is a new class. I know we just got 6, but they are only a little closer to what I want.
I would like to see a class (in any realm) that has the ability to dual wield and cast offensive magic. Sort of like a reaver or valewalker, but with dual wield (or celtic, or left axe) instead of flexible weapons or scythes. The armor would probably be very weak, (like leather or studded at best) as I see this class as being very offense heavy.
Right now the only dual wielding casting class is the ranger, and their spells are buff only. The light tanks all already get a pulling ability with bows, (except Zerks, and I think we all agree that Vendo makes up for anything they don't get-even when left axe gets nerfed) this class would just have to use spells instead.
This is what I would like to see.
Thanks for your consideration and keep up the good work!

I would like to see a battle arena of some sort in each realm so players could battle it out not just with duels.
There could be different kinds of arena battles, such as 1 on 1, 2v2, 20 person free for all etc

They could give out prizes to the winners of the big free for alls, or tournaments... Maybe such as a single line respec (for a HUGE HUGE tourny win), a few points up in the craft skill of your choice (again for the big tounrys), or just gold, and maybe some average items... I would like that personally
weather and seasons

I would like to see more weather effect's
rather than just sun and rain and a little
bit of snow now and then and dependent on
zone, this leads me on to second suggestion
season's would be cool even better if they
along the same time line as the real world.

p.s
reiyos swiftbow's idea sound's cool too prehaps have the skill like ranger's in eq where you spec in tracking the more point's you put in the better you get.

i would like to see friars get an insta heal at some spec in rejuv. albion being limited to only 1 class that can cast true heals and only 2 classes that can direct heal at all cripples any group in rvr or rve without a cleric. friar spec heals are decent but in rvr they just don't do enough healing fast enough.

I'd like to see a reason for Hibernian casters to spec in something other than Mana.

The one thing I'd like to see the most in DAOC is a tracking ability for archer types. By tracking I mean that they can walk over an area or past an object and see traces of mobs or other people. Example: "You see a troll print in the soil facing northwest" or "You spot a shred of druid robes on the ground." Also, these identifiers could have a small name above them like above gravestones, visible only to these archer types with names such as "troll print" or "saracen print." It could be granted at a certain train in longbow or stealth, or just at a certain level, and its % of succession increasing with level. I believe that the names of the archer types dictate that they would have such abilities as these: Scout, Ranger, and Hunter.
