i'm a lvl 51 dru and i'm currently camping this right now. at -900, -900 light blue (to me) cuda's also pop here, but if you kill 3-4 of those, db cuda's pop (2-3 in a row). it's been about 1.5hrs so far, i think.

damn, i sound really unsure about anything haha. long long day friends.

Just wanted to pitch in my 2cp worth...

I have been spending multiple sessions in LoIO trying to get this stupid fish...most of my sessions are about 4 hours each, none with any luck, I logged in this morning, killed a tainted, no corrupted. So, I spent the next 2 hours killing the cudas at the n900, n900 area and the ones just to the SW of it, finally a tainted, which was lt blue to me at 63, spawned, he had some HP's so I felt good about that kill. Sure enough, BAM...corrupted popped, snare him, pull him on land and root/rot his sorry butt. I used Immolation of Ro, Winged Death, Drifting Death and ES Vambraces (Drones of Doom). 2 sets total, keeping him rooted and he was nice enough to give me my water for my troubles....FAYDEDAR...BEWARE...LOL.

Good Luck to everyone who does this.

Ok, I killed this guy tonight. Had to kill 5 tainted before the dark blue tainted one spawned. Found a real easy was to dispose of the dark blue tainted and corrupted....Find a tank...dont matter what kind...any will do. Set up camp on shore at closest point from -900 -900. Pull blue tainted with snare to shore. Then FEAR animal. This worked like a charm:) We disposed of both rather easy with Fear animal.

Anywho,
Just a thought.

Ok, this info is correct as i have killed this guy twice, and camped him for about 20 hours (yeah i got real unlucky =p).

Anyways, do not bother killing any of the other deepwater barracuda's except the DW Cuda that spawns at loc -900, -900. The tainted's that spawn at the other DW Barracuda places are "fakes" meaning they do not trigger the corrupted upon death. Save yourself the time and only kill the one at -900, -900. After spawning he will swim a small distance towards land and sit there, just out from a small underwater ridge.
I found the easiest way to hunt this spawn is to Enduring Breath, Lev (just in case) and SOW yourself and med on the shore, along this small point, next to some ruins. You should be pretty close to the Astral Projection temple when u are medding. Invis up and swim into the water near you and you will find a small underwater ridge, follow it along a bit till it turns, then swim a little way out and you will see him (keep pressing F8 if it is dark or your vision sucks to get him targeted) then just snare, root, Swarm DoT, Fire Dot and sit down and let him rot, then go back onto shore and med. He is on a 6 minute timer exactly.
Tainted can spawn totally randomly, took me about 8 hours total of camping first attempt, but got KSed =(. 12 more hours and he popped although i have heard as short as 10 mins.
Anyways, i was only level 51 at the time so when he popped, i just shouted out if anyone in the zone 45+ could help me for 5 mins. About 5 people came to my loc, i pulled him and we beat him down. Corrupted is about level 45 i think and has a lotta HP's, up around 5K i think. Upon death, he will drop the Pure Lakewater for the Cleansed Spirit of Kunark.

I really hope this info helps because pressing Track the first time u go to camp him and seeing all those Cuda's is daunting. Good luck.

The fact that the corrupted will pop from the tainted at this spot is untrue.

Just got a tainted at this spot. No corrupted.

I can confirm the pop rate and the position. I've spent only about 2 hours so far and haven't seen a tainted yet, but no surprise there.

6 minutes is right on the money, and no its not exactly -900 -900. I sat at -910 -830 and never had to leave that spot. Always getting agro the instant the pop occurs.

More when I'm done. =) <---4/28/04

Just got it! 1st tainted spawn and followed me out of the water. Got the corrupted and my piece.

All in all I'd say about 3.5 hours of camping. Don't know the frequency of non-corrupted-spawning tainteds since I got lucky.

Had EB, Lev, Howler, Cabbage, Regrowth, KEI, Girdle, Bladecoat, and ds on me. Ran tainted out of the water before I did much casting, and once he followed me I was jumping up and down. Rooted, snared, Wings of Death, Breath of Ro, Drifting Death. Sit, med. Did that twice more, broke root at about 4% left and I just let the DoTs get him. Corrupted popped, same cycle. All done. =)

Now for the crazy part, to me at 60, the tainted was dark blue, and the corrupted was light blue. Go figure.

I was a bit dubious about this, that it could be as easy as it's laid out here, but I figured I really had nothing to lose. I followed the instructions here, almost exactly, and had the Pure Lakewater within an hour. The only thing I did really different was I have an EB item, so just stayed in the water until the tainted spawned.

A couple notes:

- The placeholder deepwater barracuda does not spawn at exactly -900, -900, but does spawn and stay in that general area.
- On the corrupted, Glamour of Tunare seemed to help snare land, and root stick.
- Corrupted died with: Winged Death x 2, Breath of Ro x 2 Drones of Doom x2 and Engorging Roots x 2.

The Tainted Barracuda that comes on land is part of the druid epic quest. If you kill the Tainted Barracuda he will spawn the Corrupted Barracuda. The Tainted Barracuda that spawns the corrupted Barracuda is the only that will come up on land.

the deepwater barracudas give great experience to Rangers from level 45 to 49 or 50. They are animals so just snare, fear and beat..then repeat. Easy.. The best part is they stop moving after a few feet.
Watch out!

As somebody else mentioned, these things can get you when you are on the shore. I was soloing bloodgills for lazy xp (most were green, but still giving xp). I sat on one of the fallen columns and went afk. I came back 10 minutes later and saw i was at my bind point!

When i looked at the log, I saw that I was murdered by a tainted barracuda. What type of barracuda is not irrevelant...more important was the fact that i was at least 15 feet from the water when I bought it. So, if you go afk in ill omen, make sure you are a fair distance from the shore.

SoW and Wolf Form both increase the target's rate of movement...so yes, it DOES make you swim faster and yes, there is a big difference when i swim unbuffed and in wolf form.

Druid under 14 I would wager...

Yes Iäve tested swimming with SoW countless times, up to a swimming of 198, and it is indeed a lot faster. Samme coorelation as running with or without SoW.

Most NPCs are however uber at swimming...

Uber is a German word, meaning "very", or more literally, "over", as in "Deutschland Uber Alles" (Germany Over All, their former national anthem). It's pronounced "OO-ber".

Back to the topic at hand; what's the MR like on these fugly fish?

Sorry to correct you, I'm German and the word "uber" you mean is written "über", but I know that you don't have the "u" with 2 points above on the American keyboard.

The word "über" is sometimes used for "super" or "very", or "controlling others"...........but it has nothing to do with the word "über" in "Deutschland über alles". This "über" has a totally different meaning.

I was standing at the mouth of the river waiting for a friend and one these bastages hit me for 120, it was a "Tainted Barracuda". At the time I was a level 26 Paladin and this guy chased me across huge distances on land while I was wearing Journeyman's Boots! I finally zoned to FV and shook it off and reported a bug to a GM, cmon... fish can't run on land!

That is done so that people could not kill water living mobs from the safety of the shore, targeted spells do not work against things in water if cast from land but area effects do, like vertain bardsongs and spells. There is the reason they follow you up on land so that you could not kill safely from shore.

Would have been the "Tainted barracuda" for the first one and the "Corrupted Barracuda" for the second. The Pure lakewater is for the druid epic quest. Corrupted spawns right after tainted is killed.

I am lvl 50 ranger still soloing bloodgills [since 45] (blue ones are rare at 50) but barracudas are still blue. I'd say they are 38-40 lvl. I cannot solo them. Best course of action is to have Leviate and SoW. They will attack few feet of the shore so keep running inland more. Now, I have not verified if they are 'animal'. Will try tonight.
35-38 is my guess

These things are nasty, hitting for multiple 88, and can outswimn a sowed person with a 161 swimming. Plus they can attack on shore, I know that is where I died flying out of the water.
RE: very nasty
# Apr 07 2001 at 2:57 PM Rating: Default
SoW has absolutely no effect on your swimming ability. If you had levitate and sow, you could fly up above the water and make a quick getaway, otherwards sow won't help you if attacked underwater.
RE: very nasty
# Oct 01 2001 at 12:49 PM Rating: Default
Sow definitly effects swimming, you can't swim backwards without it. My swimming is at 200, so forwards, im not sure, it doesn't really seem to make a huge difference if at all.
even I knew that you can swim faster with SOW
# Jul 12 2001 at 5:02 AM Rating: Default
and i'm only lvl 20. How? Whenever I die in Lake Of Omen, I'm bound in Fironia Vie, and I always have to make this HORRIBLE corpse run up a river. Usually I just run up the river, but I had someone put SOW on me before and what do you know, I went up the river faster and gained 2 swimming skill points for just being in the water for like 10 seconds. Then a bard took me up the hill too and I was getting scared as the screen was going by SO fast, faster than SOW.

Sorry, you don't swim faster with SoW. Personal experience (timed/tested). Please don't 'correct' people if you don't know.

A fish better be able to swim faster than any PC (even Iksar) ... its a fish!

Also (this is off topic):
You don't swim faster with Selo's (personal experience again). I don't know if you swim faster in wolf form, never had someone that could be in wolf form or swam against them. If you swim faster in wolf form, I'd suggest nerfing that btw since have you *ever* seen a dog swim? Can you say *slow*? They should cut swim by half in wolf form ...
RE: very nasty

You do swim faster with Spirit of Wolf.
You do swim faster while in wolf form.

I tested these in Oasis at the docks when I was around level 17 against other PCs unSoWed and unWFed with approximately the same swimming skill level (+/- 3 skill points I believe).

Might want to get you're facts strait. You do swim faster with sow or wolf form and you can even swim backwards with either of the two. I timed a swim from docks in oasis to pillar 2 with a swim skill of 200 and with wolf form made it 11 seconds faster with wolf form.

Swimming depends on your skill, not your buffs. I am a level 42 Druid with a ~195 swimming skill. I do not swim faster with SOW and it seems that I swim slower when in wolfform.

If there is a difference, there is no noticable difference. I have also tried this by starting swimming with sow and removed sow while swimming, I did not slow down after removing the sow buff.

I have also swam at noticable different speeds various different times while having the sow buff each time.
