DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Frederik Rolby in Gothwaite Harbor says that a Drakoran scout has been spotted a little to close to Gothwaite. He sends you to speak to Ely in Caifelle. Ely tells you that you can find the scout East of Anniogel and Northwest of Caifelle. The Wandering Drakoran Scout can be found around 47324, 21517. Kill him and he drops a sealed letter. Read the sealed letter (Put it in your quickbar and use it.) The sealed letter talks about a Drakoran leader, Ariach, that has plans to attack Gothwaite. Your journal will update telling you to decide what to do next. Take the sealed letter back to Ely in Caifelle. Ely now offers you a choice. You can either let the defenders of Gothwaite handle the threat, or you can kill Ariach yourself. Ariach can be found around 4k, 30k (Note: mentioned to be a night spawn only). Kill him and he will drop the attack plans. Take those back to Frederik Rolby in Gothwaite Harbor. I received 463,400 experience and 7 silver and some copper for completing the quest. I accidentally clicked for them to handle it themselves instead of choosing to kill Ariach and I didn't get any reward at all, and I really wanted this weapon. This seriously $#@!ing sucks.

He isnt just a night spawn. I happened to stumble upon the camp during the day (not expecting him to be there) and I had to fight for my life as him and a couple of his nearby cronies started beating on me. What I get for putting autorun on and glancing away for a second. After a tense battle (good thing I got alot of styles off) i was left with 5% health, a letter, and Arioch's greaves as a reaver. Hope this helps.

I killed Ariach around early morning
he conned grey to my 22 hunter
some of his minions where still green/blue to me
got the letter 463,400 exp and the Ariach's Gloves
conned still blue to my 22 hunter stats where
Dex 6 hits 12 exp was still good item noth worth doing

As for Ely not wanting the letter off the scout, after you read the letter, you try again to hand it to Ely and then he'll prompt you for whether you will or will not help further. I ran into the same road-block, but after reading, I tried again just to see, and Ely came up with the prompts.
Ariach spawns on the north side of the first tree going south from the drakoran neophyte tent (approx. 4k, 30k).
Regarding Ariach's spawn time...I had read all of these comments about when Ariach spawns, but after completing the quest, I don't believe there is a set time. I parked myself just east of the shoreline out of aggro range, between the two trees (due south of the tent where Martley spawns for the level 11 "Shades and Shadows" quest) and was pulling the drakoran border watchers (green, blue, some yellow to level 14) to pass the time. The first time Ariach spawned was probably right around dawn - I'd estimate 6h - but I was hip-deep in 4 watchers. (Pet had gotten silly and run himself at them when I was getting a drink and aggro'd all in the area.) By the time I finished them off, regained a little power, and turned to pull Ariach, the bugger had despawned. I stuck to just pulling the northern-most tree spawns to make sure I was ready when he popped again, and he popped just a few minutes later (maybe 12h?). So I don't think there's a definite spawn time set. I recall completing the Shades and Shadows quest during the nighttime and looking south to see him standing there. Just sit tight and wait, or pull some border watchers to pass the time until he does pop, and make sure you pull him within a minute or so of him popping to avoid despawn and more wait-time. He was a pretty easy kill for being a named yellow to a level 14. When he died, Robes of Arawn appeared in my inventory, as well as the plans needed to complete the quest.

he spawns at dawn not night
I found him south of the tent only at night. Cleared the area previously but he only spawned at night... don't even try during the day.

Ariach's camp is along the shoreline from Goth harbor. Go past the sea curs, urchin hooligans and guargan whelps until you see some draks standing under some trees. Beyond that you'll see a tent & Ariach is standing in front of it.
He was yellow to me at 14, and the draks around him were blue/yellow.
I hung around for a bit after I killed him and got some good weapon/armor drops within 15 mins.
If you want a bit of a challenge there are some draks on the east side of the camp that con red. :)

For my level 14 Wizard:
Found him -- he conned yellow -- and killed him during daytime; on killing him, received the letters plus a Messengers Staff which conned orange (Slash 4%, Power 4%, Cold 1%). On completion of the quest, received 90, 112 xp plus 7 silver and some copper.

When i did this with my Friar, Ariach only spawned at night. So, dont bother going there during the day, real boring waiting for him to spawn.

the staff is called Ariachs Purged Staff with 4%crush and +2staff

Ariachs loc given in the quest description is wrong, the correct ones are 4180,30421, this is the tree to the southwest of neophyte camp on shoreline.

I did the quest and received " Ariach's Gloves " as an Minstel

On the european servers this quest is bugged. You need to kill Airoch twice (he respawns very fast), he drops the plans and your journal updates the second time he dies. This does mean that you'll end up with two sets of the quest reward.

Araich's (something) staff was placed in my inventory as a friar on killing Araich.
it 6dps, 3.6 speed, +staff and some other bonus' - better than charred bone staff I was using before.

I also got a robe when i killed araich that had some int on it.. i think it was called a stole robe of arwen or something like that i will have to check up on it

Recieved Ariachs Greaves as a Paladin, also Ely did not want letter, had to read it and decide on my own what to do.
