your a level 7 or 8 or 10, or even 15.. and you say skills are useless? who are you to judge anything, when your so low you cannot know.. im a 42 arms on nimue and i use enrage so much its not funny.. and + skills are adding to your skill lvl thus adding to your overall damage. like an extra week in training in camp, about 5-10 xtra damage a level, at your levels, like 20-25 at higher levels.
What skills and specs should I invest in with my lvl 5 Pally? Right now I have 4 points in slash and 2 points in shield, but what is best: crush, slash, or thrust?
OK i play a lvl 37 pally and i reccomend keeping chants at your level until lvl 30 so u can rez, then have slash and then shield. so at level 50 i plan to go 50 slash, 45 chants( last heal chant), then 35 in shield and rest into parry.
The info in the table above is not all accurate.Dont take it as gospel intil you have tried it and know its true. These pages are more or less worthless. Will someone check them for accuracy??????
I just recieved the side slicer ability today. It IS a side attack. It even says it when you right click it, plus I have tried it and it only works from the side. I don't know about being a good attack though because it seems to do almost the same damage as cross slash.
when it says high bonus damage, does that vary from skill to skill? like do riptose and diamond do the same damage? if so then WTF is the point of raising this skill? it seems like if you have high shield block and use riptose, you have no reason to go up to diamond. so you could have 18 slash and max in both shield and parry and you would never get hit.
I am Playing an Armswomen and this is the way to go. Since Polearms are a the highest damaging weapons in Albion and perhaps all of DAoC I decided to go for a Strong offense so Max Polearm. By raising my skill in Polearm I gain new polearm styles and raise the Max Damage my polearm does. Now here is the interesting part I am also maxing slashing. Since every polearm has a damage type (ie Pike=trusting Lucian Hammer=Crushing and Halberd=Slashing) by increaseing my slashing skill I increase the minimum damage I do with my polearm. By Maxing both of these skills I end up with a tremedous damage output.
I am a level 8 armsman and i have put points into slashing enough to give me uppercut, what confuses me is the little amount of damage bonus given.Should it be less than numb? I hit with +7 and up with numb and with uppercut I hit for 6 and under.. . . .. ..
There is an error with how Riposte is defined above. Riposte only works after a block, not a parry. I verified this with my Paladin... Not sure if it varies from class to class tho...
That is correct you can use Riposte when you successfully block with your Shield using an Armsmen. However I tried using Riposte after parry and it does not work.

Why need so many skills when they all do the same amount of damage. I simply use upper cut + cleave most of the time.
Another thing is all shield combat skills do the same thing except from a different angle. Why do we need so many again. I simply use numb all the time.
Slash, thrust, crush etc... all have their places, it all depends on yer opponents armor type. When you hit a creature and do x(y) damage, "y" is the bonus damage vs that armor type. If you hit a snake with a slashing weapon and see you hit for 30 (-3) damage, the -3 is because you used a slashing weapon (thrusting would do +3 or so). At the same time you never want to fight a skeleton with a thrusting weapon :) Yrth Bors Server
Note that when in the training window, when it says "6" next to something, you are actually lv5 and that is the option to train UP TO 6. Check your skills in your special abilities window. I get the feeling that some people dont realize this.
This is an error I've seen in all posts. I'm pretty sure Ripsote is off a shield block. However, all official sources states it as off a parry. Go figure.
Just noticed someone put a posting saying that u get a more varied selection of arrows if you follow thrust over slash skill. Allow me to just set the record straight so players dont go wasting time. The slash/thrust mentioned with each arrow type is in NO way connected to your melee skill, it is only mentioned as to the vs'armour the arrow will encounter when hitting its target. Hope this helps
I believe what the getn above is tyring to say is: Some weapons give you bonuses to your particular spec level such as sword that gives a +2 to slash. When you look at your skills window it will show a green number. This means that the spec has been magically altered. While your spec in green shows a lvl of 8, you have to have a base level (no magical enhancement) of 8 to get a style. Example If i am level 6 in slash and have a +2 sword it will show up as green 8 in slash, but i will only have the skills Ruby slash, cross slash, and uppercut.
Is it just me or do the thrust styles just seem to suck in comparison to these. In thrust skills there are no low stamina attacks except one's that have to be done after you evade an attack, or that are the second or third part of a chain. I made a scout using thrusting. I'm gonna delete him and make a slashing scout. Just seems like these styles are a heck of a lot better.
Don't delete so fast. Evade I isn't the best, but wait until you get Evade III. Having to perform the attack following a successful evade is not that demanding.
You're also going to find that your Scout will be disappointed with his melee damage at higher levels, if you focus upon slashing. Slashing damage receives a bonus from Strength stats... not something a Scout is going to excel at. Stick with the faster Dexterity based weapons. You'll be a lot happier at higher levels.
