Whoohoo ^^

Thanks go out to Trod, Amyalfrodo, Rasta, Judus, Devos, Xaiyara, Philithus, and Ikebukuro for assisting with all that dreadful carp collecting, be it from the AH or from Knightwell. God only knows how much more insane I would have become without your help.

Now... Rasta... hurry up and get your *** to 75 Woodworking or whatever it is, so I can go ferry fishing. XD

Congratz!

BTW, you only need to be 73 woodworking to repair a lu, and I'm 74.5, so anytime you break your rod, let me know. I have been on a few ferry rides with someone trying to break their lu, and it's rather hard.

Ahh yes, I forgot you had the skill too. I'll look you up the next time I try ferry fishing. What bait should I be using, sliced bluetail? I'm looking for fishing skillups myself, and maybe some profit if that's feasible at my level (56)... :P

Went to SSG for my first trial run, I caught nearly 70k worth of nebimonites/grimmonites in less than an hour, and I would have gone faster if I was level 59+ and knew about how fished up mobs check to me so I didn't reel them in, and therefore didn't have to bother with Sneak...

Thanks guys! I just dinged 57 fishing a while ago in SSG, after being at 56 for nearly an eternity.

Xai, if you ever need any help or advice with fishing, I'd be more than happy to do/share what I can.

To anyone else working on the quest... the rod is worth it. Don't give up ^^

Oh, I'm never touching moat carps again unless it's to help someone else get their Lu. Can ya blame me? :O

I have seen the light that is Sea Serpent Grotto... and it is good. Quite good. Already made back nearly 250k of what I spent on carp, and it's just been 2 days, neither of which I stayed fishing for a very long time. Will be even better when I'm 59 (or 60, so I can wear my fancy RDM AF hat while I'm fishing XD)

Congrats on your rod. I'm just starting out fishing and it's driving me insane. I've spent a month getting to lvl 3 ><. Although I don't fish everyday, I find sklling up an incredibly arduous task. Even though I'm kinda riding the Bastore sardine gravy-train and putting HQ Courier Carries at the AH left and right. ^^ Still, I can't imagine having to obtain 10k carps. /cheer on having your hard work pay off

With regards to how I went about doing the actual quest...

I started the quest a way long time ago, probably around 7 months or so back, and kinda dabbled in it here and there, up until around 1 month ago. I had turned in nearly 2200 moats in that time, nearly all of them were fished by me.

At this point nearly 1 month ago, my most recent gardening crop had finished, and I noticed my gil totaled 1.7 million. That was when I decided "***** this crap, I'm getting this quest done >_<"

So, I started buying all the moat carps I could find on the AHs, in addition to attempting to try to fish at least 100-120 moaties a day (the limit per day is 200 I believe, but I noticed that after around 100 moaties or so you started hooking way less fish and way more rusties/mobs). In doing this, I finished the 7800 or so carp I needed in about 2 weeks of constant work. I suppose that all in all I fished approximately 3000 moaties and bought the rest. The buying of 7000 carp set me back around 1.4 million.

Given that the rod is valued at what... 3.5 million?... and that I've already made over 800k back with the rod in less than a week of owning it (it would be more if it weren't for school!)... I'd say it was well worth the effort it took!

All in all, I'd say if you have the ability to finance the rest of the moats you need without completely breaking yourself, go for it. It's a lot more fun to burn the gil and get the money back with the Lu, than it is to slowly and painfully save up for it over time.

Yeah, I don't remember the 30s being much fun myself.

I might recommend trying La Theine Plateau (in the southeast corner of the map there's 2 lakes, you want the one that's at a lower "altitude"), using a carbon rod and insect paste. The paste will either catch moat carp, or dark bass... the moat carp can go toward some pocket gil or Lu Shang credit, the dark bass will provide skillup, up to level 37 I think.

Keep in mind I did this prior to the fishing update... I couldn't guarantee that this place would still suit your needs.

No clue. Ask Gitaru. XD

Skilling up in the 30s went quite quickly.

30-33 Frog lure in the pond in West Saru. Catch giant catfish and dark bass until 31. At 31 escape on the !!!s and only pull in the dark bass until 33

33-35 Sinking minnow on the cliffs of the Sarus. Pull in ogre eels, gold lobster and the occasional bream.

35-37 Fly lure in Carpenter's landing just outside the WW guild in San d'oria. Shining trout and only shining trout for 2 levels.

37-39 Shrimp lure in Qufim. Looking for nosteau herring to skill you up here. You'll also pull in tiger cods which sold fairly well at the AH and the odd black sole .

39-40 Worm lure in Kazham. Coral butterfly will take you to 40.Escape on !!!s which are arrowwood logs which will snap your line. Stand right by the pineapple seller so you can dump these non-stacking fish without even turning around.

All of these spots I used lures and a comp rod exclusively. Some people are afraid of losing lures while skilling up but so far I've only lost 1 lure on a "good feeling" message, and always escape on a bad or worse message.
