What would you do to change this game?Follow

#1 Apr 15 2005 at 8:50 AM Rating: Decent
I was thinking about this last night, and I am curious as to what all you guys would change to make this game better? What I would change is a laundry list of big and small thing,s but I will only post the major ones, hopefully I won't **** off too many people. In no particular order:

1) Better checking systems for solo and parties. By that I mean in a party, the mob should con to the average of the party. I was in a party the other night where I wasn't the highest level, but was the puller. So of course what cons IT to me, was VT to out Tank. The Rdm got severly pissed that we were only getting 170+ exp. Maybe it's just me, but as long as my exp is going UP, I don't seem to mind that much.

2) No more NMs. Here is where everyone will jump all over me. I think EVERY NM(sans BCNM, KSNM) should be gotten rid of. THe "rare drops" that everyone camps for, should drop off of regular mobs, instead of 1 mob every 2-3 hours. Example, the Emperor is a Damselfly in Valkurm, so it should be gone, and all Damselflies should have like a 1% drop rate of the hairpin. Since there is an abundance of flies, eventually everyone would have a hairpin(or boots, or peacock charm, etc) and some of this gil selling would stop.

3) This is another thing that will get me bagged on, but my idea on this can go 1 of 3 ways:
a> This game should have been released at the same time on all systems. Being that it was released in JP a while before NA, the JPs had time to get all their crafts up, and they were price setters. It was them who decided that Leaping Boots should be 250k(thats what they were when I started last March).
b> Segregated servers. Would we really have a problem with Chinese Gil Sellers if Chinese had their own servers? I will be the first to admit, some of the BEST parties I have been in were JP, but I would gladly sacrifice that to get prices of things back down to what they used to be, and get rid of these CGFs. Nothing beats seeing Maviont, Araubaud, etc. in Valkurm, then 30 minutes later, seeing them in S. Gustaberg.
c> This is another one that would **** people off. Either abolish the PC version, or give them their own servers. Why? Simple, you can't create a voking bot on a PS2 version. Bots are, to my knowledge, strictly PC. Correct me if I am wrong.

4) Here is a lovely idea. Anyone play Final Fantasy VIII? You got a salary based on your SeeD rank. Why in the hell are we not getting a weekly salary from our Government that we are doing missions for? Hell, base it on Rank, like a Rank 10 could get 100k a week, and a Rank 1 could get 10k per week.

5) Don't like idea #3? Here is the solution. Stricter GMs. Let's face it, these guys are douchebags. I have so many theories about these tools it isnt even funny. Regardless here is my idea: In dealing with Bots, CGFs whatever, a "no tolerance" rule. All these people can't be proven on a whim, but if enough Players called a GM on one player(Maviont), then his account should get flagged. Being that they can oversee transactions, chat logs, etc. a flagged account should be watched a bit closer. If they see large amounts of gil transferred from these players(using term loosely) that isn't from the AH, then BAM, perma ban on the spot. If some tool is voking a mob for 5 minutes without attacking, then that should be all the proof you need.

6) Dragons should only be allowed out in battle.

7) You should be able to use either your job's, or your subjob's 2 hour. Wouldn't that be nice?

8) Even Too Weak mobs should give you at least 1 exp. That would be more incentive to farm the materials you need, knowing that if you kill 10,000 crawlers, you could level up and make your money. That would really help out on those days when partying at your level isnt happening.

9) Headset support only in Party chat. Since **** is moving very fast anyways, this would be a good idea. Unless you get some know it all tool that just wants to spout out how great he is, then you can turn your headset off and go back to typing.

10) No multiple characters. I know people have their mules(I even have one), but that should be abolished. Bots, Gil sellers, etc. You know they have multiple mules, and thats how they hoard all their cash, so mules should be gotten rid of.

Many of my ideas will prolly upset you if you are 75 THF who sees NM hunting as what gets your rocks off. Just another peeve I have is seeing someone level 75 in AF2(by Af2 I don't mean the 2nd piece of your Artifact gear, I mean the full set of AF from Dynamis) hunting a low level hgih profit NM. I am going to tell you this: You don't need the money. Say what you will about taking another job, to get into Dynamis you need over a million gil. So you were obviously not strapped for cash. Personally, I don't see the need in still playing the game. When I get my Ranger to 75, and I get Rank 10, that means there is no more story, and nothing else to do. I knew I was going the Ranger route long befroe I got this game, so it's all I wanted to do. I have absolutely no desire to try a Mage job, or level a Dragoon up to 75. I swear, Aces is cool, but my god I don't think he has a job thats "under" level 50.

1) The level dependant system in this game is completely ****** up. If you're lower leveled in OTHER rpgs, you get MORE experience than the rest of the party. in this game, you get LESS, which only furthers the level gap, and that's ********* I believe you should get MORE experience if you're lower leveled so the gap will close, and I also think the level gap should be expanded. At higher levels, the number of players of the same level gets slimmer and slimmer, a higher level gap at higher levels should be implimented, OR level-cap areas can be introduced so that anyone of any level can group together and XP after, say, lv60. Promyvion is nice, but too dificult.

2) I think the best way to fix the NM system is to set the respawn rate to the same as normal mobs. The drop rate is already just plain wrong, but adding insult to injury you end up waiting HOURS for your next shot.

3) A little too late, but a fantastic idea. And you're right, the vast majority bots and gilsellers are using the PC version as it is cheaper to maintain and operate in large numbers, and easier to hack and run bots.

4) Nah, any economist will tell you this only creates higher inflation. And unless NPC's start selling USEFUL items, this will always be a problem.

5) The GM's do suck. But they do in fact flag players. After a certain amount of flags they moniter the player, and if they witness a breakage of the rules they're warned, then if repeated acts are discovered banned, usually for a month.

6) huh?

7) Not bad. As a RDM I find chainspells practical implications in an XP environment extremely limited, and having benediction or manafont would be a great asset.

8) Love the idea ^^

9) Headset? {No thanks.} As a dial-up user that would completely ***** me over. I'm glad all you guys have swapped to broadband and all, but some of us don't have that luxury right now.

10) As a packrat I MUST have multiple mules XD

Okay, here are some of my ideas:
1) The ability to swim: Why can't anyone swim? It would add a whole new dimension to the game, just think: Underwater dungeons!

2) Ability to have effecient parties of fewer players: It'd be so much easier if all you needed was 3 or 4 people to XP.

3) More solo ability. No job can solo efficiently. BST can solo, but its painfully slow if you're used to an XP party environment. I think in XP parties you should get an XP bonus, but you could also solo for reasonable XP.

4) FUN ways to make gil. Every final fantasy game has minigames to win items or gil but this one. Not one at all. I wanna see minigames where you can get gil just as effectively as farming. Also, they'd be fantastic ways to kill time while LFP

most of these ideas won't work without pissing off half the people in the game to quit, but you probably already know that.
Most of the ideas are good but some I do not like.
For starters you cannot change an item system like nm's at this point only add on new ones since people will get angry that the item they just spent hours getting easily obtained off easier mobs. A salary per week won't work unless you are forced to do missions just getting handed 100k per week will only add to the inflation. Now Im not sure how FF8's system worked(?) since I was not a big fan of it. Using 2 jobs 2 hours could be DEADLY so yeah I do not support that idea (just think about a high level blm/rdm spamming out an unlimmited amount of high level spells0). Trying to get people to farm more will only encourage people to kill more exp mobs imagine every time you try to level solo or pt there is a level 70 running around using AOE on all mobs. Removing all mules would suck since Some people use ther mules to level up more than one craft to 100 and Im more than certain someone with maxed out goldsmithing is just gonna delete his account.
The rest of your Ideas are pretty good though and I would like to see them happen in ffxi.

I believe the OP meant for the 2hr's to be used on an either/or basis. In other words, only once could be used at a time, as the 2 hour recast would effect both.

For example, a BLM/RDM would have Manafont and Chainspell. If he used Manafont, as normal Manafont would activate and would take another 2 hours to use, but Chainspell would become unusuable for the same duration. The BLM/RDM could use Manafont or Chainspell, but not both at the same time.

Right, just one or the other, like a RNG/Nin, could either use Eagle Eye Shot, OR suicide, not use them both.

You know, I honestly enjoy the game the way it is, so I won't add any new ideas.

I do want to share my opinion on others ideas.

Crimson..

I like the idea of having it released to everyone at the same time. It's a little late now, but it would have been nice. On the other hand, even new expansions are given to JP a couple of days first. Why?

As for the serperate servers.. I disagree. I have made many friends who play on different platforms, and different countries, and I don't think the game would be the same without these people in it. Good or bad.

Salary. It would be a nice idea, but SE is working to get money out of the game. This would only add money to it. Also, while it's not a salary, you do get rewarded for doing missions and quests.

GM's could use more power to deal with things like bots, gil-sellers, MPK'ers (often the gil-sellers), rather than just tell us "I'll look into it", and then do nothing. On the down side, if they were able to suspend/ban people without hard proof, anyone could accuse someone else of these things just because they didn't like them, and have them banned.

Headset. I love it! I've always wished we had headset support, but knew that there would be entirely too much talk to support it. The idea of party-only is nice though.

Multiple characters. Mules aside. This would aslo be a problem for anyone who has 1 game, but multiple people use it. They would have to get a game (and for ps2 users, a system) for each person playing. Too much.

Vayne

I see your point with the leveling system, and while I don't have a fix, I'd like to offer a view that perhaps is from SE's side. While the higher level player get's more XP per kill in a party, it also takes more XP for them to reach the next level. I think the idea is that given two players, 1 level 30, 1 level 29, in a party, both at 0 for their current level (need max xp to level), the 30 will get slightly more xp per kill, but both characters would level at approximately the same time, as the 29 has less TNL.

Fewer member parties. These work, you just have to adjust what you are fighting, how you fight it, and have a group willing to do it. Getting players out of the "cookie-cutter mindest is the issue, not being able to do it.

Some sort of more solo-friendly play would be nice for those that would want to. I enjoy the party dynamic, so it's not an issue for me.

Mini-games.. all I can say is... ooooo, shinyz!!!11!!

Oh yeah, I didn't even think of that ^^;. It'd be interesting to know how well SE managed to pace XP gains to varying levels within a party.

I haven't done any hard research, but just what I've noticed from parties I've been in. I'll give you an example.

I was with my static on one particular evening. The WHM was lvl 20, and I was lvl 22, but had only a few hundered tnl. She also had only about 450 tnl. She leveled 2 fights after me. The next round of leveling, she again leveled 2 fights after me. I have noticed this same type of thing in other instances as well.

So, while I can't give hard facts that there is an exact percentage for the xp we receive, just in general observation, it seems pretty close. At least at the pre-50 levels. I was unsure about the post-50 levels to begin with, and even more so now that things are changing.
#10 Apr 15 2005 at 12:28 PM Rating: Good
well how bout that o.O

Still, Vayne demands more XP!

Err, to go back on topic, another thing I'd like changed is the ability to have custom colored wyverns. It shouldn't be too hard to impliment, and lots of DRG's would love to be able to more diversify themselves from eachother.

I want an orange Mikan (get it? XD)

As for XP, it would be nice if we got one amount for soloing and one for partying. What I mean by that is I have soloed things that are "easy" to me and I almost die from them and I walk away from the fight left battered and bruised and a whopping 15-25 XP. The check it feature truly needs to be upgraded, nothing that says it as easy should almost kill a person, and if it does beat you up then you should get more XP for it regardless what it is to you. Now when in a party and facing something that is easy prey it truly is for six people, not one.
As for the wyvern changes that would be awesome another good change to the wyvern I think would be able to buff your wyvern or take aways bad stasis ie.. poison, paralyze, curse etc.

Oh yeah! You really should be able to buff pets, wyverns already have it tough enough, poor little guys :(

Though, you can cure wyverns of status ailments using Spirit Link.
#15 Apr 15 2005 at 2:24 PM Rating: Decent
true, you can but if your wyvern is only poisoned or something like that and you spirit link it it hurts you as well. idk I think it would just make life easier since you can only link them every three minutes.
#16 Apr 15 2005 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
*shrugs*

Oh well, I haven't played DRG enough to know how annyong status ailments on wyverns are.

1. Less time between Spirit Link for DRGs. I don't know if you guys get an upgrade on that job trait as you gain levels... or maybe they could even put a reduce timer for Spirit Link in the merit point system.

2. Ability to use merit points to increase the job trait Magic Atk. Bonus for BLMs.

3. A new job ability or job trait for BRDs. /comfort

4. Increase the drop rates on Ancient Papyrus. @#$(*&#$ >_<

Can't really think of anything else at the moment...
