Destiny of Velious is scheduled for release on February 22, 2011.
Announced at the 2010 SOE Fan Faire, the 7th expansion for EverQuest II takes place in the fabled continent of Velious.
Once thought lost in the cataclysms of the past, the ultimate fate of Velious had long been a mystery to the scholars and explorers of Norrath. Recently, however, the mighty creature known as Lodizal appeared in the Sinking Sands, with offers to transport the adventurers of Norrath to the frozen continent, under the direction of the ocean god Prexus himself. Adventurers must travel to the rediscovered land, embarking on an epic adventure while exploring places and facing enemies spoken about in legend. Only the mightiest of adventurers will prevail in this hostile and perilous land, as they make their way to challenge what could be the greatest threat Norrath has ever known. [1]
PATCH NOTES: See GU59 for the full patch notes for this game update and expansion.
Players who are traveling to the rediscovered continent of Velious must first speak to Stissa, Emissary of the Speaker at -1504,-214,-386 on the dock in The Sinking Sands. She will permit your transportation to the Great Divide upon Lodizal, the blessed turtle of Prexus.
Once you are in the Great Divide, adventurers will be welcomed by the othmir of Fina's Retreat, who will guide them to begin their way through the Great Divide Quest Series. Crafters will be called upon by the Far Seas Supply Division to begin the Destiny of Velious Tradeskill Quests.
Those players excited to take flight will be interested in seeking out the Goahmari Village to begin their way through the Flying Mount Quest Series.
City tasks and other quests can be found in the Coldain city of Thurgadin. See: Destiny of Velious City Tasks
It's important to note that Velious has no regular resource nodes, and therefore no regular harvesting. There are four specialty nodes in Velious to provide special resources for Velious crafting: two fishing nodes and two nodes only found in the highest reaches of Great Divide. These require a 400 in your harvesting skills.
Along with our Flying Mount videos, we also have two other sneak peeks of Velious!

The latest addition to the monumental MMORPG franchise, EverQuest® II Destiny of Velious presents an unmatched all-in-one compilation pack loaded with the groundbreaking EQII base game, seven thrilling expansions and three exciting adventure packs. New and veteran players are transported to the legendary Great Wastes of Velious, where towering dungeons, dangerous beasts and epic storylines provide the ultimate MMO experience. EverQuest II Destiny of Velious launches its adventures into the sky delivering impressive new features and gameplay, including flying mounts. Following the events of Sentinel's Fate, the twin Swords of Destiny, Soulfire and the Qeynos Claymore, have been drained of their powers, setting the stage for the destruction of the EverQuest universe. The prophecy known as Age's End begins to unfold in the legendary continent of Velious and it is here where the war for Norrath will arise. For there to be any chance to save Norrath, the Swords of Destiny must be restored. Norrath's guardians who undertake this burden will be tested by labyrinthine dungeons, the harsh Velious tundra and powerful creatures. To succeed would mean ultimate glory. To fail would mean annihilation. [7]
SOE has announced Velious Winter Rewards, where players can quality for six great items over three months. While four of the rewards are being kept under wraps, the February rewards are an Ice Wolf Mount and the "New Freeblood Vampire Race".
EQ2 Live and EQ2X Gold and Platinum accounts in good standing on December 14, 2010 will qualify for the first two items. Meeting the same qualifications on January 17, 2011 will earn you the second set of rewards. The final set of rewards will be awarded to players who met the December and January requirements and order the Destiny of Velious expansion pack by December 31, 2011.
The fine print reads: "EverQuest II Live subscribers and EverQuest II Extended Gold and Platinum members with accounts in good standing are eligible for rewards. If qualified to receive the third and final reward, EverQuest II Destiny of Velious expansion pack must be activated on or before December 31, 2011." [8]
Tiffany "Amnerys" Spence added later that "to the best of my understanding, if someone subscribes and cancels as you described, they should still be eligible for the rewards. You do have to meet the qualification that you received both the Dec and Jan rewards in order to get the Feb rewards though, [...] and purchase the expansion before the end of 2011." [9]
She also added that "you do not have to have pre-ordered the expansion before launch. You only have to meet the stated qualifiers (active subscription in good standing on the stated dates) and purchast the expansion before the end of 2011...not the end of 2010." [10]
