When one character uses a health potion, is it supposed to also remove a potion from the supply on the rest of my characters? This seems like a bug since I have to spend a resource to replenish each non-standard health pot on each character.

Also, I can't seem to find the approval rating for each of my companions. Unless they decided not to include one this time around.

No Approval rating, they did not want people to game it. (Not sure how I feel about that) Standard potions are a a shared pool. All other potions are replenished by herbs for each individual party member such as Regen pots.

I left Hinterlands at level 6. Did Val Royale and it opened up so much stuff. I've been recruiting new companions all night with no troubles and just dinged level 7. Sword coast looks awesome. Dem waves yo.

I still kinda miss Leliana... even if she looks different I kind of want her to sing to me again. So I have been talking her up. I like Cass but she is redundant in my party. So I think Iron Bull is going to get her slot. MONSTER PECKS SMASH!

I also already got yet another SnB tank companion who is a grey warden. Some people seem to hate Sera but I think she is spiffy so far. I think I might save using her for my Femquisitor run though so we can be ***** elves together and just stick with Varrick as my ranged now.

Edit: lol it censored L e s b o.

I started crafting. It's not nearly as complicated as the game makes it sound. The stuff I've made is far better than anything I can buy. Some of the rare loot I've picked up is a bit better, but not by much. The only hard part is getting the crafting diagrams. You're going to need a good bit of money to buy them, or you're going to need to do a ton of exploring to loot them.

Ah, the standard RPG crafting model. Somehow I get the feeling that when I get around to getting the game, my first order of business is going to be figuring out how to break crafting.

Finally progressed in the story a bit! For a long while I was jumping between the Storm Coast, Fallow Mire, and the Hinterlands. I actually hit level 10 before going to Val Royeaux. I've now picked up Sera, Vivi (yes, I will call her Vivi, because she is LITERALLY A BLACK MAGE), Bull, and Blackwall. I've switched up my party to use Vivi and Blackwall... I was torn between keeping Varric or switching to Sera, but I like Varric too much. Sorry Sera, maybe when I can romance you next run...

As for their personalities, I'm a bit torn. First, I like Vivi... but she can't be romanced, which is too bad as I don't find the other female options (Cass and Josephine) as appealing. I also like her view on mages and their actions after Anders' fireworks in DA2. It perfectly mirrors my own views: he was a terrorist, and the mages who declared their independence immediately after Anders' actions were basically giving their support to mass murder.

Sera is hit-or-miss. Juvenile, but fun, personality. Iron Bull I think will be awesome, but I don't want to use him as a tank necessarily and I'd prefer a second mage to a second warrior in my party. Blackwall's history is going to be interesting, and I don't yet understand why Vivi dislikes him. I'm mostly using him instead of Cass just for a change of pace.

So, only two characters left to find. I think it'll depend on who I ally with first, the Templars or Mages? Just a guess. I have to say, I'm still feeling more sympathetic to the mages because Lucien is a jerkface, but Fiona is like a Mini-Orsino. Meh, we'll see.

I too started crafting, and that along with respeccing my mages made a HUGE difference in combat ability. As others said, now my own items are as good or better than what I've found. The enhancements were the best part, though I need more schematics... I heard there's a vendor for them in VR? I might have to go back and check.

Anyone buy the 10,000 gold mystery box? I'm sitting at like 9,700 right now and I'm tempted to...

As mentioned I also realized I was making some mistakes with my mages so I respecced. Putting points into the Winter tree helped a lot; Winter Stillness (+50% mana regen while standing still) means now instead of being constantly mana-starved I can cast a spell every few seconds. You can also get Fade Step to get to it, which is a mana-free 4 second cooldown speed burst; ideal for exploration or a quick escape. Spirit is still awesome... did I mention Dispel before? GET DISPEL. I hugely underrated this spell at first. It banishes enemies from rifts before the wave begins, it strips off enemy barriers (but not guard) and it heals negative status ailments. It makes Rifts MUCH easier, and fighting mages and demons with barriers simple as well. Get it! The rest of my Inquisitor's points are in Spirit and Storm, but I may respec again... the Inferno Tree seems great, and I'd love to get Fire Mine. And then once I get Knight-Enchanter I'll have to respec once again... oh well, worth it.

Now, if only I had thought as much about my other characters' trees as I did my mages'... oh well. I also need to learn how to better use cross-class combos. But at least I'm learning, and no fight recently has been too hard! Well, being level 11 now doesn't hurt either. I finally closed that darn level 12 elite rift in the Hinterlands that massacred my party at level 6, but I'm not brave enough to take on the dragon there yet.

Questions for the group:
1. Where is the last landmark in the Fallow Mire? I've found 4/5 and I've completed all the quests I had for the area. I don't see it on my map.
2. How do you get in the cave/ruin in the Storm Coast that has the red lyrium deposits in it? Presumably, at least. Between me and the deposits on the map is only mountains on one side, ocean on the other, and what looks like a closed entrance to a dwarven ruin in between.
3. Where are people finding schematics? Or buying them, at least. It is in VR, right?
4. What Inquisition Perks are people getting?

Random thoughts:
-I named my character Harold, so whenever anyone calls him the Herald, I imagine him whining "No no no, HAROLD, not HERALD!"
-If you haven't gotten to VR yet, you might want to get all the Codex +exp perks you can first. There are SO many Codex entries and things to read there.

I'm running a bit behind the curve here, I think. Level 5 or 6 and still in the Hinterlands but I think I'll be moving on tonight. Standard gamer nature makes you want to hang out in an area to clear it but there's way too much to do and parts of it are far above me anyway. Came across a rift last night spewing out level 12 demons and after a couple attempts to beat my head against that particular wall I started having a change of heart in my approach.

I discovered crafting early on and my warrior is sporting some snazzy Drakeore armor with a Fennic overcoat. Weapon schematics are harder for me to find although I got one for an axe last night that was 20% better than my current weapon. Made new armor for Cassandra, Varric and Solas as well. I'm not ashamed to say that I wasted considerable time hunting nugs just so Cassandra could have the white surcoat since I thought she'd look best in it. I found a rare suit of armor for Varric later on but it's only very nominally better (like the bonus stat a little more)

Crafting is interesting to me just because you have some game aspects narrowed down from DA:O like auto-gained attributes or fewer spell schools but then I'm sitting there saying "Do I want the Canine leather trim for +2.5% Flanking damage or the Ram leather trim for +1% Crit chance?"

There is one in VR for sure I was checking it out last night. The schematics are spendy though. I don't now how to get to the other side of the mountain spine on the coast yet either. I went up and down the beach enough to get Ibull and do a few random quests and ended up jetting out to keep collecting companions. Plan to explore it more tonight after work.

More stuff I've learned (mostly buggy things):

-That ruin door on the Storm Coast does open later on in a main quest. So I guess I've done everything there for now!
- The cooldown reducing talent in the Storm tree for mages (Gathering Storm) is not currently working.
-Fortifying Blast (Mind Blast upgrade that boosts your shields) is not working.
-If you run out out of mana while channeling Blizzard from the Winter tree, you cannot use Blizzard again even when you have the mana to do so. You can get around this by removing the ability from your bar and then putting it back.
-Disruption Field can only be cast while at full mana for some reason.
-Revive (the spell, or manually reviving) is channeled. I was wondering why it didn't work when I ran up to revive someone and they stayed down.
-An awesome way to kill a bunch of rift monsters quickly is to gather them around your non-Inquisitor tank, disrupt the rift to stun them, and then detonate them all with Dispel. Man, Dispel is amazing.
-When on a mount you don't take fall damage. Makes jumping off some cliffs a perfectly valid option to shorten travel times.

Crafting is OP, but the patterns are crazy expensive (I've only found one vendor that sells anything worth buying; he's in Val Royeaux).

The game isn't very keen on letting me know where I should be adventuring at any given level. Case in point, I was running around the Hinterlands at level 5 or 6 stomping out bandits, and mistakenly ran into an area with a dragon flying around. He charred the whole party in one hit. So far, the most useful ability is quicksave.

Edit: clarified some ambiguous wording.

You just need to wait for the DLC with the +50 approval gifts.

Speaking of, I demand to know what became of Schmooples. Also, the nice girl who once wanted Schmooples.

The more I think of it, the more convinced I am that my Warden must have really eff'd Leliana's head up in their post DA:O relationship Smiley: um

Lack of evidence to the contrary, I'm just going to assume that Schmooples is running Leliana's spy network in Orzammar.

I think I have an issue. I cannot leave side quests alone long enough to continue the main storyline. To give a mostly non-spoilery example, it took just about 35 hours for me to get to Skyhold. Most people do it in half the time, or so I've heard. Now I finally feel like the game is actually beginning, and it's almost overwhelming because I have about a half dozen new areas to explore, tons of side quests, and I just spent the last hour and a half chatting with my companions.

Speaking of which, the shine has quickly worn off with Vivienne. Unless I'm missing something, her defining characteristic is that she's a jerk to EVERYONE. My party for the last while has been her, Varric, and Blackwall, but she just squabbles with them. It's not even humorous. I think I'll switch her for Dorian, because that guy is hilarious.

I've completely finished up the Fallow Mire and the Wandering Oasis (although I need more shards for the temple, I finished the fire side to the end. I think besides the dragon and the quest to bring a flower to a grave I'm done with the Hinterlands. And now that Skyhold is open I think I can finish up Storm Coast. My party is level 13. And I had enough Power to open all the options on the table when I went to Skyhold.

I think I'll just take my time around the hold for a bit, chat with everyone, and then create some new gear since I have all tier 2 materials now.

Hell, I just hit Storm Coast today and picked up Cole, Iron Bull and that Warden guy who seems so boring I can't remember his name. If history is any guide, everyone just calls him "Warden" anyway Smiley: wink2

Cole is actually useful in that someone at Bioware figured out how to program melee rogue AI. Unfortunately this means I don't have a good reason to dump his Cure listening emo ass on the curb. I'm sort of hitting the same mental hurdle I had the first time in DA:O -- the game sets you up with a traditional party right off the bat: Warrior, Rogue, Mage so you don't have any immediate reason to replace one. Plus, your first warrior is nominally an important agent to your cause (Alister, Cassandra) so dumping them for some random Quanri you found seems crass. But I figured I wasn't doing anything diplomatic on the Coast so I'm running with Mr. Bull, Cole and Solas. Solas I don't give a turd about but I haven't gotten a replacement mage yet.

LOL, "turd" is censored.
