Sile's Sight
|
DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different This is a unique quest that I chanced on by tagging Oran as a 27 Ranger. Two important differences from other quests: you can't kill anything, and both your journal and most of the characters WILL NOT prompt you with the correct [key words]; you have to remember what you were told and then fake it. There is a LOT of running around, but a good reward. Here's how it played out when I did it; your mileage may vary. 1. Oran O'Braonain is the Celt standing by the window inside the stone building in Connla. When tagged, he says something about a possible [treasure] project, but he isn't a good judge of character. He wants you to run up to Sile O'Dubhan in Ardagh to see if she thinks you're trustworthy. 2. As the note in your quest log says, Sile is standing in a little depression beside the water, about due E of the round wooden building. For a Celt she's hard to see. Sile is blind. Talk to her and she approves of your niceness and sends you back to Oran. 3. When you get back to Oran, tell him that Sile says you have a [pure heart]. Oran tells you that Sile might be cured if the Empyreans will intervene. He then sends you to take a note to Ardghal Corcoran in Tir na mBeo. 4. Ardghal is the Lurk dancing on the table in the stone inn. Give him the note, and he tells you a long and interesting history about how the Elves and Lurk's abandoned the Firbolgs and went behind the veil, only to be forced to return. When they returned, they found that, while they were out, not only had the Firbolgs become magic, but so had the Celts that had moved in, and also that some new creatures, the Empyreans, had appeared. The Empyreans seem to be made entirely of the unique natural magic that powers the Celts and Firbolgs. They have refused to have any dealings with Fagan or with any Hibernian, and will not intervene for or against any of them. Eventually Ardghal gives you a package to take to the Empyrean Keeper Rasa in Bri Leith to see if you can bargain for a salve to heal Sile. He warns you to be nice, because Fagan is trying to win their trust. 5. Both Ardghal and your journal say that Keeper Rasa is near Caille. Yeah, like Seattle is near San Francisco. Fortunately, I knew about where to look. She's in a little village of Empyreans in a pocket valley far to the NE of Caille, at ( 51,220 , 14,410 ) . I don't know whether you can get bad faction with the Empyreans, but if you have this will be a long stealthy walk, since the hills are filled with them. The easiest way to get there is probably to take a horse to Drum Cain, hop off just when you see the fort, and strike out due East. Keeper Rasa is in the stone hut with the light on. She is surprised that you would bother her and requires you to pass several tests to see if you're worthy. The first thing she wants is a perfect glass orb from an Empyrean Wisp. 6. As your journal suggests, you need to do this non-violently. I struck off SW toward Caille (also seen at loc=33, 14 Valley of Bri Leith.) and right clicked the first wisp I found; when it faced me, I asked "May I have a perfect glass orb?" and one popped into my inventory. 7. Keeper Rasa, when given the orb, expressed further surprise and said she also needed a bag of moss from a moss sheerie and a bunch of poppies from a primrose. 8 Back to Caille. The moss sheerie gave me a dirty look but was gray and didn't attack; when I asked for a bag of moss it appeared in my inventory. The primrose went off into a spiel about the joy of wandering the hills picking wildflowers and ends up asking what I wanted. Neither she nor your journal will remind you that you want [poppies], but again she gives them to you when asked. 9. Back to Keeper Rasa, who chats briefly and gives you the Salve of the Eagle Eye. The journal says to take it back to Ardghal. 10. Run to Drum Cain and take a horse to TnmB. Ardghal doesn't talk until you give him the Salve. He then gives the Salve back to you and tells you to give it to Sile and tell her about her [sight]. 11. Back to Sile in Ardagh. This part of the quest may be buggy; I said something about [sight] to her before I gave her the Salve, and she was healed – she wouldn't take the Salve after that, but she thanked me and gave me a pot of enamel that some fool had given to a blind person. Not much of a payback for all that work, but she casually mentions that you might want to swing by Oran again. 12. Back to Oran in Connla, who basically ignores you until you say "Sile"s blindness has been cured." At this point he transforms into the Empyrean Keeper Oran, and relates how Rasa cursed him for intervening when he saw Sile wandering blindly through Bri Leith. He thanks you and gives you 3 gold and change and some exp. Even better, however, is the fact that the Sword of the Keeper has appeared in your inventory. Reward: |
