Don't feel so bad. My PS2 crapped out in the middle of a BCNM. And I was on Sleepga patrol. Full party wiped out, Star orb wasted, and the PS2 was unrepairable. And to top it off... ...they've stopped selling the old style PS2 w/ the HDD and the new PS2's can't play FFXI.

So now I'm playing on my PC, which turned out to be a blessing in the end.

Hope you feel better.

There is a new-style PS2 that is thinner and has a built-in network connection for Ethernet or Dialup. The new PS2 also does not have connections for a HDD of any type. To add insult to injury for us FFXI players, the old-style PS2s are no longer being sold. You have to get a used system from somewhere.

Apparently, there weren't enough games to warrant a built-in (or even connections for) HDD. One of the Gamer magazines went as far to say the HDD2 was one of the biggest gaming flops of the last year.

So now I go searching for a used system to have for my wife, and in case mine craps out. Good hunting to all you prospective FFXI players!

If you are lucky enough to find a replacement PS2, and you decide to switch the hard drives to recover quickly. Think again, because you will have to do a complete reinstall. It happened to me.

Going forward, just buy a PC, the graphics are much better. Borrow the software from a friend and use your content ID's.
