My question is:
What made YOU want to join FFXI and what has given u the determination to go as far as you have gone in this game?

Well... my wife made me start.
She got persuaded by some of her friends to try it out, so we bought it last october. I played a little on a character on her account, but after soloing to 14, I kind of lost interest.

In February, after we got DSL installed (enabling both of us to play together), I went and bought another copy of the game, and now we both play it together.

The determination I have had to get to where I am now (character-wise) and to go further is smply that I enjoy it. It's a fun game.

I also have the ego-centric desire to eventually be able to walk around and know that people will /check me and say to themselves "wow, look at that guy!"
It may sound bad when I put it like this, but I am far from conceited. I simply want to impress.

I was impressed, when I first started out, by people I saw walking around in the gear that I now wear. I like the feeling of having reached that same place that I saw and admired in others when I was newer.

Well, my friend saw it on a shelf in Gamestop (P.C Verson) and then I was like "I dont have any money" So our other friend bought it, then We started from there, I slowly played, hardly taking interest until I saw Bastok. I was like, damn. Nice, then my friend started playing as WAR then i was like well, what else is in this game? Then i saw PLD and i was in AWE. I wanted it, I needed it.../drool then? I GOT it! So yeah, to answer the original question, my friends got me into it USING MY PC!! lmao

Final Fantasy on the old NES was what made me start. After that game, playing any FF sequel was a foregone conclusion. Well, except for Mystic Quest. I could have done without that. Oh, and I had a rough time when Square defected to the PS. But I got over it, and I'm doing much better now :)

Heh, yeah, always an FF player. Though I woulda been waiting for the european release, but a friend was nice enough to send me a copy ^^

And incentive to keep going? I enjoy it, and I've made alot of friends. That's really why I play online games, to get to know people and have fun, not to become amazing and beat everything (Though thats always nice too XD)

I have two reasons that I started playing.

I have always loved the FF series since the original 8-bit nes. Therefor it only seemed fitting that FFXI would as well rock. This is also my very first online gaming experiance, and that too made me want to try.

Another reason that I started was I needed an escape from real life. Honestly, some of the things I did to occupy my weekends where very very very bad. And I needed a really good distraction from them, something that would entertain me other than what I wanted to get away form. And it worked really well, being a complex, involved game helped me to keep away from what I wanted.

I keep playing now becasue its a great game, I have many great friends, and I have nothing better to do, as I work out of town. And my shcedule doesnt allow me to go out much, even if I did have/know people to go out with (everyone heads back home for the weekends, while I either work or stay in town mostly)

Like Dexx, what made me start is my love of Final Fantasy and a means of escape. Not only that, but to meet new people (some very interesting people I might add) and to make friends.

Hmm, well I've been a big fan of the series for a long while, I'd waited ages for XI since hearing of it (and would still be waiting if I hadn't got it imported) and so me and 3 friends in Scotland got the game and started playing at the same time.
Only me and Quay now, Rizzo and Bangor quit. I'm still enjoying it though, I really want to finish the main story and add-on missions, and get my AF etc.

I was actually very interested in FFXI since the beta, but soon found out it was only for NA. Later on when it was released, my bunch of online gaming friends decided to play it. At this point, I was kinda broke. ^^; I didn't join them, and had to go through months of feeling a bit left out as they all talked and discussed the game.

But as fate would have it, my brother's RL friend had also started playing FFXI from the beginning, and had convinced my brother to buy the game and join him. So, one day, my brother came home with a copy. He played for a day or two and kept telling me how awesome a game it was. So, with his nudging and some of my friends' encouragement, I decided to give it a go.

That was pretty much it, got hooked to the game as well. >.>a

As for what keeps me going... Well, as long as I have things to accomplish, and there's fun to be had - then I'm in. Recently managed to fulfil one of my long term goals, so that was cool. ^^ Also, playing with my LS members in a static PT is just so goddamn fun every time! Yay! *cheers*

I've always been a Final Fantasy fan, and hearing several of my friends highly anticipate this game made me excited enough about it to get broadband internet access and buy the game. What's kept me in the game is the friendship of the people in my Linkshell. They're all swell people, and I have a blast almost every time I log in and they're online.

I started playing video games for my 2 sons (to have something to talk about). I kind of went overboard and probably know more about alot of the games now than they do.

I preferred games like Diablo, Morrowind, Balders Gates etc. but my oldest son really wanted FFXI. He wanted to get the game so bad that he agreed to pay half of the game and half of the monthly fee. Vcool

Guess what, now we have separate issues on two computers and my wife plays as well. I wish SE would open up and allow 2 logins on the same account, I would buy a copy for our X-box so we could all play together. I refuse to pay for a third account.

    Anyway, game freak dad here......

I've always liked FF games, and my friend plays it too, so that got me started. What gets me to continue playing are the people I meet on the game, and (even though the game is basically a bunch of numbers) the excitement of fighting with a party; you never know what your party's thinking of doing, and so when you have good communication, the party's pretty fun. The quests and missions give me something to look forward to, and with the ever changing world, it's hard to believe Vana'diel's virtual.

FFXI for me was going to be a way to pass the time untill WoW/EQ2 came out. And those two games would be a way to pass time untill Vanguard comes out.

But, I like it. And it's fun to play.

Well I guess my RL friends really got me into it. I've always liked FF, still have the original FF1 NES cartridge. I didn't play any of them from 7 through 10-2 at all until recently, since I didn't have a Playstation at time of release. I like the return to the original job classes though. The reason I keep going is because I'm addicted. I thought about quitting when I got really pissed off at the game but my cravings are too strong.

I've just always enjoyed Final Fantasy games. I played EQOA a little bit, and the idea of a MMORPG Final Fantasy was just too good to be true!

What keeps me going? I don't know...I guess I'm just sadistic.
