What Engineering Creates

In a word, gadgets. Engineers can produce trinkets that perform special tasks, bombs and grenades for area effect damage on the battlefield, scopes for ranged weapons, and all kinds of silly and fun items.

What Engineering Requires

Engineering requires all kinds of stuff, but the biggest requirement is ores and stone, which means most engineers prefer to be miners as well.

Is Engineering For Me?

Engineering creates a LOT of items that can only be used by engineers. This makes it very valuable to be your own engineer, and also very hard to sell anything and make money. However, some of the "toys" that engineering creates are very useful in PvP. For a strict PvE-player, engineering gives paladins a means of having ranged attacks, and creates some guns and bullets, and scopes for ranged weapons, both of which benefit hunters.

In terms of making money, engineering is pitiful. Almost nothing is salable simply because it takes another engineer to use it. *Some* of the specialization items can only be made by one class of engineers, but used by any, however mostly engineers are relegated to selling scopes.

However, there are innumerable items on the engineering list that can be labeled a "reward" for being an engineer yourself.

Specialization

Past level 30, with a skill of 200, engineers can study with the great minds of either the gnomes or the goblins. Gnome engineering tends to focus on gadgets and trinkets, whereas goblin engineering is typically explosive in nature.

Unlike other specializations, your choice between goblin and gnome is considered permanent, but restricts more what you can create rather than what you can use.

Engineering Quests

This is by no means a complete list.

Quests that are just for engineers

Quests that require products from an engineer:

Special Warning

Most engineering items have a potential side effect that can trigger around 20% of the time the item is used. Engineering items are considered to often be powerful, but with a risk--when creating advanced Goblin Engineering items, there is a probability that the project will backfire and send you to the Spirit Healer. These risks are sometimes extremely crippling, but they are almost always whimsical in nature, and many of the silly things that can happen to engineers are often worth seeing once in a while.
