Not great for Maat.

I acquired a used Stoneskin Torque for my fight against Maat (MNK), and imo it isn't useful at all during the fight. First, yes: the enchantment does stay on after you've unequipped it and re-equipped whatever it is you wear in that slot (Spike Necklace for most melee).

The caveat is this: the enchantment wears off in about 30 seconds. When I faced Maat, I used both this and a Blink Band. The shadows from the Blink Band were subtracted first, and by the time Maat eliminated my second shadow, the enchantment from the Stoneskin Torque wore off.

For melee jobs preparing for Genkai 5, a Blink Band is all you need. Maat, even though he uses Hand-to-hand, attacks very, very slowly, and I'm positive he couldn't eliminate your shadows fast enough for the Stoneskin enchantment to ever be tested.

He can get rid of shadows really fast by using Combo > Spinning Attack > Shoulder Tackle when you fight him as a Samurai. Blink + Third Eye will be great, but all those hits (Combo = 3) & an AoE (Spinning Attack) will knock them out quick.

I'm gonna try this when I get there, and just activate it right before I engage. We'll see...

...obviously taking into consideration the above post from a Samurai who had the same thoughts.
PLD, G-smithing, Anima, and Me
# May 28 2005 at 5:55 PM Rating: Decent
PLD is probably going to be my melee class of choice once I finish with WHM (at 60 now, so it shouldn't take forever). My intention is to keep the indurated gold ingots on me and just keep recharging this item any time I need it. Expensive? Kind of. Worth it? We'll find out much later.

You would be spending some serious cash to use this in exp party. If you really want to spend money that badly you would be better served like buying mp or hp drinks instead of an expensive item like this, that would probably only last a couple of hits
skilling up on these
# May 27 2005 at 7:03 PM Rating: Default
As a goldsmither skilling up, I would gladly sell these for little more than cost to anyone on Asura who's interested. At the moment, they cost me around 550k to make, so I could easily let them go for 650k.

I'm a samurai. The other day I decided "Wow, it sure would be nice to Use this and blinkband against maat!" I figured With both of these items working at once I could almost completely nulify the blast of damage received from maat's Meokyo Shisui. Well, turns out you can't use them.

"Ukyo uses a Blink band....No Effect on Ukyo."

Then I go to use Stoneskin Torque.

"Unable to use Item"

At the time, I was standing right in front of Maat, 1 hit away from starting battle with him. Maybe it was a recent patch... But DO NOT BUY THESE IF YOU ARE A SAM WANTING TO BEAT MAAT!

Edit: You can use this item, but make sure you use it before you approach Maat. If you try to use it after he says "So you decided to show..." it will be disabled.

Any idea what lvl goldsmithing is needed to make this? I would assume its pretty high because Torque is a 77 GS recipe.
rdm genkai 5 compatable
# Nov 10 2004 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
i really really wonder how good this is for genkai 5?
i mean it'll save about 100+ mp from you recasting stoneskin,
and it has +magic stats

If this item can be recharged it would be awesome for PLDs. Not necessarily for NINs since it's probably best to keep the high evasion.

A PLD, though, might be able to keep one of these (maybe more if your filthy rich or if these are cheap... lol) and lower damage incurred in battle. Only problem is Stoneskin never lasts that long. Still, this Enchantment is better than nothing ^^

It can be recharged in one sense or another...

Basically, when it runs out of charges, it'll turn into the item "Torque". After that, combine with Indurated Gold, and you have another. There's a few problems with this, though... =\

Indurated Gold is 4x Gold Ores, and assorted Anima's. Anima's aren't so bad, 3k a pop or so. Gold Ore, especially 4 of them per 20 spell use, will break you.

So while PLD's (and NIN's for that matter =P) can dream, it's not plausible.

My thoughts exactly, but I wish you could take an item to an NPC or even learn a tradeskill to recharge enchanted itema a-la "Morrowind." Otherwise, this might be good for HNM tanking without a Summoner or Earth Staff, but it's too impractacle for everyday use.

seeing as it has 20 charges, it wouldnt be extra useful for those big hits...

enemy attacks that have a cast time... if you dont have a drk, or blm to stun... stoneskin ^^

but it would be far too costly for normal combat..

30 seconds after you equip before you can even cast it, and probably another 10 seconds or more to cast it. It would be better to leave merc collar/shield torque equiped
