Containment Bay Z1T9 extremeFollow

So I have all the prerequisites for it. I found it in the Raid Finder. How different is it compared to other raids in Duty Finder? I saw that there are settings for practice, progression, and such. What does a first timer need to know?

Know how Soar works

Tethers are simple enough to look up a guide and figure out, or just work out with your party how to handle them. The thing that tends to annihilate pugs is handling Soar badly.

My content static spent maybe three or four nights working on this... we didn't beat it, but we did make it to the tethers phase.

Yes, definitely get familiar with soar... however, the real challenge is finding seven other people who'll all be on the same page and won't get frustrated after a few consecutive failures, which is virtually guaranteed to happen.

I was up at 4am on patch day. At 4:30 I was entering learning parties for Zurvan EX. Very first party I was in: one wipe -> someone leaves.

I'd say I was surprised except I really shouldn't be.

In a game where death is a slap on the wrist, I really don't get why people are so upset, especially in a raid, that a wipe occurs. Seriously.

I could maybe understand some easy trials battle or something that's been out for awhile that people really should know better (especially if there's no newbie bonus), but a freaking raid? C'mon.

That, and people who show up with no dark matters and then go "Oh, I gotta go... my stuff's about to break" ... arrrrrrrrrrrgh.

This is the primary reason I got all my crafting levels up.

Carrying around a stack of dark matter is way easier than dealing with repair NPCs. I think it might also be cheaper but I've never checked.

Seems to me, the Repair NPC is cheaper, depending on how broken your stuff actually is. I think, IIRC, per piece if you need 50% or less repaired, the NPC is cheaper than a Grade 6 Dark Matter.

Though, if you wait until it's about to snap, you might be better off with the dark matters, dunno.

It also depends on the I-level too, I'm only ~220. I imagine a 260+ player probably pays a bit more.

Soar may be the first step, but my group found tethers to be conceptually easy, but more difficult in practice. A voice chat program helps a lot to coordinate. The main issue is that if someone dies in the tether phase, they will keep dying, but need to be raised to take a place in a circle.

My group went through a lot of tries, but I will say that there were some people who made me annoyed. They included:

The guy who was the only one who died to mechanics but complained about everybody else doing them.

The guy who told us right after we entered that he had "just smoked a bowl."

People who did not stack when they were asked. Repeatedly.

It really comes down to time, and I will admit to being less patient with those who waste my time.

Repairing your own gear also repairs it to 199% where the repair NPC is 100%.

Well sort of. Repairing your own gear adds 100% to its durability. So you get 199% if you repair at 99%.

I still find the reasoning that we can't a bit silly, but that falls in line with a lot of "we won't do x because (silly reason)" excuses. Essentially since the content isn't "on the servers" I believe is what it got localized to, a lot of systems (excluding battle system) isn't incorporated into the content server, so even if you could repair other people's stuff, it's just more data they'd have to shovel to us. It's why trading and other certain functions are disabled, since the only thing that happens when we move to content servers is it copies all of our data, which is why we could never queue with a chocobo out until they finally changed it a bit.

But since they seem to be bringing back more 1.0 stuff, won't be surprised if they introduce a way to do that, like the exampled 'repair npc in dungeons even though it wouldn't make sense", they need some way to get that system functioning on instance servers.

What we do on the JP DC I play on with my main (at least from what I've seen PUG wise) is Tank and his/her partner will always go left (his left) so generally "towards C" while an opposite element pair will follow slightly and the other 2 pairs separate since you don't need to be clustered after the southern cross, even without a voice chat program, someone generally can bait their partner a direction and hopefully they're paying attention.

This is one of the biggest reasons I hate keeping up with my Aether alt and why a lot of people I noticed want to "skip soar" because it removes a (fairly easy) mechanic from the equation, Since when zurvan ex came out, most people were already overgeared for it to the point you'd inadvertently skip mechanics anyway, for example it's virtually impossible to hit phase 2 wavecannon as that requires being at 90.5-100% when the platform breaks. Even doing it Item sync'd for example you're almost always going to skip that mechanic no matter what so if you're hitting that mechanic ontop of 2-3x soars in 2nd phase, it's going to ruffle some feathers lol.

Yeah I get that, and it's not even totally unreasonable now that the fight is well understood. But at the time the fight was half an hour old and nobody completely understood it.

I do think it's important that the fight be clearable without being overgeared for it. So I encourage people to understand all the mechanics including Soar even if your group manages to skip the first one.
