I watched the Silver Griffon spawn at 522, -55, -7.94. I killed him.

At 11:54 I was in the same spot and he was on track, he can spawn at different points. Sees invis and is KOS.

Zahan the Vile was also up.

The placeholder for The Silver Griffon is a griffon. The respawn time is just under 14 minutes and 30 seconds.

I'm thinking any relation to Zahal proposed has simply been coincidental, as I've had both up together numerous times and they appear to be on different timers. Zahal is on a much longer respawn timer. I've watched his spawn a little, and he's usually around the 1 hour mark, but I've also seen him take longer. I'm curious if he has some sort of variance to his spawn.

Other mobs have a box on the left of the picture with special features. The Silver Griffon is immune to runspeed changes and summons (found that out the hard way.) I think he also Harm Touches for 500. That's what got me more than anything. Died within sight of the stupid EK zone line.

And the help of 3 guards. lol. Pulled him to 2 guards, spammed dots till they stuck. Pulled him to 4 more guards and redotted. Got the kill exp. Close one too heh heh.

Met him at zl from EK, and decided to take him out. I was surprised to learn that i couldnt root or snare him, and it really hurt my feelings when he started casting spells. I tried to melee him, and he tore me a new one. I called a backward facing advance and zoned out. I think I'm fairly well equiped, had all my own buffs up, was lom, but he mostly just caught me off guard.

After reading the posts here I see that his speed can't be changed. But I'm curious about something.
As a Necro I usually pull with my darkness line. This line 1) slows the mob, 2) puts a DOT on them right off the bat, and 3) gets me the aggroe so they ignore my pet while he pounds them. Would the DOT aspect of this line still take effect? Or does his anti-slow tag render him imune to all of a slowing spells effects?

I've got some Druish friends and would like to know beforehand if I need to alter tactics when we hunt this guy.

Wrong. if target is immune to runspeed change, then darkness line will not land, thus, you will still have aggro from casting on mob, but DoT will not be in effect

When you have a spell with multiple effects and you cast it on a mob that is immune to one (or more) of those effects, then only the effects that the mob is immune to won't land, but the others will. So in this case, he won't be slowed, but he'll still be DoTted and you'll have the aggro.
This might be cheating, but...

My 36 ranger found him on track. I tried to root him and got the "speed can't be changed" message. I hightailed it to the guard tower and let the two guards take his harm touch and beat on him a bit. He killed them both, and he was at about 60% hp's when he was done. I killed him with about 50% hp's left.

He seems to have a lower AC than normal griffons. I was hitting him pretty well, he just had a lot more hp's. He ran at about 20% hp's, which surprised me a little.

Nice of the guard to take that harm touch. He would've wiped the floor with me if he'd landed that on me. So there you go, easily soloed, with some help from the guards. :o)
My Tactics
# Jul 06 2004 at 2:31 AM Rating: Decent
Well, me(41 druid) and a friend(36 druid) were just strolling the NK tracking griffons and anything else worth killing, when The Silver Griffon showed up on track, so we found him, conned blue to me at 41. We figured we would snare him and dot like normal...but his sped cant be changed....so there i was running around in circles while my friend was casting dots on him....he did hit me with a 400pt Harm Touch...no other spells though. Well our tactics were to trade aggro while when DoTs wore off...so dots wore off and my friend came up and hit him...he gained aggro and assumed my position of running around in circles....I DoTted him for about 76pts a tick total and took down about 4-5% a tick....and occasionaly nuked for 290...he was tough...but we eventually took him down without much problem.
soloing
# May 08 2004 at 10:02 PM Rating: Decent
could a 40 warrior solo him?
RE: soloing
# Jun 02 2004 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
I would doubt that. I almost got my butt handed to me by him today (i'm a 42 Druid with some very nice gear). He hits you for 400+ points and constantly fears you. Also, the only thing he drops is for a Druid quest...

Cheers,

Just some fun facts (ok so maybe they aren't all that fun):

I solo'd him at 53. I am a 53 ranger as my signature says. I had KEI (didnt use much mana, not even a blue.) and that was for DoTs. I also had HoV. Whether or no that really played a role I don't care to find out.

His *HT* was 401 on me but since I had HoV he didn't as much as dent me.

He continually tried to Fear me (resisted them all with a MR of 63)

He is *NOT* snareable *OR* rootable.
  • ***Keep that in mind***

  • Dropped a Silver Griffon Feather. (Still have yet to figure out what it's for.)

Resists any changes to move speed (snare/root). If you are in wolf form however (even the lowest version) you will no longer be KoS to him. He cons indifferent whilst in wolf form and wont aggy (go hug him!). Does some DD for 400 pts of damage. I have been able to outrun him with SoW.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 21 2003 at 9:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) All this talk of the big bad griffon left me anxious to try my skill. At a freshly acquired level of 39, I was itching to try out my new spells, so who better to go for. I was incredibly disappointed, however, when i solo'd this thing with no trouble. It didn't resist anything at all. How sad for a yellow mob to be such a push over. And people say chanters can't solo...
    Boredom and the Silver Griffon
    # Sep 29 2003 at 7:30 PM Rating: Excellent
    Two things for NK newbies:

Do not be next to the guards when the Silver Griffon gets through with them, especially at level 31. You won't make it to the guards at the SK zone, much less the druid circle.

If you zone in on top of the Silver Griffon and are bored, especially at level 31, do not try to fight it. You won't survive. Especially if you run around in circles like a doofus.

I was running around North Karanas while working on my Tracking skill when the Silver Griffon showed up on tracking. So I ran over and started singing Tuyen's Chant of Flame while maintaining my Selo's. It did not appreciate my singing much so I just ran circles around him. It caught me off guard when it started casting spells on me. Fear, Boil Blood, and Engulfing Darkness. I thought I was a gonner for sure when Engulfing Darkness hit me, but I know more than one cover song, so I sang Sionachie's Dreams and mezzed it until ED faded. Then it was time for an encore of Tuyen's Flame and the show was over. Now I have one more item in the bank that I have no idea what to do with.

    Greetings,

Happened to be in NK attempting to hunt up a HQ lion skin for tailoring, when I saw this beastie appear. As he is only blue to me, took him on - erk! No snare, no root - trouble! Decided to zone out and leave him alone.

Saw him later when I came back in and didn't run into him. Went up to med by the guard tower, and he flies up and starts attacking the guards! I note that his health is falling, and the guards seem to be holding their own. I add in a few DoTs to help him along, wait until he gets to about 15% health from those and the guards whacking him, then dump a Starfire on him. Looted the corpse and got the feathers.

So remember - the guards are your friends - use them! Smiley: smile

As I'm a Beastlord at 40 and my spells are expensive it took me a bit to take him out. I had 39 pet which was dblue to me and he was white formidable. He casted Clinging Darkness and some other dot. Got him to about 40% and he tagged me and my pet with fear something happened not sure whether it's a glitch or not but it filled my health up while I was running. Turned around taxed him with Drowsy dotted with tainted breath and kept pounding on him till he went down.

He dropped the silver griffon feathers and I'm happy :)

He is undead and was immune to changes in run speed when I encountered him, he casts Necro spells, Clinging darkness (which dispelled both SoW and later wolf form) he flies at SoW speed, but not as fast as WF at level 40, he was an even con to me (40) and after the initial shock of not being able to snare/root, I zoned and returned and took him out using dot's, WF and by healing myself, raise DS's and stay out of reach as much as possible while your DoT's take him out.

Conned LB to me. I spotted a Griffon on track and figured I'd get some revenge for all the times I got killed in NK by Griffs. Killed the griffon and noticed this guy had appeared. Don't know if it was coincidence or the two events are linked. so I chased this guy down just as he was wandering over to the guard tower. I just sat back to watch the 2 guards get smashed. The silver griff was down to 48% health after dispatching the guards do I just hit him with 2 fire nukes and he went down. Schweet, Vendetta complete =). He dropped the silver griffon feathers.
    Silver Griff's Spawn rate
    # Feb 02 2003 at 7:31 PM Rating: Excellent
I was hanging by the guard tower with low lvl character and killin' all the wisps that would happen by and having the guards protect my weakling hide when I saw the Silver Griffin soar over top the Gypsy camp. So I sent out the flag that the Silver Griffin was out to play and then I started getting all these tells like I was crazy. Out of 15 people in there, no one had heard of this guy. "Are you sure it's not Grimfeather?" they all asked. "Well not unless Grimfeather spells his name S I L V E R G R I F F I N," I say.

How often does this guy spawn? It seems to me he is not a regular occurance. At a lower lvl the best money maker I find is to get Greater Lightstones and trade them for xp and the Book of Concordance to the Gypsy's, then sell that for 9pp+. Yet if I gotta deal with him on a constant basis, my bank will be overflowing with Lightstones before I can get in and out safely.

And the speed on the bugger is unreal. I can be running in a straight line using 3D view, rotating like mad and he still sneaks up on me. He must have a sixth sense for tender newbie meat. It gave me a brief glimpse at my death to come before it sank it's claws through my poor excuse for armor. So fast and quick that I couldn't read what it said until I re-spawned. Something about "Screaching with delight," and "Oozing black poison from it's claws." Very creepy and intimidating.

Probably controlled by the GM's when they are sick and tired of answering petitions I think.
    "Hey GM Bob"
    "What up GM Neal?"
"Is that the nOOb that we killed yestadee?"
*GM Bob picking his nose* "I do believe it is GM Neal, he must be wantin' all his items back"
"Well...we can't be havin that now can we GM Bob?"
"I'll go fire up ol' Silvy and we'll get that son of a...."
