Gib and Scrip were Yellow to a level 7. I pulled Gib while my pet kept Scrip distracted.
Level 7 received the Dull Black Gem, 480 experience, and 4 silver.

Tric will now give out this reward as part of the quest. Tric, (In building #1, on the daatlas.com map; loc= 54327, 15799) is a Kobold in Vasudheim and was attacked by a goblin called Gib. Gib stole his list of spells and would like them back. Gib is on the hill on the left when leaving Vasudheim and normally has a henchman or two. The reward for the return of the list is silver and experience. This is good for all classes, and levels higher than 4 will kill Gib in one hit. You may have to talk to Barkeep Banak to start this quest. He is located at #3 on daatlas.com map for Jordheim. Barkeep Banak says, "Tric is going on about his lost book! Something must be done!" Tric says, "You look the friendly sort. Perhaps you [can help] me?" Tric says, "I lost my [book of spells] in a battle. I am in no condition to recover it." Tric says, "It was a battle against a great goblin called Gib and his followers. The rest of my party was slain in battle. I was wounded and forced to retreat to this town. If you could [recover it] I would be grateful." Tric says, "Many thanks. To find the place we battled, follow the road out of this town until you reach the main road. Turn left and continue for a few paces. You should notice them." Dialog box: Do you accept the Tric's Lost List quest? You have been given the Tric's Lost List quest. Tric says, "Keep your eyes west of the road to ensure reinforcements do not flank you." [Step #1] Locate and slay Gib along with his followers. He was last seen around the left fork of the main road. From Vasudheim, Gib is on the road past the Thrall Keeper, loc=36286, 9436 to the right on a hill. You receive a Tric's Spellbook from Gib! [Step #2]Return the book to Tric. Tric says, "You are truly well trained! Fare-thee-well in your future travels." You are awarded experience! You are awarded 4 silver and some copper! Ok- I am a level 7 Valkyrie and I got this quest at level 7. The area around where this Gib is all yellow, orange, and red aggressive monsters...
Not to mention Gib himself is yellow, as well as Scrip- his wolf friend. The little water goblin thing with him is gray. They all come when you try to pull just one, so I got my @ss handed to me.

In order for my lvl 7 Hunter to get this quest i needed to talk to the barkeep, and clcik on [adventure] twice before he told me Tric needed help. The Item Tric gave me was a "Dull Black Gem" +6 Dex, 1% Spirit, it is a lvl 6 magic item.
Tric gave me a "Dull Black Gem" +6 Dex. and 1% Spirt cons "yellow" at lvl 7. I needed to talk to the barkeep first, I had to press the [adventure] twice before he told me Tric needed help. Once I did this Tric gave me the quest.

My 6 lvl Troll Shamen got a paper sac to give to someone named Unn "West of here". So question a) who the heck is Unn cuzz "west of here" is a big place and b)My 5 lvl norseman zerk got the list quest so does it matter what race or class you are? Anyone know?

Once i was hunting with some friends then i saw this tunderbone guy run past and gib,a i think lupine snarler and a water goblin was chasing after him so i just decided to kill him. Then by the time i launched my first magic spell thunderbone was already dead so they all chased after me. Lukily there was a healer in my group and ithink there was also a viking so they helped me and we killed them.Of course i didn't even know about the quest yet.

I just received and completed this quest at level 7 just to see if i could. got .2 bub exp and 150 copper.

I just tried to get this quest as a Troll Thane, level 5; Tric didn't even try to talk to me.

Tric told me I was "too new of this world" to help him at level 3, but he gave me the quest at level 4.

I was running out of Vasudheim and this newbie ran past me followed by this little 1 foot yellow thing... I click on it and it was "Gib" and Gib was kickin this newbies butt...
So I switched weapons and whacked him once... Little did I know I was going to do 49 +9 damage to him and splattered Gib into a million pieces.
He gave me the book and that was the end of that...

It can be very frustrating to try and find Gib during the day when many players are on. Gib seems to be on a long spawn timer and so camping him is difficult (there's nothing really interesting to kill in the area if you've leveled past 5 but haven't yet completed the quest).
When Gib does spawn, he's often whacked by a newbie. I often see Gib up durin the night when no one is around though, so if you are having trouble try him then.
The quest reward is just coin and XP and isn't very rewarding at higher levels...it's best done early if you can find Gib. I didn't do this one until level 10 because Gib was never up.
I've heard a rumor that there is another quest from Tric that depends on you completing this quest, but I'm not sure if that is true.

His timer is not all that long. After I killed him & got my reward in town, I returned to the same area and he was already back up. The real problem I think is that he is very hard to see from down below - just a grey blob that blends into the hill. It doesnt help that there are a lot of spawns in this area that are close to or obscure Gibs spawn point.

To answer my own question, let's head out of Vasudheim along the road. When you get to the first intersection, turn left and go a few steps down the road that way. Gib will spawn on the hillside to your immediate right.
Also note that Gib is accompanied by a little water goblin (green at level 4) and Scrip, a named wolf (gray at level 4). Gib himself was green at level 4, and my level 4 Viking had no trouble killing his whole motley crew.
