History of the Elves (RoM Lore)

The History of the Elves

Long ago, elves and humans rode side by side into battle against the snake-like Naga. Together, the two allied races used powerful artifacts to build a magical barrier to prevent the malevolent Naga from ever leaving the Aotulia Volcano area. One such artifact was the Elven sword Arclight. After the fall of the ancient kingdoms, the elves retreated deep into the forests and to far-flung islands to escape annihilation by man-made Guardians. But there was another threat to the once-powerful elves — a long-foretold prophecy dictating that the birth of royal twins would bring great suffering to the race.

In the end, it was indeed The Curse of the Elven Twins that shrank the elves’ numbers. As foretold, the royal twins divided and weakened the elven people during a time of war with the Demons. The curse, however, was seemingly not wholly fulfilled. While the Guardians rampaged in Taborea, another pair of twins was born to the royal couple in the old elven homeland. In the homeland, the elven king Palun’aik decided to banish Kentalion, the younger of his two sons, to save his people from potential future harm. The royal family was shattered as the queen accompanied her son into exile. While the older brother Yabis’an was destined to eventually succeed his father, Kentalion was forced to begin a long and dangerous journey through the lands of Candara.

Fate guided Kentalion and his mother to the elven descendants of those who had followed one of the first twins into battle against the Demons. The mother and son stayed with the descendants for many years until Kentalion decided to continue his journey alone under the name Sig’aylas. During his travels, he found himself in the lands adjacent to the Naga-repelling magical barrier built centuries earlier. There, he fell in love with a young human girl. But the elven and human couple’s happiness was short-lived. Cyclops invaded the country, and the humans proved too weak to withstand their attacks. In his distress, Sig’aylas removed Arclight, the magical sword of his ancestors, from the barrier and drove the Cyclops away. But by removing Arclight, Sig’aylas destroyed the magical barrier, and the Naga escaped their prison. Once again, The Curse of the Elven Twins had come to pass.

On returning to Candara, humans have continually trespassed on the former lands of the elves. And while the Naga pursue plans of their own, the threat of war between humans and elves simmers on the northern borders of Candara. In these uncertain times, the elven king Yabis’an has decided to contact the humans in Varanas in an attempt to restore the ancient alliance and stand a better chance against the Naga.
