Destiny: Patch 1.0.2

Bungie is soon releasing a 'Legendary' patch with welcome changes to engrams.

"Cayde-6 took the Cryptarch aside and showed him a sack of doorknobs.
He decoded that mystery pretty quickly."

Having played countless hours of Destiny since launch, this patch is near and dear to our hearts. Patch 1.0.2 – going live tomorrow morning this week – focuses on "the Cryptarch and Engram experience". Tired of getting ripped-off on your hard-earned Legendary engrams? No more.

Note: "Only Engrams that drop after 1.0.2 are subject to this change."

Cryptarch Changes

  • Legendary Engrams: Always produce Legendary quality or better, incl. Materials or Exotics
  • Rare Engrams: Always produce Rare quality or better; increased chance of Legendary quality

Activity Changes

  • Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams in addition to their existing rewards

Item Changes

  • Ascendant materials have been promoted to Legendary quality (to reflect use)
  • Legendary Engrams that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality

It seems we've discovered why the Cryptarch was offering his "free" services. A narrow-focused patch, but it's an incredibly helpful change for those hovering around the end-game.

Happy decrypting, Guardians!

Edit: The original post had stated that the Patch was going live Tuesday morning, which it did not. I apologize for making that assumption and wording it definitively. It should have been more open-ended.

Deputy Editor Colt "ShdwFlm" Casey may benefit from actually learning the art of reading patch notes. Nowhere did Bungie's official patch note list a solid date; instead, it simply gave 'next week' as an ambiguous timeframe for 1.0.2 to land. Assuming that the weekly server reset would bring the patch was foolish and unwarranted, as Destiny has only been live for a few weeks and has yet to show any sort of formal patch habits, i.e. every weekly server reset.

Stating that 1.0.2 would go live today as if it was undisputed fact not only shows your lacking aptitude for a career in news reporting, it was also blatantly rude. Articles similar to this one that also made assumptions only confuse your reader base, and cause people to form dozens of redundant forum posts asking about the patch and whether it did actually go live on the servers.

Next time that you want to copy-paste from Bungie, you might wanna give it a brief scan before yelling, "TL;DR!", and hitting the submit button.

Bye!

Hey crackers1,

I clearly made an assumption I shouldn't have. The community consensus had been that Tuesday was likely, and...well, it didn't happen. I should have been much more considerate about the timing there. We're all eagerly waiting together for it to drop, so being definitive in my wording was a mistake. While your post was a little harsh, I understand that I deserve some of it.

I'll be more scrupulous in the future. I'm sorry I blew it this time.
Is it live?

As crackers1 pointed out, the patch isn't live just yet. Keep checking through the week!
So much yes.
