Talking about EA in the sales threads, so now talking about stuff here:

Have you ever backed a kick starter? Was it worth it?

I'm thinking about backing the "Edge of Eternity" game. Low-person indie group RPG. It looks nice, but rough (they actually had a "pre-alpha" demo. I installed it and it was really rough, but could be good.

I notice they had a failed kick starter campaign for the same game (with 5x the goal) a while back. Looks like this time they reached at least the first goal within a couple days.

I backed Star Citizen and the C&H Show. Still waiting on the former before making a call, but the latter was definitely worth it. I was also thinking about backing The Oatmeal's "Exploding Kittens" card game, but I have no one to play it with. Smiley: frown

I backed the Legends of Dawn Kickstarter. The game was remarkably buggy and poor and then was bundled.

I make jokes about the attractive "developer" they used in the promo video but that's not actually why I backed it, of course. It sounded as though they were going to do the same sort of thing that Divinity: Original Sin actually accomplished. And, you know, without wanting a $90 pledge just to get a base copy of the game.

I'll stick to the games I've backed:

Ouya - Delivered
SolForge - Delivered
Planetary Annihilation - Delivered
Project Eternity - In development
Conclave - Delivered
Sword of Fargoal 2 - In development/Delivered
Timber and Stone - In development/Delivered/Way past schedule
Dysis - Not delivered/Likely vaporware
Shadowgate - Delivered
Sui Generis - In development
Torment: Tides of Numenera - In development
Divinity: Original Sin - Delivered
StoneHearth - Delivered/In development
Tug - Delivered/In development
Robot Turtles (Board Game) - Delivered
Planets3 - In development

Games are the one Kickstarter area where I really haven't been ripped off, although I've received or plan on receiving almost everything I've backed, so I haven't really been ripped off on anything big. I felt like I got screwed by Ouya, even though I got my console. I genuinely want that company to fail because of the way it treated its backers towards the end of the project.

Edit: Apparently Kickstarter implemented public profiles, so here is mine if you want to check out any of the games.

I went ahead and backed the Edge of Eternity one. We'll see how it goes, I guess. The tiers weren't bad.

They can go bad and if they do you will be screwed. I have backed a handful of projects. All of them were good except for Supertoy. It was basically a Toy bear that was supposed to use a cellphone app to mimic lifelike conversations. Went even paid extra for a LE version that was supposed to be embroidered with a number (one of the first 300 made). What it ended up as is a bear that opens and closes it mouth to an app that is nothing more than Google talk. The LE we got was a cheap sticker stuck on a tag hanging out of the bears ear. Alot of people didn't even get a bear and Kickstarter did nothing to help. Basically if they take your money and don't deliver you are going to be left high and dry.

That being said I backed 3 or 4 other projects and they went smooth as silk. Just be careful.

I threw a few bucks towards the Reading Rainbow kickstarter. I don't pre-order games unless I like the franchise or source material, so I'm not going to give lettuce to a product that's barely a mission statement.

There was a big to-do this morning about a kickstarted game going under. Gimme a sec to go find it.
