I got sent an invite for Holla yesterday actually, and they did really make these much easier. We got to the boss with just 2 parties, not 3.
My LS has done a whole ton of Promyvion runs in the last 3 or 4 days. It's easy enough now that the whole thing is actually MUCH easier to do with only one party instead of an alliance. The few times we've failed, it was always in an alliance.
You no longer need an alliance to get past the Memory Receptacles. It's actually safe to melee the Receptacles now, if you use the trick of aligning yourself with the pillars to avoid the knock-back effect. Even our WHM usually melees the receptacles now. Have a RNG take out the Strays while the party rests up for the fight. Once the Strays are gone, have the melee run up to the MR and attack, while a RNG or other distance attacker stands back and takes out any new Strays that spawn. The MR dies in no time.
An Alliance really isn't needed on the first two floors. A single party can kill anything with little trouble. The third floor things get a little more difficult, but a prepared party can easily fight one or two mobs at a time if they must. By the fourth floor, links become a serious issue as most of the mobs become IT, but a single party can easily take out single enemies with little problems. My Promyvion-Holla party last night also took our Cerebrator, the new NM on the third floor with little trouble. It was a tough battle, and we ended with no MP and used a few items that we were saving for the boss, but at no point was anyone in any real danger of getting killed.
Going with a single party makes the whole thing much easier, since you still have more than enough power to kill anything that is in your way, and you have much less risk of drawing aggro when you want to avoid something. Every time I've gone up with more than 6 people, someone ALWAYS draws aggro on the third or fourth floors, and fighting two or three mobs on the fourth floor can be dangerous, even for an alliance. It also seems that many people feel overconfident in an alliance, and start to rush through things, or make stupid mistakes. Just take a solid party of 6, take your time getting to the top and move carefully.
The easiest trip up I've had so far was actually a party of only 4 people. We had a WAR/NIN, THF/NIN, RNG/NIN and WHM/BLM. We were just exploring, farming, and trying to get a feel for how hard things were after the patch. Before we knew it, we were at the Spire. We didn't dare try the boss with only 4 people and no items, but the trip up was a joke.
Also, if you are planning to go on a Promyvion run, take a few minutes before you start your run and kill the Easy Preys and Decent Challenges on the first floor to get some Recollections. One or two people can easily kill the first floor mobs for their drops. Take the recollections to Jeuno and get some Anima. It only costs 2000 gil per Anima, and it makes the boss battle so much easier if even just one or two people have a couple anima.
