Hill Cat Hunt

DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest. You must complete the Traveler's Way quest before getting this one. This is the level 11 epic for Warriors. Thordia asks you to bring him back some hill cat teeth. Head out and hunt the cats until you get five of them and bring them back to Thordia. He will then send you to Hrrgyf in the Vale of Mularn to fashion them into some gauntlets. The following is only a part of the dialog. Thordia says, "I have given you a task! Prove yourself worthy or bother me no more." Thordia says, "I assume you have more?" Thordia says, "This would prove sufficient, if you were a child!" Thordia says, "Much better, yet I am still not pleased." Thordia says, "Much better, yet I am still not pleased." Thordia says, "I am well pleased. I do require more of you, if you feel [worthy of the task]." You are awarded XXXX experience! Thordia says, "Seek Viking Karl at the tower in the hills. He will explain what needs to be done." [Step #3] Seek out Viking Karl at the guard tower in the mountains and aid him in his plight. Viking Karl is located at 17500, 49700 in front of the guard tower. Viking Karl says, "Ah, are you the one Thordia has sent me? Are you [on the hunt]?" Viking Karl says, "?There is one vile beast that has feasted on many of my men. Thordia has promised me a great warrior. Kill Hrrgyf, the hill cat that roams the mountains here. Bring me her tooth, as proof of your deed." [Step #4] Prove value as warrior by bringing Hrrgyf?s tooth back to Viking Karl Hrrgyf can be found at loc 12,26, it's on the hill next to Darkness Falls entrance on the way from Karl to Svasud Faste. Viking Karl says, "My thanks. Take this small reward my men have collected in hopes you would succeed. Thordia will be pleased. I am sure she will reward you when she sees you again." You are awarded 3 silver and some copper. [Step #5] See Thordia, and tell of great deed! Thordia says, "I have heard of your great deed! You have killed Hrrgyf! For that, I shall honor you! Take this gift, granted only to the greatest warriors! I shall speak your name to Tyr!" You are awarded XXXX experience! You receive Blessed Warrior Gauntlets from Thordia! You have finished the Hill Cat Hunt quest. Reward: |

I killed a couple of hill cats and there he was. Killed him and then a few more cats while the camp bonus was half decent.... and about three kills later there he was again. I left him up that time in case another warrior needed him.
The location is on the 'shoulder' of the mountain where people take a shortcut across to get from Svasud Faste to Darkness Falls.

ok, i read somwhere that Hrrgyf did not pop up with a name. it only showed as "hill cat". is this true or is it actually named?

Ok, nevermind, he does pop named. but durring the many hours i spent killing hill cats thinking this i ended up getting the mystical beast eye. can't remember the stats on it but it's nice and i'm still useing it at lvl 18. i finally go frustrated when he didn't pop so i logged and when i came back there he was standing around like a big dolt just waiting for someone to kak him.

Well the Cat Hrrgyf can be found on the Way to Gna Faste (from Mularn), as soon as you arrive the lake and you see a camp to the right, climb the hill on the left. There are many other Hill Cats. Hrrgyf spawns there (not at the highest top,i think its 2/3 on the way to the top)

That's Vindsaul Faste -- or perhaps Svalund Faste -- you're talking about. Gna Faste is down south, in Myrkwood.

I have spent an entire day waiting for that cat to spawn and I never did. Kept getting killed by mobs of yellows. Went up the snowy hill on the left side of the lake, accross from the vendo camp. Loc=12261, 26351. Never saw the cat there, lots of others though. If anyone has anymore info, it would be much appreciated.

Ive been looking for this cat for 2 days!
I know im in the right place cuz im across from the vendo camp and ive stood in the loc listed.
Im on the Monsterous Beast quest. cant find the ******* and i keep getting mobbed by yellow and orange hill cats

This is not the named cat quest, Jsut a quest for 'hill cat' teeth. 5 of them. Return with them & then have fun finding Karl

OK, so was it obvious that I hadn't talked to Karl when i posted that? ok, Karl is at Loc=17591,49768,5205 Dir=36 :)

I'm the person who couldn't get this quest until level 13. A CSR finally answered my /appeal and she said that in order to get this quest, you must have first completed The Monstorous (sp?) Beast Quest.

I just finished this quest and thought I'd give a few tips.
Thordia is in Jordheim and is the female Dwarf warrior outside the door to a building near the merchant tents [when u zone in from Mularn take a left and go to the merchant tent area]just ask a guard [/where thordia] if u need directions.
Head up to Fort Veldon area or around the lake near Svaste Vaude and kill hill cats till u get the 5 teeth u need.
Viking Karl is in the fort off the road that leads NOT to Fort Veldon but the other way [sorry for the poor description] when leaving from Mularn and is NOT the fort you can see from Mularn but a ways farther along.
Hrrgyf [hill cat]is on the mountainside on the left side of the lake up the slope from the road as you head to Svaste Vaude [Northern Frontier Fort] and is quite easy to find but there is a lot of hill cats around so it pays to be careful. She conned yellow to me at 11th level. I found her in the daytime right away, so is not a night spawn.
The end reward is gloves that give +3 str and dex [cant figure out why dex stats and not quikness stats...???].
Hope that helps someone a bit.

I have just started this quest and went to get 5 hill cat teeth.. when i gave them to thoria.. she sent me of to talk to viking Karl in a mountian outpost.. anyone know where karl is?

I was unable to get this quest until level 13, even though I visit Thordia every time I level. I am a dwarf warrior. I still have an appeal into Mythic regarding the fact that I couldn't get this quest at 11. Perhaps they just saw my appeal in the queue (which described the problem) and tweaked something in their database to make it work for me now. However, even though I got the quest, my appeal is still in the queue. So if they did tweak a database for me, then they didn't removed my appeal from the queue.
If you can't get it at level 11, keep trying. If you still can't get it at 13, then you might want to appeal.

I was unable to get the quest from Thordia. /Appeal told me to finish the Travellers Way quest. I did that and finally Thordia coughed up the quest.

yes the cat is up there on the southwest in the snow by lake... but i didnt get any gauntlets.. he told me to take a not to some guy and he payed me a lousy 9 silver with exp... pretty tough kill for me at level 10... yellow to me... and lots of potential adds.. cats all over the place

If you look at the map that came with the box.
Follow the left(west) road in V.O.M. up(north) and it will curve around a snowy mountain with a lake on the left. To the right on the mountain is the hill cat spawn somewhere in there is the named cat.

Hyrrgyf spawns on the SW part of the snowy moutain chain by the lake.

Pretty frustrating running around all those mountains near the lake looking for this named cat. We hunted for him for pretty much an hour and gave up. If you know where he spawns can you be a little more precise on where he spawns at?
Certainly. He spawns quite rapidly on the mountain off of the SW corner of the lake. This is the one that sticks out on a corner almost where the path begins to curve onto the lake itself. Head up into the area there and he should show shortly. I was doing a little solo work against kitties in that area (after doing the quest once myself) and saw him roughly every twenty minutes or so.

As a beserker, along with a healer friend I received this quest from Vik. Hyrrgyf spawns in vale up near lake along the mountains that you follow to the gate. Our reward was 9 silver and some exp for both a beserker and a healer, our warrior friend got the gauntlets.

That makes no sense. There is a merchant named Vik on the road from Mularn to Vasudheim (assuming you go west and around, and not through Jordheim) that talked about a giant cat who stole his Yellow Canary book. The cat's name is Hrrgyf, and I found and killed it up top a mountain in the middle of the Vale of Mularn.
