Please read all of this before you comment, flame, rate down, or anything else.

Recently, having lunch with a friend, we were discussing these online RPG's. Mainly dealing with FFXI and another MMORPG that I will not name as I do not wish to sound like I'm trying to convert anyone. Neither of us had played what the other was, but we were throwing out all the pro's and con's of our game that we can think of.

When we were done, I started thinking...

I have played FFXI for the past year, and I think I have done very well for myself. However, lately it seems like any time I want to get into an EXP party, there is always at least one complete moron that ruins the entire night for everyone.

So then, I decided to take time away from leveling to do some quests. Now with 190 quests completed, I am completely bored, and have little to show for all my work.

So I then decided to try to organize either promyvion or zilart mission parties. Unfortunatly, this has been met with arrogance, stupidity, and impatience from all but a few people that would actually take time to help.

At this point, I have found myself at the point where I can say I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't. So last night, I decided fine, I'll please the crowd and level my ranger. Five levels into it, I said wait, wtf. I'm wasting my time leveling a job, just so I can get into a decent promyvion party, only because the majority of people are to stubborn to admit that any job class can do this well as long as it is a balanced party. Yes, I said it, ANY JOB. This includes DRG, DRK, THF, and ALL others.

So the conversation I had with my friend got me thinking more and more. There are alot of the same downfalls like stupid people, people that sell whatever thier money system is on that game online, and so forth, however, it seemed to be a little bit more thought threw then what Square-Enix had put together.

Don't Get my wrong, I love the final fantasy series. I have played all the console games straight through at least twice. But come on, fighting crabs for 60+ levels is really boring especially when they all look the same. Several zones are very similar looking. There just seems to be a severe lack of creativity and imagination in this game. It is not difficult to come up with new and unique things to keep players interested. Changing the color once in a while doesn't make it new.

And finally, the people of FFXI. There are alot of really nice people out there. However, this part is aimed towards the ****** elitists that set goals and standards that average people that do not make the game thier life cannot meet. This is a GAME. It is meant for FUN. These people do not understand this concept, and it ruins the game for alot of people.

These are the same people that jack prices up to ungodly amounts, basically ******** over people that they will eventually interact with in some fashion. Any time someone asks me why I don't have some specific item, meanwhile, they are decked out in over 15 million in gear, eating the most expensive food, and bragging about all sorts of things I tell them I do not have it, because it's probably chumps like him that made it impossible for me to get it.

Being an "elite" player by means of skill, hard work, and personal accomplishment is fine. Being an "elite" player by being greedy, selfish, a complete ****, and many other things only makes you a bigger ****** then you previously were.

I've decided at this point that since there is no such thing as hapiness in this game that I am going to take a week or so off, come back and give it to the end of February, and possibly change online games perminantly. At this point, alot of you who read this will have already made up your mind about me and will say good riddance. If you have talked to me in game, and gotten to know me even in the slightest, you would find this to be a shock.

What this boils down to is, everyone needs to look at how they play this game. There are alot of people leaving not because of the difficulty of the game, or the fact that there was limited creativity put into the game, but the people that play it. Granted, even new MMORPG's are doomed to this fate sooner or later, I prefer at this point to try something new.

I quit recently also... 72SAM.

The lack of intrest in anything that's not leveling, farming is pathetic. I've been sitting on rank 9 for nearly a month now, none of the rank 9's have done 9-1. The Promyvions were really enjoyable, i did this with friends, our PT line up was:
BLM,BLM,RNG,RNG,WHM,PLD - we owned every boss and monster without much problems =) I agree there's a sort of pre-set PT for the promy's, but that's just so there's no problems.

Well, good luck with whatever you choose.

I'm kinda happy that there is no "oh I'm sorry to hear that" or anything similar. I posted this because people have automatically started to assume that people are leaving this game because of false reasons.

Sure, people will leave because they are not good at this game, or think it is to difficult, or they just don't like it. But that isn't always the case even though it is assumed. People will leave this game due to intimidation from people that set higher standards then what a typical player can meet, and also by flamming a job class to the point where they won't get invites even in valkurm.

In this game people want change, but do nothing to make the change happen. At this rate, eventually FFXI will be comprised of two sets of people. The Elite uber super omfg I smack you and you die player, and the I can't buy this item for 5 gil, I'm going to go cry to SE for hours and plaster needless nonsense all over every FFXI board I can find player.

I hope that when people see they are the reasons people are leaving that there is even a small chance they may realize that without us, the game is doomed to end.

Note: All this does not mean I blame everyone in the game. I do not. I blame anyone that has ever been an *** to someone for no reason, has jacked up prices out of greed, or is just your average party leader that only invites the absolute best, one flaw your out.

Hey Scuzz. I know how you feel. I am in middle of a break myself. Haven't played in 3 weeks. I have been playing another game (won't metion it either). It has been a nice change of pace, but I keep finding myself thinking I wish it had this or that like FF. And I have to say the people are not as even close to as nice as the people I left at "home". I love FF. I am comeing back. Here are my pro's and con's

Pro.
NO major crying about other classes
I love feeling like part of a team, and FF is all about it.
The game is beutiful and very bug free.
I am a major FF fan and always will be.

Con
I play very late so getting a party is very hard (as scuzz will agree since we ended up together stareing at walls a lot)
I love my LS but I don't play enough to get any important missons or quests done. I mean im been playing since PC NA relese and am still Rank 5 >< Forget about ZM or Prommys ever happening.
I can not get a static due to my crazy schedule (12hr long Grave shifts yay...)
Money is starting to be a big problem. I don't need another "job" thank you. I really belive we need more quests for good equip that can be taken care of solo or duo. Not NM's that are gonna be camped like crazy. Give me something that will take a few hours that I can do without begging for people to help that is R/EX. I love my AF. But I had to pull every string and used up every favor to my now high level friends to get it done.

Well scuzz take your break. And then come back and find the love that I hope I am gonna find. ^^

Sorry for this long post, but please bear with me.

You bring up a good point with this. Many times I have gotten frustrated with certain things in the game, but I wont list them because its the same basic stuff that everyone dislikes. I have even gone away from the game for periods of time. In fact, I'm in the middle of one of those vacations right now. However, I keep coming back. Why? Because no matter how many retards are there, or how much people try to ***** us over, I still enjoy playing the game with my friends. All of my IRL friends have moved to other games, but I stay because FFXI just never really gets boring for me. Sure, there are times when I feel like giving up, and when I'm bored out of my mind. But the next time I get on, I feel as though new adventures await me. The great thing about this game is that there is always something new that you can do. And yes, you are right about repetition in the game. But the fact that each time you are experiencing these things with different people makes it different from all the other times you've done it (unless youre in a static =P). My point here is that even though the game has its downsides, it continues to be one of my favorite games because of the people I play it with.

I agree to an extent.

The "elite" players with the 15 million in gear that demean other players are azzholes. We face those in life as we do in the game. There is one big difference /blist add ******* (wish I could do this in real life).

Actually I would not recommend the above because you may need to party with that person again, unfortunately.

Many of our ******* in this game come from our own drive to be higher, to have the best, to be the best. That is why the prices on the AH are so high...people will pay. We all want to do the most damage, or take the hit with the least damage.

This game is very entertaining. You can always find something new to do (or I can, I don't know about the lvl 75's).

When the Proms came out I read the posts that said Blm was not much use. I paid attention to the BCNM's that said Rng rocks. Then I went and started leveling Rng. Little did I pay attention to the fact that first I had to level War, then Nin, just to have a good Rng. It has been a ***** and my Blm has suffered. But it was cool. Now I can be a mage or a melee. I can switch jobs, Rng, Nin, War, Blm, Whm, Smn, just for some different entertainment.

98% of the people I have met in this game are cool. Don't let the other 2 % get you down.

If you are unhappy with what is going on with your job, at your level, then change for a while.

In my opinion the escallation in prices and the eliteist's will always be a part of this game. We all want to be the best at our job. Some people can just be good and humble and other can't. But most of us strive to have the best and be the best. That is why SE can't change the economy through taxes without losing more players that they will help.

I don't have any experience with other MMORPG but I have to say that FFXI really rocks. I too wish it was not as much work (farming, crafting, etc.) as it is but that is a facet of the game I will probably appreciate more when my alchemy is lvl 100 and my Ranger is 75.
