Failing Magic

DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Lady Eilwen says, "Another spelled failed. That has been happening more and more lately. I do not feel that my power has faded, nor do I detect it fading in Lurlei, yet together we only successfully cast half our spells, if even that many. And when we do cast protection spells around the armies, the Drakoran magic cuts right through them! Its like we have no resistance to their magic anymore! Lurlei and I fear that someone is [increasing their power] or weakening ours." Lady Eilwen sighs sadly. Lady Eilwen says, "It would not surprise me if either were the case, but who is behind it? Lurlei and I have been struggling with our spells since the arrival of the Inconnu. Oh I have heard the rumors that the Inconnu are not only here to steal our souls but our magic too. I have never heard anything more ridiculous in my life! The Inconnu are here to help us defeat with Drakoran. Why would they help us face our enemies if they only wished to destroy us? No, I believe there is [another force] at work." Lady Eilwen says, "Morgana, Friar. Plain and simple. She has found some way to boost the Drakoran's magical skills. Unless we can find a way to counter their magic and boost our own I fear that the spells that Lurlei and I cast to aid the armies in their fight will be no better than a child's first attempt at spell casting. But I believe there is [hope for us yet]." Lady Eilwen says, "I have been working with that Infiltrator, Dory. I know General Wystan thinks poorly of him, but Lady Lile has taken a liking to him. Of course, that may be just to annoy General Wystan, but who knows? Anyway, Dory learned of our magical problems and came to me to discuss the problem. He's been hunting for possible solutions and now it appears that [he has found one]." Lady Eilwen says, "He has sent a note requesting that I come speak to him immediately, but I cannot answer his summons. Lurlei and I have a meeting with General Wystan and Mistress Etheldreda to discuss the progress of our fight. Dory only attends these meetings sporadically, so if he is not there he will not be missed. I, on the other hand, will most definitely be missed, but the note said to come immediately. I am in a bit of a dilemma for the information is too important for me to miss. If only I had someone to [go meet with Dory]." Dialog box: You have been given the Failing Magic quest. Lady Eilwen says, "Thank you, Nesie! I shall not forget this. When you meet with Dory, tell him I sent you. In the meantime I will arrange for you to be properly rewarded for helping me out this way. I am counting on you to act in my name, Nesie. Make Avalon proud of you!" (Dory is at 43,000 X 58,000 in Caer Gothwaite.) Dory says, "You've got some nerve, Nesie? Speaking to me after what you did? Don't try to look innocent! You got me in trouble with General Wystan and if wasn't for the intervention of Eilwen and Lurlei he'd have shipped me back to Camelot by now. You had better have a bloody good reason for bothering me." Dory says, "Oh, so she did? She must not have realized that you were the one who got me in trouble with Wystan because I doubt she would have sent you otherwise. Let's see if you can keep your mouth shut this time if you're asked to. Now, since Eilwen sent you, I'm sure you know about [her little problem]." Dory says, "I've been working on solving that problem for her. See, I can do good things, contrary to what Wystan believes! In my, um, profession, I have quite a few contacts. When I heard the rumors that the Inconnu were responsible for Eilwen's failing spells, I asked around and got an answer from a fine Cabalist. She assured me that the Inconnu were not responsible for Eilwen's problems. I bet you think I'm lying, but I'm not! Brishene is an Inconnu and I think she knows what she's talking about. Brishene is not one to lie, even if she is a member of the Guild of Shadows! She identified the cause as Morgana and has begun to [search for a solution]." (remember the Information Quest? Well Dory remembers your choice, I chose to rat him out to General Wysten again, I still see no change in the quest) Dory says, "Since Eilwen is not here, I guess I'll have to tell you of what Brishene has found so far to help with the solution. She spent good gold getting this information, so keep your mouth closed and your ears open! Long ago, before the coming of the Drakoran, a cabalist named Meical became fed up with the war raging between the three lands. He had seen too many friends and enemies die and it pushed him over the edge of sanity. He became obsessed with creating life, not destroying it. Meical fled the mainland for the Dales of Devwy and built a hall to lock himself away [from the world]." Dory says, "Yes, Meical did not want to have any dealings with the people of this world. Instead he set about fulfilling his obsession. Using his magical skills, he began to create new creatures out of rope and wood and metal. But Meical's insanity warped his magic and over time the creatures developed the same insanity that possessed Meical. The creatures rose up and killed Meical, then spread into the surrounding area where they still roam today. But [Brishene discovered] something about those creatures." Dory says, "The magic that animates them seems to be undimished, unlike the magic of the Avalonians. Brishene doesn't know why, but she's trying her best to find out what's going on. Since you ratted me out to Wystan before, you're going to make up for it now! Brishene thinks there's a sphere of metal [in the creatures] that contains a bit of their magic and she wants to study it." Dory says, "Brishene asked me to get the spheres from the forged servants that roam around outside Meical's Hall. She wants two so she can conduct her experiments on them. I need you to go out and get the spheres for Brishene. Wystan is watching me closely so I can't leave the Caer to go do it myself. When you have the spheres, go to Brishene at Wearyall Village. She will be waiting for you there." Kill 2 Forged Servants (loc 54,53), take them to Brishene in Wearyall. The servants were just inside the Dales of Devvy (horse to Fort Gwyntell) on the right side of the road in woods slightly. As a theurgist I was told to kill 2 crafted apple gatherers to obtain 2 metal spheres. I found them just S of Fort Gwyntell. You receive a metal sphere from the forged servant! Go up to Fort Gwyntell, take horse back toward Wearyall Village. Brishene says, "Greetings, Nesie. Dory sent word to me that you would be coming to see me and be bringing me the spheres that I need. Please give the first sphere." Brishene says, "Good, now the second one?" Brishene says, "Thank you, Nesie. I will begin my experiments but I wish I had [my pendant]." Brishene says, "It is a pendant that allows me to focus my magic so that I may use it better. Dory wanted to borrow it to show it to Eilwen but some petty thief stole it from him before he could return it to me. I have [tracked its location] but I must begin working right away or I would go retrieve it myself. Every minute I delay hurts Eilwen and the Avalonian armies." Brishene says, "Apparently the thief either traded it or lost it to the hands of a Drakoran because I've tracked it to one of their camps. There is a Drakoran there named Barak. My sources tell me that you will find Barak in the camp that lies east from the great tree of Wearyall Hill. I must have that pendant if I am to do my research correctly. I can start without it, but it will be better with it. Return to me when you have my pendant." Ok the journal was very precise as to where to find this mob at. Have your resists up to par, he chain casts. Barak says, "Dory...will...pay...for...this...give...me...back...the...pendant...." You receive Brishene's pendant from Barak! Barak dies! Brishene says, "That did not take as long as I expected, Nesie. Were you able to obtain my pendant?" Brishene says, "I am in your debt. This will allow me to continue working with the second mechanism that you brought me. I have been able to discover that Meical imbued the spheres of each creature with magic from a source other than what the Avalonians draw upon. It is a powerful source that Eilwen may be able to use if we can discover a way to tap into it. I shall continue my research and hopefully have good news for Eilwen soon. Until then, take this report to Dory so that he may know what is going on." You receive Brishene's report from Brishene! Now, journal updates to return to Dory Dory says, "You took your time getting back here, Nesie. I still wonder if I can trust you. Hopefully you weren't off reporting my every move to Wystan again. I see you carry a scroll with you. Is that my death order or something else?" Dory says, "Hrmph. It appears that you did a decent job for Brishene. She says she's learning quite a bit about those creatures of Meical's. I have another meeting with Eilwen soon and I shall share this information with her. I still don't like you, but Eilwen seems to. She sent over weapons that were saved when Avalon was destroyed. You are to [choose one] that suits your needs. I hope I can trust you to continue to help Eilwen with this problem, Nesie." Dory says, "Now listen closely, for you can only choose one and once you make your choice you can't change your mind. You may choose from one handed [slashing], two handed [crushing], or a [thrusting] polearm a slashing [flexible] weapon, a [long bow], a [quarterstaff], or a [caster staff]?" Dory says, "Here is your Gem Flecked Quarterstaff. Use it well, Nesie." You are awarded 75 silver and some copper! You are awarded 13,211,232 experience! You have finished the Failing Magic quest. lvl 26 received 5,767,168 exp. Rewards: |
