My name is Sordaya, and I am a student of history and lore. Is not this forest under the world a wonder to behold? It is simply magnificent. One wonders what secrets it yet holds. In fact, it is about [secrets] that I would like to speak with you." Sordaya says, "It saddens me to say it, but the war against Gullveig's thrall army is not going well for us. Truly, dark times lay ahead if we cannot find some way to defeat this evil witch and her minions. Being a historian, I naturally suspect that we might do well to look into the past for some [clue] to the events of the present." Sordaya says, "Did you know that it was Kolfinna, daughter of Astrior, who first ventured down here? That was over a century ago. Astrior led a separatist faction of Kobolds out of the Undercity, and deeper into this maze of caverns. She feared that, as the Kobolds of the Undercity began to venture into the overworld, they might betray the secret location of the [city]." Sordaya says, "You must understand that the Kobolds have historically had tremendous misfortune with the other races of the world. This dates back to the Morvaltar of Aegir. It was the torments of the Morvaltar that drove the Kobold race away from those lands, and here to Midgard, where they built the Undercity, so that they might dwell in peace and [privacy]." Sordaya says, "It's easy to understand, then, why Astrior and her people feared further contact with the world above. So it was that the separatists explored these deeper caves led by Kolfinna. In her time, she was a great explorer, as curious as she was [cunning]. " Sordaya says, "In fact, Kolfinna kept a journal of her explorations and adventures. Within the pages of that journal, there must be tremendously valuable information about the ancient powers that dwell here, beneath the world. There might even be some clues regarding the nature of the present [evil] that we face." Sordaya says, "Now we come to the point. I have been sent here to offer a reward to those adventurous souls willing to search for Kolfinna's journal, which alas was lost decades ago during an expedition into the Lower Crypt, which is home to the pale-skinned Inconnu, and to which this Forest is in fact [connected]." Sordaya says, "Do you have the courage and resourcefulness to try to locate Kolfinna's journal? It will be a challenging task, but I will reward you well for your efforts, should you be successful. Also, you will have rendered your realm a great service, for we might well find the information we need to save our people within the pages of that book. " Will you seek Kolfinna's journal? [Level 45] You have been given the A Piece of the Puzzle (Midgard) quest. [Step #1] Speak with the Kobold historian Sordaya about the [mission] to locate Kolfinna's lost journal. Sordaya says, "Splendid! I praise your stout heart and noble spirit! Your name shall be forever honored when I speak it. Now - let's discuss your [mission] in more detail, shall we?" Sordaya says, "What little we know about Kolfinna's journal is that it was torn in two when she and her scouting party were chased out of the Lower Crypt by the Inconnu that discovered them. The half that she brought back with her was passed along to the historians of the Undercity. The other half, we assume, is still somewhere in the [Crypt]." Sordaya says, "I have here the second half of Kolfinna's journal. Her account of the expedition into the Lower Crypt is included within these pages. Hopefully, by reading this, you can learn the location of the other half of the journal, if it still exists. Return to me with the rest of the journal, or with some evidence of its destruction, if you can find such. Beware - the Lower Crypt is perilous! Bring many friends on your journey. Good luck on your search! I will be waiting here for you." You receive the Torn Journal, Second Half from Sordaya! [Step #2] READ the second half of the journal and look for clues that might help you find the other half of the journal somewhere in the Lower Crypt. (to read the journal, right-click on it and type /use). You attempt to use the Torn Journal, Second Half.
The Torn Journal, Second Half reads, "As I was recording all of this in my journal, the dust overcame me and I sneezed. The black-robed figure whirled about and loosed a bolt of magical energy at us. I fell back to avoid it, and my journal slipped from my hands and flew into the air. The energy bolt tore it in two. I had time only to grasp one of the halves of my journal before the pale wizard loosed another bolt toward us. Alas, my entire account of the cave was lost. (continues)" The Torn Journal, Second Half reads, "We fled from the Artifact room, heading north across the antechamber and out onto the ledge. We knew that we had to go east, but many of the strange, decomposing hounds we had spied earlier blocked our path. We fought through them and crossed the culvert to the opposite ledge by way of a small bridge that lay before us. Continuing east, we soon came to a corner, and turned south." The Torn Journal, Second Half reads, "We continued south along the ledge and soon came to the base of the great stone steps which led upward to the door of the crypt. We had no choice to fight our way through, as there were many foes. We moved as quickly as we could and managed to climb the steps and open the gate. We dropped our weapons and fled back into the strange land of the dead." The Torn Journal, Second Half reads, "All the while my mind dwelt on the loss of my beloved journal. If the black-robed figure found it, he would likely have thrown it in one of his chests along with the other artifacts. However, I knew he would not part with the key, which I had spied on a chain around his neck, without a fight. He would likely defend it with his life." There is more dialog to this quest than what is posted. When you get to the spot in the Deadlands it is blocked by Haunted Lieutenant's that con yellow to grape to a level 48. To get past these mobs you will either need a group or if you are solo it has been said that you can sprint past these mobs and zone into the instanced dungeon to erase agro and then proceed to the Artifact Room where Somahryk resides (said to con OJ to a lvl 50). It has been mentioned that it is "easiest" to go along the ledge to the right of the door once inside the crypt. In sight is one pet class with pet, around the corner another + stealther type. Once past those 3, no more aggro until you reach the spot near the gargoyles where you can see a small black stone outcropping on the walkway, same on the ledge across, above the entrance into the secret tomb. Jump down (takeing 25-30% falling damage) and run in. MAKE SURE TO USE JOURNAL BEFORE ATTACKING Somahryk! (or else you have to wait for him to repop...) Once you kill Somahryk you'll need to /search near the chests in the room for the first part of the Torn Journal. Search quickly though, as it has been said that Somahryk can respawn fast. Once you have that then return to Sordaya for your reward. Note: Mobs in the Crypt BAF for every 3/5/7 players in group, so optimal party is 2/4/6/8. A Shield tank helps a lot. Getting out of there again... seems to be best to go through the gargoyle, but you will need to fight up to 8-10 of them if unlucky. A lot of them are clustered around the Instance door, so it's not easy/safe to use the door to clear aggro. lvl 48 received 4,050,000,000 xp lvl 49 received 4,800,000,000 xp lvl 50 received 4,800,000,000 xp Champion lvl exp gained: 2,400 Rewards: |
