The mail only drops for classes that can wear chain.
So it wouldn't drop for a paladin, scout, etc.
This has been confirmed.

We decided to go and get it together, met at keltoi and grouped with 5 green lowbies, lured them in to Dai room so the cats had something to eat while we killed dai. As i sayd we were both in the same group and we only had to kill dai once, after that we both got in in out inventory.

The Battlemail is one of a number of one off drops. You don't need to initiate a quest at all but you get an item by killing the mob and you only recieve the item once for killing said mob.
There appears to be lots of drops like this. So far Ive seen: -
Dai / Keltoi fogu - Keltoi BattleMail.
The Ghostwalker / Salisbury - Embossed Gladius.
Cheshire / Snowdonia - Catskin Boots.
And Ive heard from multiple sources about the BP of Legion which is along the same lines...

Just to confirm. My Merc was in a group at lvl 25 when we killed Dai a few times, no Battlemail. While in another group I hit lvl 26. When we killed Dai the Battlemail appered in inventory. So it looks like you must be 26+, and it will always drop once Dai is killed. Happy hunting!

Perhaps you should check your facts before you start typing, but "obviously you do not". The Battlemail drop is like the Breastplate of The Legion drop. Even though you do NOT have a quest for it, once you kill the mob in question, you WILL get a message stating you have finished a quest and receive the item. And like any quest item, quality is 100%.
Only took me 3 tries to get the Breastplate of the Legion :)

The person who posted last and listed the two so-called requirements he thought up... your friend told you that he got a msg syaing the quest was completed and the item was automatically received. If you are lvl 30 you should understand how quests work in this game but obviously you do not. Only way to receive a quest item is to actually do the quest...

WRONG! You can also get items know as one time drops, this happens to be one. If you kill Dai and are level 26+ I believe, you should automatically get it.

I was told by a friend that at 26th level I should go to the pit room beyond the ant room at the very bottom of Keltoi. That is where Dai resides and by killing him a message states that you have finished a quest and a Battlemail BP would just appear in my inventory. I want to solo the guy and gain some levels so I decided to wait until 30. This way I could also get the Mortification Platemail(spelling)BP from Daoic in the Catacombs and the Battlemail from Dai back to back. Well at 30 I killed Dai 24 time and did not recieve the Battlemail at all. But a Mercanary friend of mine at 28 killed him and got it on the second kill of Dai. So i believe it has 2 requirements:
ONE-it is a class specific drop.
TWO-it does not always drop in your invenorty every time(it can) but most likely you will have to kill Dai more than once.
If any plate-wearing class has obtained this item I would like to know because after 24 kills in 3 hours I finally gave up. Thanks.

I believe this is the cleric only drop from Dai that folks talk about. At 30+ a cleric can go kill Dai and this should automatically go into their inventory like a quest item. It will say you finished a quest even though you never got it. The Decurion in the Catacombs works the same way, drops a Breastplate of the Legion for Armsman after 30+. Perhaps the Dai drop is after 25 though since you leave Keltoi for Catacombs at that time just as you leave Catacombs for Barrows at 30. Usually. :)

From what Warcry says it drops off of Dai when you are 26+, its rare drop and it does not drop for everyone.

It's been awhile since I've been to Keltoi but I believe this drops off of Kai once you reach level 25. (If I spelled his name right he is past the 100k room in the caves). Its a automatic quest once you hit 25

I know from my experience in keltoi that not all mobs drop all items, as much as it tends to be random. I have never received a mantle drop from the initiate/gremlins, I have only seen em drop deeper off of higher lvl mobs. Has anyone seen this drop, and if so what mob? This is a great item drop considering its keltoi, its basically masterpeice enchanted mithril chainmail with a hit bonus, not sure I even believe it.

My cleric at level 26 had this appear in inventory after killing Dai in Keltoi. He is located just past ant room. It is an awesome bp.

This drops off of Dai at level 26. It will only drop for chain classe just as the bp in the cats only drops for plate classes. You don't need the quest to do it. I got mine first time nice piece for that level.
