So, it's been about HALF a month since I deleted my account, and I'm still hounded daily on AIM to reactivate and well... I gave in. -_-;;
There are a few things that I have missed greatly about FFXI and since recently all I've heard/read are bad things from people quitting, I'd like to state a few of the good things that make me love the game:
1. The community is wonderful. Granted, there will always be people that you don't get along with and don't like, but there will be people that you miss greatly. Since I left, I got emails from Booberry, Fahna, and Shir, I got PM's through another message board from Miao and Ausrine, I got messages through PoL and AIM from Likwid, Derricka, Dustyne, Renozuken, Marinedeath, Brady, Falconian, Kline, Fed, Liventhere and so many more. No matter how much you get frustrated at "noobs" or people that don't understand every little in and out of the game in the way that you do, there are always those people that genuinely care about your friendship, and that is a HARD thing to leave.
2. The game itself is well done. The graphics are amazing, the amount of effort and teamwork needed for it is classic Final Fantasy... you're just working with other real people instead of hitting L1 R1 and switching characters in and out.
3. The escape and the relaxation that FFXI gives me is unmatched in the other games I have. If I have a really bad day, I can go kill things, or I can talk to a friend. School's hard, and my homework sucks, and I thought that FFXI just took up my time, but after reviewing my grades and realizing that I'd played it pretty much ALL of my freshman year of college and still maintained well over what I needed to keep honors status, I think maybe that was just something I'd told myself to convince me to leave for whatever reason.
This game has a lot to offer, and whenever someone that's never played it asks me if they should try it out, I tell them absolutely. I've missed it, and well, I'm back.
But... a message to anyone that I gave gil/equipment to before I left: I do not expect any of that back, I gave it freely and willingly. I am ready to farm and to harvest my way back to my prior status, not to mention the fact that I still have the full BLM AF and have somewhere around 200 beastman's seals (BCNM60 anyone...?), so don't worry about me.

Back in April, I had to stop playing for a while because my grades were dropping. Then when school was over in May, I left in June for a month long stay in Thailand.
When I was there, I missed my friends sooo much. I remember seeing trees that reminded me of Giddeus and when they were helping me with Kazahm keys. ;-;
I came back in time for summerfest. I wasn't thinking that they would be so welcoming, but they were. Even though a lot of my friends have quit, I've made new ones. Sure, they will never be able to replace anyone, it's nice to have people to talk to.
It's so crazy how this game gives you so many fond memories!

It is very bizarre, indeed.
I have times where I'm about to quit, have a week absence then notice that I miss it.

I know exactly how you feel, I started in March, and quit in August, i didnt start playing until four months later )=... yeah I missed it, I quit cuz i got tired of ****** Linkshells. Since I started playing again, thats all I do when i get home. I had to reactivate my account, and earn all my money and get my armor back, and im doing just fine now.
Pax I met you once, in Giddeous... you showed me where the Theologist, and Priest were, so i could get my khazam pass, thanks btw... I know its been awhile, and you are prolly wondering how I remembered that, its cuz your name is soo simple, means "Peace." and I always remember those who help!
