Focus effects are item effects that give bonuses to your spells or combat skills.

Focus Effect Attributes

Each focus effect has certain attributes:

Focus Effect Types

There are several basic focus effect types:

  • Increase Spell Damage (DD)
  • Increase Spell Damage (DoT)
  • Increase Spell Damage (DD and DoT)
  • Increase Spell Duration
  • Increase Healing
  • Increase Spell Range
  • Increase Spell Haste
  • Increase Pet Power
  • Decrease Spell Mana Cost
  • Decrease Chance of Using Reagent

Spell Type Restrictions

Many focus effects have spell type restrictions. Some examples:

  • Some "Increase Spell Damage (DoT)" focus effects only affect DoT spells with a specific resistance type (such as fire).
  • Some "Increase Spell Duration" focus effects only affect detrimental spells and others only affect beneficial spells.
  • Some focus effect only apply to a specific spell or group of spells

Level Restrictions

All focus effects have an upper level bound. Some focus effects (such as "Increase Pet Power") also have a lower level bound.

When a spell is higher than the upper level bound for the focus effect, the focus effect's bonus is decreased. For each level above the upper level bound that the spell is (the spell, not the caster), the focus effect's bonus decreases by 5%, meaning 5% of the focus effect's bonus, not 5% off the final modifier. For example, when a focus effect provides a 50% bonus and a spell is cast that is one level higher than the upper bound, the final modifier would be 47.5%, not 45%.
