Alrighty! This is one hell'of'a NM to solo.
No other job can solo him, her....It, because its spams AoEs Hits for 300+, Spams Silance AoE, spam AM/III+ga's and can charm you.
Plan to kill him:
First, Wait for darkness weather, no one kills him all that much, so 90% of the time he will be up.
Second, Spam a Gazer at the zone, run afew blocks into the maze, Fight a Blubber Eye, Run back to the zone, Leave you pet, then charm the blubber eye in a safe spot. Then 2 hour.
(This may take a bit, Try to hurry, Elel WILL Despawn after darkness leaves)
Third, Widescan, Find Elel, HE will always be in the south corner of the You, (Using FFAtlas you can find your way through the map much faster if you dont have the days memerized)
Next, Fight>Sic your blubber eye on Elel, Run to the zone, and then wait for your pet to die.
(Your Pet should have taken close to 25% off of his HP)
That was the easy part, now, You have to use DC-EM Bats and gazers for the remaining 75%... Should take 40-50 pet swaps, Which is hell, ALWAYS keep Blink up, AM can one shot you.

Luck plays a BIG role in soloing this big boy.
Sleepaga is prolly the biggest problem w/him. Duo is MUCH easyer. Your Blubber Eyes will get him closer to 30%, and Duoing anything as BST with good Pets is always easy.

The Frenzy Sallet is -99HP(Every 3 seconds) for the Latant(+4% Haste +12 Acc) I have sold the only one on Bismarck, sold it for 3M.
The Magical Mitts sell for about 6M(On Bismarck), They are +20HP +20 MP.

I'm currently 1/3 on the sallet, 0/3 on the Mitts. On Fights I'm closer to 3/8~. First time I killed him I was ina part of 12, while huntting Swift Belts.

Good Luck to anyone that trys to solo him!!
Have fun! ^-^

Wow.. what a hard guy to take down. I have only been able to grab an IT Blubber Eyes three times, and I am currently 0/6 on this guy. I am having some difficulty charming the Blubber Eyes.

I follow Reece's strategy, which seems to work quite well. Even though I've never been successful, it seems like every time I fight Elel I learn a new lesson.

Lesson #1) I just made a new record against him by getting his HP down to a little less than 1/2. The problem this time is that I thought I would just let his Flood hit my Blink because, even though I know that Blink is not 100% against attacks, I thought that it was 100% against magic. Big mistake... ate a 798 damage Flood and didn't survive much longer after that. Just stay as far away from this guy as possible and throw pets at him.

Lesson #2) Don't let your pets die; they will take too long to respawn. You must get out of aggro range and Heel your pet out of its ordinary area so that when you Leave it, it will depop and repop quickly with full HP. This guy eats through pets and there just aren't enough pets in the area to wait 14 minutes for full respawns.

Lesson #3) Be aware of your surroundings -- Don't get aggro from gazers that repop. Don't let a stray gazer waste your Blink shadows with an -aga spell as Elel will have free reign on you for a bit. Since he hits for 200-300, you simply can't afford even one more hit from Elel as absolutely necessary.

Lesson #4) Keep Blink up. Again, you can't afford to get hit even once more than absolutely necessary or you will lose pace with the battle very quickly.

Lesson #4) I'll throw this in: I simply don't see how this can be solod without a Gaudy Harness, unless you bring many Yagudo Drinks. This guy slaughters your DC-EM pets, so by the time you run out of aggro range, maybe Regen and/or Blink yourself, there is almost zero time to heal for mp. Gaudy Harness gives some Refresh that is desperately needed.

I've fought him enough now so that I am really good at pulling him quite easily. There is only one Stegotaur that will be in your way and it will vary between the two hallways that lead to the maze. (One other Stegotaur will always be in the dead-end hallway that is out of the way at G-6.) The key is to make sure this Stegotaur is not in the way when you pull your Blubber Eyes or Elel out of the maze. This means using Wide Scan to know which entrance the Stegotaur pop is at and if it will be in your way. If it is in your way, go kill it as quickly as possible. Sometimes the smart thing to do is to attack the Stegotaur at 19:00, so that when 20:00 rolls around it is about dead if not already, and it will only respawn 14 minutes later.

There are several relatively safe spots in the maze. My favorites are the NE corners of H-8 and H-9. When nighttime (20:00) comes, I like to go to one of these safe spots near a Blubber Eyes (I-8 and I-9) and wait for dark weather. I'll Leave and Re-Charm my Gazer pet every minute just to refresh the Charm timer because I don't want my pet to uncharm in the middle of a pull.

My main problem is that I seem to be taking too much damage during pet swaps because my pets cannot pull hate from Elel fast enough. Being that Blink is not 100% effective, Elel will inevitably get a hit or two in on me until the new pet can get hate. At some point I lose pace with the battle and can't find time to heal myself properly. Elel simply eats through pets and you don't have much time to do anything but Charm, Heel, Fight, and Leave, and repeat.

My current Non-Charm/Battle gear is:

Gaudy Harness
Crow Beret (for -enmity and evasion)
Crow Bracers
Crow Hose
Crow Gaiters
Reraise Earring for evasion
Buckler Earring (thinking about getting a Mythril+1 for the evasion)
Deft Rings (pretty useless since you don't engage Elel)
Warriors Belt +1
Dhalmel Mantle +1
Spike Necklace
Happy Egg
Barbaroi Axe (don't have a Monster Signa)
Balance Buckler

Anyone have any advice? I am thinking about trying this /NIN. There simply would be no way to heal myself if I took any damage, but I would probably be safer on pet swaps since NIN shadows are 100% effective.

Thanks,
Shapelesschasm

Be warned, he spams AoE silence, during the fight, he used AoE silence ("Silence Seal") very commonly.

Fought with 18 people, not much trouble at all. only spawns during Dark weather.

Uses Target charm which is pretty funny...

Also casts sleepga.

Good luck!

Found this guy the other night after farming some Coral Keys from Fomors... We had NIN, MNK, SMN, BRD, BLM, WHM. Things went pretty smooth until it used an ability called Danse Macabre, which Chamred our NIN and they both started wailing on me (MNK) until he got slept. Will also cast various Ancient Magic.

As for POS, we were relatively close to the library-ish room with all of the Fomor Dragoons, Samurai, Ranger, etc. We pulled him back into that hall with Carby, but I didn't have a map or even think to check <pos> at the time.

Frenzy Sallet

Ive been wanting a frenzy sallet since COP came out, Yes this guy drops it from what I heard JP sites.

*I translated a JP site looking for the sallets latent affect, and I read that this NM spawns when ever it is dusty. I forgot the POS sorry. Im tring to get all my CP missions done so i can get here. Most people have said the latent affect is when berserk is activated, but it is no where near confirmed.

The cuffs are neat, I'll admit.

However, this NM has an equally godly drop for those of us who beat things to death for a living: the Frenzy Sallet

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=5796

Still no sign of one on my server, and this has been around since CoP launch. Lots of speculation on what activates the latent effect, but no site has any real info.
