Quotes

- The Traveler (Varanthari), Lomshir: "Once upon a time... There was a man, a mage. Powerful as lightning and fierce as the sea. He sought immortality, like their kind do, and discovered he could control the shifting of the sands. Soon, he became like sand himself. Some of the desert nomads came to worship him, calling him Mard Jeddah, or the man of the sands. Mard Jeddah and I met in the past. I gave him ten names. As a friend, he agreed to kill those ten people. Nine of them are dead. One name remains. You."

- Caller of the Tempest (Qaliathari), Ahgram: "The sand will come, a storm large enough to swallow all of Ahgram! And in its wake, the sands of Mard Jeddah! Beware evildoer - for Mard Jeddah comes for you!"

Conversation with Dirutiras Hasiva, Khal Port Authority

You say "I heard something about a sand wizard, could you tell me more?"

Dirutiras Hasiva looks slightly uncomfortable. "Yes, Mard Jeddah" says Dirutiras Hasiva. "The Feared".

"If he is so feared, why isn't something done about him?" you ask.

Dirutiras Hasiva narrows his eyes at you, "What do you mean?" he asks.

You say "From all I've heard, he's a menace. Something should be done about him".

"You almost sound like this is a personal matter" says Dirutiras Hasiva with a bit of a smirk.

You shake your head and say "I merely wish to know why such dangerous figures are allowed to roam free in Khal".

Dirutiras Hasiva says "Would you like to take up a sword and pursue him?" Many would rather see Mard Jeddah dead than alive" you say.

"But" says Dirutiras Hasiva "many would not".

"Why wouldn't they?" you ask.

"Well, Mard Jeddah has a certain popularity as well," says Dirutiras Hasiva. "No one has ever been able to say whether he is a hero or a villain".

"He kills people!" you say. "On the word of corrupt men. How is he not a villain?"

"He has done many valiant deeds as well," says Dirutiras Hasiva. "Were it not for him, Rodjen Mehren, the infamous pirate who ravaged sea trade for many years, would still be captaining a boat".

"Was he acting under direction there?" you ask.

"Not as far as anyone can tell" says Dirutiras Hasiva. "No one has claimed to have sent him, and while they might be intentionally keeping a low profile, there would at least be rumors by now of who it was".

"No, " says Dirutiras Hasiva, "I do not think that Mard Jeddah can be defined so easily. He seems to have some method, but no one knows quite what it is".
