CoS: Arkaadia (2.0) removed this three-part pricing system. Merchant prices are now static. As such, this Guide is no longer relevant.

Pricing in City of Steam is dependent on three things: Base Price, Shop Prices, and Player Sales. These three values appear at the bottom of every merchants interaction UI.

  • Base Price - Internal normal price of any particular item. Each maintains its own base price in its database record.
  • Shop Prices - Any particular merchant at any given time may be gougeing you, dealing fair, or running a sale. Shop Prices is a percentage applied to the Base Price to determine that merchants asking price.
  • Player Sales - Normally, a merchant will offer to buy your stuff from you at 10% of it's value (Base Price). Some merchants may go as low as 5% or as high as 15%.

The shop will also display a restock time. This tells you that in x minutes his inventory will shuffle and he may offer a few items that are above the quality of his normal wares. Shops can also sell out of regular stock.

Note: You can sell at an Alchemer, but generally their Player Sales value is only 5%.
